Productive Tuesday

Alstroemeria

On Tuesday morning, Dancer's pharmacy staff called to let me know that they have received the refill request from the vet's clinic and it will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, did I have enough medication to last until then?  I said yes, I had enough.

Alstroemeria Close Up

Then, it was time to get ready to take the car in for a service.  These services usually take about 4 to 5 hours, depending on how busy they are and what else they find they need to do, other than the basic oil change and checking fluid levels, etc.  They offer you a free ride home from the service center, but, you have to find your way back to pick up the car afterwards, so, I usually go prepared to wait in their waiting lounge.  I took my prayer books and two crochet projects to do while I waited, as well as a bottle of water and a granola bar for brunch.

My appointment was at 11:00 a.m. with a particular service consultant, as they are called.  Usually, if you have an appointment, they take your car in at once.  However, this time, I had to wait almost 30 minutes before the person with whom I had the appointment to come and check the car in.  When he did, I complained a little bit about the delay, because at least five other cars that came in after me were taken in for servicing.  He apologized and said that they've had a new computer system installed and today was the first day they were using it and they are experiencing all kinds of delays.  However, in order to make up for the delay, he will give me a free ride both home and back.  And he noted that on the service order and went with me to the desk where they arrange for the ride services and informed them that I get both a free ride home and a free pick up, when the car was ready.

So, I got a free ride home in a Tesla!  It was the first time I had ridden in one, but, although they are supposed to be self-driving, the driver did keep his hands on the wheel for the most part (he took his hands off the wheel for a very short distance to show me how it worked).

I was happy to wait at home, as it was more comfortable than waiting in the service center's lounge.  I replied to blog comments, watched some videos, crocheted a bit, and cleaned the laundry area.

While I was waiting at home, the general manager at the car service center texted me to say that my car model was in high demand and they would like to purchase it, and to call or reply to the text to discuss the matter.  Well, no, I am not willing to sell my car!  It is my only car and if I sell it, I'd need to buy another car to replace it and I don't want to do that, yet.  So, I ignored the text.

The car service consultant called me around 4:30 p.m. to say that the car was ready and they will arrange for a ride service to pick me up.  I had a short wait, after I reached the service center, but, I didn't mind that.  There is a TV in the waiting lounge and while the volume was turned down low, I was able to watch part of a cooking show that I enjoyed.  While I was waiting, friend S (not neighbor S) called to ask if I was home as she wanted to stop by.  I said I was at the car service center, waiting to pay and pick up my car, but, I should be home in about half an hour.  She said she and her husband will swing by, and if I am not home, they will leave something for me on the door step.

Soon after that, I paid the bill for the car service ($500+) and drove home.  I had just pulled into the garage when friend S and her husband pulled into the driveway!  It was S's husband's birthday and they brought me dinner!  How lovely is that?

Rice and Curries from Friend S

Ghee rice, chicken curry, green beans, sauteed eggplant, and cashew curry (in a bag so that the gravy wouldn't spill).  I gave them a bag of peaches, a bunch of curry leaves. and a few green chilies in return.  I enjoyed the dinner they brought me and there's a little leftover for Wednesday's brunch.

On Tuesday, I was grateful for:

- Being able to get the car serviced
- Getting a free ride both home and back to the service center
- Friends who bless me with dinner
- Being able to share some of the garden produce with them in return
- Phone calls with friends and video chats with daughter

Tuesday's joyful activities included visiting with friend S and her husband for a few minutes and enjoying the dinner they provided.

- Take the car in for the service - DONE
- Dust and vacuum the bedrooms and hallway STARTED
- Bring the trash cans in - DONE
- Tidy the laundry room (one of the Rooms of the Week) - DONE

  1. Your Alstroemeria plant is lovely! I'm glad the car service centre gave you a lift home and collected you again. It's a bit cheeky sending you a text offering to buy your car and I think you did the right thing ignoring the text. Our car is nine years old soon but we won't sell it as it gets so little use and it's not worth the cost of having to replace it. Lucky you having a ride in a Tesla but I don't like the thought of a self-driving car.
How thoughtful of your friend to bring you a meal, it looks delicious.

    1. Thank you, Eileen.
Yes, my car doesn't have that much mileage on it, either, as I don't drive that much, anymore. Even if I agree to sell them my car, the dealers would only give me a fraction of what they'll sell it for! One of my nephews has a Tesla and I wanted to see what it was like.
The meal my friend brought me was delicious. She's a good cook!

