Sunny Friday

We had a sunny day, again.

I kept the alarm for 9:00 a.m., but, turned it off and slept until 10:00 a.m., because I hadn't gone to sleep until after 2:30 a.m.  I was checking my emails and having my tea when cousin P called and came over with some clothes she had decluttered from her closet!  She said she thought I or my daughter might like the items she was culling out: a multi-colored long skirt (which I know my daughter would like), a long sleeved cream colored top (new, with tags, fits me), a black and white 3/4 sleeved top (again, new, with tags, and fits me), and a silvery, glittery cut-away knit cardigan-like thing.

Later in the morning, I called the insurance company and verified that the change of doctors I had requested had been processed, even if it doesn't show up online, yet (it will show up once it goes into effect in June, I was told).  I was also told to continue to use the old insurance card and ignore the one they sent, recently, until I receive the newer card.  I was glad to have that all straightened out.

I considered going out and getting myself a hamburger for lunch, but talked myself into having a salad, instead:

In the afternoon, I sewed a little more on the Mountain Climbing quilt, but, I am not quite happy with how this particular section is turning out.  I am sewing a series of "steps" with grey fabric; I didn't have any matching grey thread and I tried to make do with a lighter colored thread that isn't working out.  I think I need to go to the fabric store to buy some matching grey thread, undo this part, and redo it, with matching thread.

Mis-matched "Steps"

Friend M mowed the grass in the backyard, today (there's nothing much to mow in the front!)  I collected more osteospermum seeds and scattered them in other parts of the yard.  We'll see if any of it comes up in the spring!

In the evening, I watched news and some TV while I did some paperwork and filing.  I also cleaned out another file folder - this time, containing 6 years worth of (paid) utility bills!   From 2013 to 2018.  The file now contains only this current year's utility bills.

Dinner was some leftover steak with mostly starchy vegetables (corn and green peas) and cucumber.

Today's joyful activity was sewing.

Today, I am grateful for:
- New clothes from cousin P
- Having my insurance questions answered
- A sunny day
- M mowing the grass for me
- Getting another file folder cleaned out

Friday's To Do List:
- Call the insurance company again - DONE
- More paperwork/filing - DONE
- Do one decluttering/organizing task in the spare room - DONE
- Do one deep cleaning task - DONE

Saturday's To Do List
- Trip to the fabric store for grey thread
- Play with fabric/sew

I did all the scheduled housework, this week, so there's nothing I need to catch-up on, tomorrow.  I think I will spend the day playing with fabric!

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for Saturday?

  1. What a nice group of new clothes.

I got osteospormum plants one year at the nursery. I had never seen them before and it seems like they're not that common around here. After you told me how easily they self seed, I made sure that I shook a lot of their seeds around when I pulled them up for the year. Nothing came up the next summer. This year I have planted the seeds in peat pots indoors. So far, not one has sprouted. There's still time for that to happen, so I'll wait a while longer before I give up. I'm disappointed because they are so pretty.

    1. Thank you. Receiving new clothes is always fun. :)

I'm sorry your osteospermum seeds are not germinating. I wonder if the winters are too cold? But the seeds you planted in peat pots should germinate. Hopefully, they will. This is, actually, the first year I've gathered the seeds to scatter them around. I've no idea how that will work out!

    1. Thank you! I like free clothes. :) I know that some people object to "hand me downs", but I have no problems with it. This one cousin has been giving some of her clothes to me from the time we were children and she has given her daughter's clothes to my daughter, who, like me, doesn't mind it at all. :)

  4. The new clothes from your cousin are lovely additions to your’s and daughter’s wardrobes.

Well done for doing without the burger and having a healthy salad instead. I know how I struggle with the ‘right’ food related decisions so I’m impressed. Now all you have to do is go to the fabric store and just buy the thread you need and not lots of new fabrics ... good luck ๐Ÿ˜

    1. Thank you, Eileen. New clothes are always welcome and I felt quite virtuous about eating a salad instead of a burger! :D I made a deal with myself - if, after having the salad, I still wanted a burger, then, I could have one.

Yes, I am reminding myself that I am still on a new fabric diet! But, I do plan on looking, however dangerous that might be! If they have baby yarn on sale, I might buy some, because a friend's daughter is expecting a first baby and I'd like to make a new baby blanket.

  5. What beautiful new clothes and I'm sure your daughter will love the colourful skirt. I hope you can find the right shade of grey thread to use on the steps on your quilt.

I was delighted today to see that the Trout Lilies up the road are in bloom, and then I discovered that the Trailing Arbutus in the yard also has flowers. They are tiny but lovely to find, and they are scented. Then I found a wild violet in bloom. Spring is really here!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. New clothes are always welcome. :) Now, I need to find something in my closet to donate, in exchange!

How wonderful to find all those flowers blooming! It certainly sounds like spring has arrived! I've read that Trailing Arbutus is considered to be an ancient plant, dating back to the last Ice Age!

    2. I didn't know that this beautiful little plant had been around so long! Thanks for the information. I shall investigate.

  6. I did audits all day. In between, I went to see a friend who is very depressed, but it ended up his depression is over unrequited love, so he’ll survive. He was getting really negative about life and the world, so I just said I had to go. Tonight I’m going to a religious event which is a pot luck, and bringing cookies.

    1. Sounds like you had a busy day with the audits. I'm sorry your friend is so down about things; not much one can do about unrequited love. I hope you enjoy the event, tonight. Cookies are a good thing to take to a potluck.

  7. Those clothes are beautiful. I really like the colors of the skirt.

A salad is way healthier than a burger. Well done Bless๐Ÿ˜Š

    1. Thank you, Nil. The skirt is very colorful, isn't it? She'll be able to mix and match it with several different blouses.

Yes, I chose the healthier option, but I'm still wanting a burger! :D I'm craving junk food! But, I had another salad for lunch, today, too.

  8. I like your new to you clothes. The shades on the skirt are beautiful.
It must be a relief to have your insurance sorted (again). So frustrating and, not to mention, time consuming for you to sort out. X
