Sewing the Quilt Top on Tuesday

Little Diamonds Quilt Top

Dancer and I are feeling a lot better, today.  He's still sneezing and I am still a bit congested, but, we are on the mend, I think.

I slept in, a bit, brought in the trash cans, checked on the plants in the garden, and went through this week's grocery ads in the morning.

Then, in the afternoon, I sewed the quilt top.  Sewed the diamonds into rows and then, sewed the rows together.  There are six rows of five diamonds per row.  The next step is to buy a solid colored fabric for the borders and figure out a backing.  I think a solid blue or purple will help tie all the colors together, don't you?  The fabric store will have solid colored cotton on sale for $1.99/yard on Thursday.  I will go shopping for fabric on Thursday

Dancer came to do his part and inspected the quilt top:

A Closer Look to see if the Corners Meet!

Later in the evening, I watched some TV and knitted.  I had bought some blue yarn (last year?) to make a sweater, started on the ribbing, and put it aside.  I took it out, today, and started knitting the sweater back.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Dancer and I are feeling better and he was well enough to carry out his inspection duties!
- An afternoon of sewing
- Invitations to Thanksgiving with family and friends
- The sewing machine worked well
- Time to knit and sew

Today's joyful activities were sewing and knitting.

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Water the back garden if it doesn't rain
- Tidy the kitchen
- Tidy the family room
- Start on holiday gifts crafting

How was your Tuesday?  Have you started on your holiday gifts, yet?

  1. I was going to say blue for the edging - but now I think purple might bring out the colours better. I had a baking marathon yesterday and made a Christmas cake, and my puddings. Hoping to do some present making today if I can

    1. My daughter was saying to put a double border of both blue and purple!

You had a very busy day, yesterday, getting all your Christmas cake and puddings done! I haven't made a Christmas cake in years! Not since my mother died, actually. She liked Christmas cake (I do, too), but, my daughter doesn't and it doesn't seem worth the effort to make one just for myself, especially when I shouldn't eat much of it. I think my daughter wants to make a Love cake, again, this year.

  3. The quilt is looking good and I'm so glad Dancer felt well enough to carry out his Quality Control role! It's lovely to hear that you are feeling better too.

Oh, and good luck with the self-control when you go to the fabric shop on Thursday!!

  6. There are enough colors in your quilt that you could use almost any color you wanted to tie it together. Does the person you're making it for have a favorite color? However, I think both blue and purple would be nice choice.

    1. It is a very colorful quilt, isn't it? LOL. I don't know if my friend has a favorite color, but, she wears a lot of blue. But, my daughter suggested I do a double border of both blue and purple. So, I just might do that.

  8. Your quilt is gorgeous. I really like it. Are you pleased with the little diamonds arrangement?

I can't settle on my next knitting project. I keep starting things and ripping them out. I have a crochet project but I also like to have something to knit.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I do like the little diamonds arrangement. It is what I had originally planned, before I went online and saw other arrangements and got a bit carried away! :D

Is the crochet project the Christmas blanket? How is it coming along?

I have multiple knitting projects on-going: there are the hats I want to make to take to the cancer center; there are the red hats for new borns I am making for the American Heart Association, the sweater I just started, and, there's always a scarf waiting to be knitted! The on-going crochet project is the granny squares blanket - I just make granny squares with all the scrap yarn leftover from bigger projects and, one day, I'll make a blanket with them!

  9. I'm amazed at what you achieve. I just know that in next to no time there will be a photo of that blue sweater you have taken up to work on again! The quilt is lovely and Dancer looks as if he approves after all.
So mild here and what a change from a year ago when we had a massive dump of snow that never went away, to kick start the winter.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I had fun making this quilt top. I think the small diamonds setting worked nicely. As for the sweater, well, I'll admit to have finished the back! :D

I'm glad you are getting to enjoy some mild weather before winter starts in earnest!

  11. That is just so very pretty. All that work shows in the beauty of the nearly-finished piece. Yes, I agree on blue or purple for the backing. And your inspector is adorable.

I managed to pick up my first Christmas gifts at the shops last week, but I haven't started on hand making my Christmas cards. If I don't get started soon, I'll be back at the shops looking for cards!

    1. Thank you, Susanne. I really do like how it turned out! I just have to hope that my friend will like it, too. :) Ah, yes, he takes his role as inspector of projects very seriously! LOL.

Yay for having got started on the Christmas gifts! Hope you get the time to make your cards, soon. Every year, I say I am going to make some cards, and, almost every year, I end up buying them! :D I don't even send that many cards, anymore!