  2. Well that was an unexpected bonus to get a free ride in each direction. Your fruit production is certainly ramping up - lots of delicious blueberries! Wonderful that your friend included you in the birthday celebration dinner.

    1. It was an unexpected bonus to have a ride in each direction. The fruit harvest is coming in and I need to find room in my freezer and/or get the canning supplies organized! It was very kind of my friend to include me in the birthday dinner, wasn't it? She makes some delicious food. :)

  3. The slight delay worked out rather well for you in the end. It must have been much more comfortable for you to be waiting at home, rather than in the service centre. And it meant you could relax for a while at least. The ride in the Tesla must have been quite exciting as well.
The curries look delicious and it was kind of your friends to share their meal with you. I'm going to start cooking dinner shortly, but I've been having a bit of a rest this afternoon. I had thought I was coming down with a cold, but I've got Covid. Again. Xx

    1. Yes, the delay worked out in my favor! It was much more comfortable waiting at home, if only because I didn't have to wear a mask (I still wear a mask when I am out and about). I was excited to ride in a Tesla; I would like to experience driving one, one day. :)
The meal was delicious and yes, it was very kind and caring of my friend to share their birthday meal with me.
Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear that you are down with Covid, again! I hope it isn't too severe and you recover soon. Get as much rest as you can.

  4. It looks like you’ll have your to do list done!
I had a ride in a Tesla once and I couldn’t figure out how to open the car door. It was nice that you got to wait at home during your car service.
Tuesday was a travel day. We flew from Denver to LaGuardia Airport. Everything went smoothly after a wonderful trip. The wedding was lovely and we enjoyed spending time with our friends.
Wednesday, I am catching up with chores and laundry, and returning some work phone calls.
Your flower photos are beautiful! ☺️

    1. Welcome back! I'm glad you had a lovely trip and a safe flight home. Yes, for a moment or two, I couldn't figure out how to open the Tesla car doors, either! LOL.
Hope you have a good day, catching up with work and chores, today.

  5. You have such lovely kind friends, Bless. In my country, Aotearoa New Zealand, having our cars warranted for fitness is a must. We get massive fines if we don't do it, but we also get a months grace to get repairs if the car doesn't pass it's test. I always get my car serviced at the same time.

    1. Thank you, Ratnamurti, I do have some lovely friends. :) Over here, too, we need to get what is called smog test to check to make sure the car doesn't exceed emissions standards (usually every two years) before the annual registration can be renewed. The smog check is done at specific smog check stations.

  6. The Alstroemeria is very pretty. I'm not familiar with it, so I looked it up and it looks like it prefers warmer temperatures than we generally get here. The waiting areas for car repairs are usually nice, but not for so many hours. Glad you were able to get a ride home and back.

    1. Thank you, June. These particular alstroemeria are grown from tubers, so maybe they'll grow as summer flowers in your area? Yes, the waiting lounge at the service center is quite comfortable and I have spent a full afternoon, there, at times. But, I was happy to come home to wait, as long as they were willing to give me a free pick up back to the service center. :)

  7. I've yet to ride in aTesla. My car needed two new tyres this week. Necessary, but unexpected expense

    1. Personally, I think it would be more fun to drive a Tesla than to ride in it, as riding in it doesn't feel that much different from riding in any car! Sorry to hear that you needed to get two new tires for your car; those unexpected expenses can really impact us, can't they?

  8. How interesting to have a ride in a Tesla! Your car must be in good shape for the service centre wanting to buy it. How on earth do they think you are going to replace it? Anything as good as yours would probably cost an arm and a leg!
The food gift looks delicious, a nice surprise.

    1. It was fun to ride in a Tesla, but, honestly, it was like riding in any other car! I think it'll be more fun to drive one! My car is almost 10 years old, but, it has very low mileage on it because I don't drive it as much these days; I don't plan to replace it anytime soon!

  9. Oh my - how interesting that you got a ride in a Tesla. Did it feel very luxurious? Was it very comfortable?
Aside from the style of your ride, I'm glad they offered the free to and from ride for your inconvenience. It's much nicer to be at home while you wait.
And friend S had such a treat for you! I know you really like her cooking so that makes it especially nice.
You're doing very well working on your lists this week.

    1. Riding in a Tesla was not much different than riding in any other car, to be quite honest! I think the difference is in the driving of it. But, I enjoyed the novelty of it. :)
Yes, I was very happy to get a ride both home and back.
Friend S did bring me a lovely treat and it was much appreciated. I need to take cooking lessons from her!
Thank you; it was a very productive week, last week. I'm sort of coasting this week! :D
