Busy Tuesday

Tuesday morning, I woke up once at 6:30 a.m., which was nice and early, but, since I hadn't gone to sleep until after 3:30 a.m., it was too early!  I went to the bathroom and went back to sleep!  The second time I woke up was at 9:30 a.m., when the phone rang.

I had a relaxed morning, and then, went to my doctor's appointment.  I took a bag of lemons with me and even handed out several to a man who held the elevator door open for me.  The staff at the clinic was happy to receive the lemons.

The doctor's appointment went well.  He was pleased with my blood pressure and latest lab test results, etc.  But, he was still puzzled by the fact that there is still some edema at the surgery site (as well as redness, but we have decided that the redness will always be there, as it is like a burn).  He suspects the swelling is due to my lymph nodes not draining well as a result of the surgery and treatment that followed (also, a few lymph nodes were removed for testing, so I have fewer of them).  He put me back on some medication, a type of diuretic, that he had me on, earlier and I am to return for a follow-up visit in four weeks' time.

After that, I went to the pharmacy to hand in the new prescription, and while they were filling it, I went to the dollar store, next door, and bought a few things - 2 containers of some of the biggest strawberries I have ever seen, 3 bananas, a package of turkey cold cuts, and 4 small containers of yogurt.  Then, I went back to the pharmacy to wait a little longer until my prescription was ready.  I took them a bag of lemons, too, and they were thrilled!

On the way home, I stopped at a grocery store and bought a loaf of bread and 2 bags of cat food.  I spent $5.52 at the dollar store and the bread cost $1.99.  I didn't take a photo of the groceries, today, but my grocery spending came to $5.52 + $1.99 = $7.51.

My April grocery budget is $75 + $27.41 carried over from March = $102.41

Spent to date in April = $1.49 + $21.11 + $36.33 + $29.57 + $7.51 = $96.01
Amount left in the April grocery budget = $102.41 - $96.01 = $6.40

I will be carrying over the $6.40 into May.

By the time I came home, it was past 5:30 p.m. and I was tired (and hungry, too, as I hadn't eaten anything except a granola bar).  I had a sandwich and a cup of tea and watched some TV.  I guess I must have got too tired because I had a rather painful cramp in my lower leg.  I rubbed some Tiger Balm on it and it went away, eventually.  I didn't feel like doing any housework other than bringing in the trash cans and sweeping the bathroom, so I didn't!  I will be home all day, tomorrow, so, I will catch up on my housework, then.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The doctor's appointment went well

  1. I’m glad your appointment went well. A friend still has redness on the radiotherapy site after 10 years so she has accepted that it is permanent and she gets swelling too.

I have a picture of you in my mind with your big bag of lemons, walking around and handing them out to everyone you see 🍋

It’s a bit of a dismal day here so I’m busy cooking up a few meals for the freezer, so far shepherds pie, chilli, and butternut squash soup.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. It's good to know that someone else has the same side effects! I am not complaining; at first, I was worried that it might be a symptom of inflammatory breast cancer, but my cancer markers are good and the doctors have ruled that out (big sigh of relief!).

Ha, ha, that was me, yesterday, handing out lemons to everyone! You were busy in the kitchen! I saw the stack of dishes ready for the freezer! Well done!

  2. I'm glad your doctors appointment went well and I'm also relieved your car is OK. If it's not one worry it's another!
All this talk of lemons has me craving some lemon drizzle cake. I might just have to bake one in time for the weekend. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Yes, it's always something, isn't it? Lemon drizzle cake sounds wonderful! I was watching a cooking show, yesterday, and they showed lemon bars, too. Yum!

  3. Glad the doctor's visit went well! That's always a relief. Those were some good food bargains again. Is that a regular dollar store? Ours doesn't sell any of that stuff! I go once in a while but mainly to buy household items. Hope your Wednesday goes well.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. There is a chain of dollar stores here called the 99Cents Only stores. When they first opened, everything WAS only 99 cents! Now, of course, not everything is 99 cents only, but they still have good deals. They have fresh produce as well as refrigerated and frozen foods. My daughter, too, does most of her weekly grocery shopping at the 99Cents store near her apartment.

  4. I’ve never heard anyone else talking about a roll over grocery budget. It makes sense, since some items on hand can be used up faster than others. I’ve only heard people give a set amount, like, “our grocery budget is X a month.” Yours makes more sense.

    1. Rolling it over works out well for me. :) Occasionally, I go over that month's grocery budget, and when that happens, I just deduct it from the next month's grocery budget. When I have extra to carry over, that goes towards stocking up or a splurge item, or, occasionally, groceries to donate to the food bank.

    2. That’s what I decided to implement for myself. If you think about it, you never run out of everything, so I always had anxiety over choosing a number. I gave you credit for the method. 👍🏼

  6. You are so excellent with your food shopping and budgeting. It sounds like I should check out what they have at the dollar store. How thoughtful of you to bring lemons to all of those people. I am hoping to get an abundant harvest of lemons next year from my Meyer Lemon tree.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Now, if only I can bring those skills over to my diet and exercising, I should do great! :D

If you have a 99Cents Only store in your neighborhood, then do check it out.

That's what I have in my garden, Meyer lemons. I have three trees. There were five of them, at one point, but I cut down two of them and an orange tree when I built the addition.
