"Patties" - Pastry Filled with a Spicy Fish Filling and Deep Fried |
Today, I had some of the patties we bought from the restaurant for my breakfast. They look like empanadas, don't they?
In the afternoon, my daughter and I went to the mall to do some shopping. She wanted to get birthday gifts for two of her friends, I wanted to get a birthday gift for a friend's daughter, some chocolates to serve at the almsgiving, and a new handbag for myself, using a gift card that one of my aunts and a cousin had given me for my birthday, last year! My current handbag (also a gift from the same aunt and cousin a couple of years ago) is starting to look old and worn, with the handles and strap starting to tear. We got our shopping done and picked up some hamburgers on our way home for a late lunch.
After we got home, my daughter took a nap. I cleaned my bathroom, read a few blogs, and had a cup of tea.
Later in the evening, we watched the American Music Awards show on TV, ate some of the snacks we bought yesterday, and relaxed. My daughter printed out some canning jar labels for me to put on my jars of jam. She put all new ink cartridges in the printer, but, the printer was not working properly and she could only print out black and white labels. But, that's OK; I can use those labels just as well.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A new handbag to replace the old one
- Getting some of the other shopping done
- Safe driving to the mall and back
- Spending a relaxed evening with my daughter
- Special snacks to enjoy
Today's joyful activity was spending time with my daughter.
Plans for tomorrow include going out to lunch with my half-sister and her husband. I have a jar of jam to give her as a Thanksgiving gift.
How was your Sunday? What are your plans for Monday?
Another day of good food and good company. You and your daughter are having a good Thanksgiving week and it's only just begun.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day, wasn't it? We are both enjoying our week. :)
DeleteIt sounds like you are enjoying good food and excellent company. It's always exciting to get a new handbag. We use them every day.
ReplyDeleteI am, Stephenie. And that was exactly my thinking when I wondered what to get with the gift card. I wanted to get something useful and I use my handbag every day. :)
Deleteyou have had busy and productive days ... good for you-
ReplyDeletedaughter update (I am spreading sadness ... apologies): Daughter 1 continues her treatment and is 'maintaining' still but Daughter 2 received a diagnosis of breast cancer on Friday ... surgery and many more tests will commence asap as she starts her journey up and down those mountains- what a loathsome disease and how I hate it-
my fondest regards to you as always-
Barb
Oh, Barb, no! I am so sorry! (((HUGS))) to both you and Daughter 2 (Daughter 1, too!). I hope it is in early stages and the treatment goes well. Please tell her that I am sending her healing thoughts and well wishes. Please let me know if I can be of any help in any way. You can send me an email at the address that is at the top of my blog: blessmymess55@gmail.com. Please take care of yourself during this stressful time. My best wishes to you and yours.
DeleteVery nice! In Texas, we call those Empinadas.
ReplyDeleteI think they are very similar, if not the same. It makes sense as the Spanish were in Mexico and the Portuguese were in Sri Lanka - they brought some of their cuisine with them and we incorporated their dishes into our cuisine.
DeleteSorry this is Akasha. I didn't realize I was in my daughter's account
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very pleasant day with your daughter.
ReplyDeleteWhat colour is the new handbag and have you added your old one to the decluttered items?
It was a very pleasant and productive day. I enjoy shopping with her.
DeleteThe new handbag is brown, sort of a reddish brown. I will post a picture of it. I haven't transferred my stuff from the old handbag to it, but, once I do, I will add the old one to the decluttered items! I promise! :D
Those patties look like the empanadas they sell here! Delicious and filling.
ReplyDeleteThey are probably the same thing, Bushlady, just known by a different name. The Portuguese first arrived in Sri Lanka in 1505 and introduced their food, religion, and language to Sri Lanka. Some of the surnames in Sri Lanka are of Portuguese origins, several of our words are derived from Portuguese, and so forth.
