More Knitting on Friday

Yes, I watched more of the House hearings, today, and, while I did, I knitted.

Knitted Scarf

I finished knitting this scarf with the novelty yarn I bought, a couple of years ago.  At first, I cast on 7 stitches with US #9 knitting needles and the resulting scarf was too narrow for my liking.  Then, I cast on 12 stitches and this is the result.  It's fluffy on both sides and is more rounded than flat.

Then, I knitted these two hats:

Knitted Hats

I cast on the same number of stitches, but the ribbed one tends to contract and appears narrower.  I started a third hat, but didn't get very far with that one.  These hats are to be donated to the cancer center; I will leave them in the chemo room for anyone who might like one.  I want to make a few more and take them with me when I go in December.

In the afternoon, I went to the pharmacy to pick up two of my medication refills.  Then, I went to the adjoining dollar store and bought a bag of mixed salad ($1) and two small containers of yogurt ($.50 each).  I also bought a 2020 wall calendar, a pocket planner, and two pairs of rubber gloves,

M came by in the evening to do the garden, but, it was getting dark, already, and we decided that he should come to do the garden tomorrow afternoon, instead.  He shared some canna lily rhizomes with me.  Apparently, someone else was getting rid of them!  Yay!  More free plants!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Drama free medication refills at the pharmacy!
- M sharing more plants with me
- My yarn stash
- Being able to watch the hearings on TV
- A working heater

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

Saturday's To Do List:
- Hem two pairs of pants
- Garden with M
- Maybe go to the fabric store

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. When you talk knitting terms...I am so lost. But you have done a fabulous job on the scarf and hats. Very nice. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Oops, sorry, Susie! "Cast on" describes the process of putting the starting stitches on a knitting needle. :) But, thank you!

  2. I have some canna lilies that someone gave me. However, we have to dig them up every fall and replant them in the spring. They are very striking though.

    1. I remember seeing them in some of your garden pictures. We can leave them in the ground. M planted them scattered throughout the garden - one or two in the front, near the climbing rose, and the rest in the backyard. The ones he brought me have red leaves, so the foliage would be quite striking.

    1. Thank you. I used to knit hats when I was having chemo, myself, and used to give them away to anyone who admired them.

  4. The scarf and hats are lovely. Some years ago I was living away from home and bought a couple of kits for making scarves with some very slippery, almost furry yarn and the kits came with a circular needle because regular needles would have made it too easy for the stitches to slip off. The resulting scarves were warm and fuzzy.
Last night I looked out of the window over the yard and was delighted to see shadows of the trees on the snow. It is a favourite sight when the night sky is clear and the moon big enough and bright enough. It would be fun to bundle up and go out walking, but much easier to go back to a warm bed!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I have made scarves with a type of yarn that is similar to what you described. I think they might have been called "eye lash" yarn. I still have one or two balls of that type of yarn, in the stash!

Ooh, you describe a lovely "moonscape"! I would enjoy seeing something like that, but, you won't catch me walking in it! Brr!

  5. I love the scarf, Bless. It looks so cosy. I am tempted to make something similar for myself (even though I could stock a small shop with scarves)!

  6. Your scarf looks so cozy.

Today I wore my neck warmer for the first time. I felt pretty proud to wear something I had crocheted. Heheee

    1. Thank you, Nil. It reminds me a little of a garland!

Yay! You wore your neck warmer! You should definitely feel proud to wear something you made. I hope you received lots of compliments on it, for it is very pretty. :)
