Lunch and Shopping on Monday

New Handbag - Front

Back

This is the new handbag I bought with my gift card, yesterday.  It is a reddish-brown leather bag (the color is described as cabernet).  My requirements were: a shoulder strap, a front pocket, full zipper closure, and roomy enough for all my stuff!  There is a small pocket in the back, too.  Apparently it is known as a hobo style bag.

Today, my daughter and I went out to lunch with my half-sister and her husband.  We went to an Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant.  We had chicken biryani and white rice, chicken korma, lamb pasanda, dal tarka, and garlic naan bread with some mint chutney and tamarind chutney.  For dessert, my sister and her husband had mango kulfi (a type of ice cream) and daughter and I had kheer (a type of rice pudding).  The other choice for dessert was one of my favorites - gulab jamon - which is a ball of deep fried dough that is soaked in a sugar syrup flavored with rose water, but, I didn't order it because it would have been too much sugar for me.  My sister and her husband had mango lassi to drink, but, my daughter and I chose to drink water; daughter, because she doesn't like yogurt, and I, because I wanted to limit the sugar and calories.  In fact, I didn't even finish my dessert of kheer, but, brought the rest home and gave it to my daughter to have after dinner.

I gave my sister a jar of my pineapple guava jam as a gift and she gave gifts to my daughter and to me.  My daughter received a red purse and a tote bag; I received a scarf, a necklace, a small note book, and an embroidered drawstring bag.

Later in the afternoon, my daughter and I went to a different mall to do more shopping!  LOL. She wanted a new planner for 2020, so we went to the crafts supply store where she bought her favorite planner with a 40% off coupon.  I looked around the shop, but, didn't buy anything!  Yay, me! Next, we shopped at a discount store for some clothing items.  I bought three sweaters to give to three of the young ladies on my holiday gift list and something for one of my cousins.  My daughter was able to get some of the leggings she prefers to wear to her acrobatics classes and some gifts for her friends.  She also needed some new socks for herself.  She saw some cute socks she liked that came in three designs and couldn't decide which ones to get.  So, I told her to get all three packages:

Socks - Set 1
Socks - Set 2
Socks - Set 3

LOTS of socks!

Afterwards, we stopped at an outdoors sporting goods store to see if they sold any golf equipment, but they didn't - they sold equipment for camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, etc.  So, I couldn't get the gift card I was planning to get for a cousin's husband, who likes to golf.  There is a different sports store at the other mall; I shall try them, another day.  Finally, daughter went to a video games store (but, I stayed in the car while she looked around).  Then, she bought herself an iced coffee drink from a nearby coffee shop and we came home.

Then, I took the trash cans to the curb for pick up in the morning, had a cup of tea, washed the dishes, and, after resting for a bit, made coconut roti for dinner, using one of the packages of frozen grated coconut I bought at the Sri Lankan store on Saturday.  We had beef curry from the freezer, with the roti (a type of flat bread).

Frozen Grated Coconut

Pol Roti

Today I am grateful for:
- Seeing my sister again
- Enjoying a good lunch in pleasant company
- Spending time with my daughter
- Having loved ones with whom to exchange gifts
- Cousin P offered me a ride to the rosary, tomorrow

Today's joyful activity was going out to lunch with my sister.

Plans for tomorrow include going to cousin V's in the evening to the rosary prayer gathering.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. Another great day with your daughter and family. You get a lot of shopping done when you daughter comes. And you got a great purse on one of those trips.

    1. I do get a lot of shopping done when she's visiting, don't I? We were just talking about that, yesterday! She helps me with my decision making when it comes to buying things. For some reason, I seem to be needing someone to say that it's OK for me to spend money! LOL. Especially, when it comes to spending it on myself! Too many years of being frugal from necessity, I think. I still continue to feel I ought to be frugal even when there is no need to be so!

  2. How lovely that you managed a meal out with your sister. It can be difficult finding time to get together, when you live quite a distance from one another.
I have a feeling your daughter will be OK for socks for a while now ;) and your new bag is gorgeous. That shade will go well with anything. X

    1. I am so glad that we were able to get together for a meal, Jules. I was reminded, yesterday, that time is passing and we are all getting older!

LOL, yes, she's set with socks for awhile! :D Thank you; I like that shade. There was a black one, too, but, I chose this color. :)

  4. I really like your purse, Bless. I like that style too - and the color of your bag is very nice.

All of the food at your lunch with your sister sounds wonderful.
    It makes me hungry lol

    1. Thank you, Debra; I am very pleased with my purse. It's a color that will go with anything, isn't it?

Oops! Sorry, didn't mean to make you feel hungry! :D Do you have any Indian restaurants in your area?

  5. I really like your bag. When I was a student I used to think that once I’ve a job, I’d buy different color bags and shoes. Now whenever I need a bag or a pair of shoes I buy black because black goes with everything. 😄

Now I want some pol roti. LOL

    1. Thank you, Nil. I used to have different colored handbags with shoes to match! Not any more! Now, it's just plain black shoes and a handbag in some shade of brown.

The roti is all gone! We had the leftovers for breakfast. I've promised my daughter that I'll make another batch before she leaves. :)

    1. Oh, I am glad you are having a cup of tea with me, even if it is after the fact, Andrea. I have a cup in the morning and one in the late afternoon/early evening, just so you know. :) Thank you; I went grocery shopping by myself, today, but, will be getting together with family in the evening.

  7. Very smart handbag and it appears to me that it has quality zip fasteners which is what I look for in one.
I'm going to look for some crazy socks for DGD as she loves them too.
How lovely to have a family visit. We ate out on Monday with a friend at a fondue restaurant which was fun. It must be all of 40 years since we used to have fondue when it was all the rage.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Oh, I do hope the zippers are of good quality! I really didn't even think about that - I guess I just assumed they would be!

I'm sure your DGD would love some fun socks!

It was lovely seeing my sister, again. I need to make an effort to get together more frequently with her. We were never all that close due to our age gap and differences in personalities, but, she is the only sister I have!

I'm glad you were able to go out to lunch at a fondue place with a friend. I remember when fondues were popular!

  8. Love the purse! I am glad you had a great time with your sister and of course with your daughter. I would have gotten all three sets of socks! I love the Harry Potter books. I began reading them aloud to Son3 when he was in kindergarten and he and I were at the bookstore at 12 midnight the day of each new books release.

    1. Thank you, Anne. Ha, ha, daughter and I drove downtown to a book store the morning of the release of the last HP book, partly because I knew it wouldn't be crowded (the store was tucked away in an underground shopping mall). That store opened at 8:00 a.m. and we were there, waiting for them to open. She finished reading the book that same day!

  9. That bag looks beautiful, but it also looks, I don't know how to phrase it, comfortable, like it will be nice to have on your shoulder and just right for what you need. I am also in awe that you went to a craft store and didn't buy anything. That is a superpower!

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. The bag is soft and yes, comfortable, too.

Oh, I was tempted at the crafts store! I spent a long time looking in the yarn aisles and scrapbooking section and picked up some card-making items - a pack of 25 card blanks and envelopes for $4.99 - because I used my last card blank, the other day, but, it wasn't on sale and I didn't have a coupon, so, I resisted the temptation. I should use some of my scrapbooking papers to make my own envelopes!
