Mile Long To Do List - Updated

Handyman A has been here for almost 6 hours, today, and I need to update the 2019 Mile Long To Do List:

Mile Long To Do List:
  • Paperwork/File/Shred - On going
  • Call again to have the outside cats spayed/neutered - previous calls didn't result in any action
  • Call for estimates on house repairs (various) - IN PROCESS
  • Check shower hot water flow in bathroom #1 - DONE!
  • Replace ceiling heater unit in bathroom #1*
  • Replace 2 ceiling fans*
  • Replace ceiling light in daughter's closet*
  • Fix under sink cabinet door in bathroom #2  - DONE
  • Get a plumber to fix drainage in bathtub (bathroom #2) - DONE!
  • Replace garage door opener system REPAIRED
  • Replace the side garage door - DONE!
  • Clean out the garage!
  • Clean out the shed (mentioned it to M)
  • Buy paint for the front door
  • Paint front door
  • Declutter - On going
  • Buy new sofa slip covers - IKEA
  • Linen closet door - DONE!
  • Fix sliding glass door - In process - he replaced the wheels, but they are different from the original wheels as, apparently, they don't make the same kind of wheels anymore (this door is at least 20 years old - probably time for a new door!)
  • Install new vertical blinds in family room - (mentioned it to A; need to buy the blinds)
  • Repair water damage/tile border in bathroom #2 (showed it to A)
  • Redo kitchen floor (showed it to A)
  • Recaulk kitchen sink
  • Repair water damage to kitchen ceiling and wall
  • Have the house painted, inside (mentioned it to A)
  • Eventually, install new drapes (maybe after painting)
M referred an electrician he knows; I need to call and arrange for an estimate.  "A" is not an electrician.

I am feeling so happy!  A will come back, another day (he will call when he has time available) to attend to a few of the other things I've mentioned to him.  I am so grateful for what he was able to do for me.  A lot of the major things that have been bothering me have been taken care of.  The rest will get done, too, little by little.

  1. That's fantastic, congratulations. It really is a relief to stay on top of home repairs. It gives us energy.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Something was holding me back, but, when the garage door broke and the monks at the temple referred me to their handyman, I knew the time was right to get things done! The handyman they referred me to is giving me what I am calling the temple discount. I am very grateful. It feels so good to have these repairs done!

  3. So glad to hear you're getting the things ticked off the list. My progress is very stop-start at the moment as my plans keep changing because of other circumstances which are more urgent. But we'll get the jobs all done eventually I hope

    1. Thank you, Angela. Having a good handyman is a blessing! I have been living with half broken things for so long that it was starting to get me down! I hope you, too, will be able to get your jobs done, little by little, circumstances permitting. :)

  4. It's a lovely feeling to get the repairs done and to know you have someone to help with some more of the things on your list, isn't it?

    1. Oh, it is, Eileen! Looking around the house and seeing so many broken things was starting to get me down! Especially after being retired for 1 year - that was the year I was giving myself to get these things attended to. But, I am getting them done, now, and that's what counts! :)

    1. Thank you, Andrea. I've been a very negligent homeowner, doing just the bare minimum or less, but, I have started better care of the house! I'm giving myself another 6 months or so to get it all done, but, once all the repairs are done, I want the inside painted and then, I can think of new drapes and things. :)

  6. Your lists exhaust me, Bless! I always have a lot to do but I think if I wrote all those things down then I'd feel overwhelmed! Usually, towards the end of the week I down a few priorities for the weekend. I also tend to 'schedule' things in and put reminders in my phone for such tasks.

    1. My lists are depressingly long, aren't they? Yes, they overwhelm me, too, and, sometimes, I just don't even know where to start! But, I have a Master List of all the things I want done in each room. The mile-long list is an off shoot of that Master List (it includes such things as new drapes, painting, replacing certain fixtures, etc.) For me, the lists are like a brain dump - if I don't write them down, then, I carry these "things to be done" in my mind and go crazy!

I like your way of doing things, too - especially the scheduling portion of it! That's what I should do, too, I think!

  7. Fabulous!

It's so good that this is all coming together for you, Bless. "A" really checked some things off of that list today. 6 hours of attention is great.

Living in the moment in your house just got a little nicer :)

    Take care
    Debra
