My Bundle of Joy |
Happy Mother's Day!
Growing up, we didn't celebrate Mother's Day! We didn't know about it, at that time and place. The first time I heard about a special day called Mother's Day was in 1973, after I had left Sri Lanka.
The picture above is the first photograph taken of my daughter and me, taken just before we left the hospital to come home. My "bundle of joy" who weighed all of 5 lbs.!
The first picture I could find in my baby photo album of my mother and I is this one, taken on my 1st birthday:
My Mother and I |
The next photo in the album that showed me with my mother:
"Out of Reach" |
If One Way Doesn't Work... |
I believe it was my father who was the photographer.
I feel I've been blessed to have had a mother who was so loving and supportive of me in every way and to be a mother, myself, to a daughter who is also as loving and supportive!
Today, I am grateful for:
- My mother, who was my role model and without whom I wouldn't be here
- My daughter, who is definitely my joy in life
- The blessing of being a mother, myself
- The many wonderful women who took care of me and mothered me, in one way or another, even if they didn't give birth to me
- Old photographs!
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful baby photos Bless.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute baby you were!
And your mother looks at you with such love
Debra
Thank you, Debra. :) I visited her grave site, today, and took almost all the roses I could find in the garden; she would have liked that better than any flowers I could have bought.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to you! Beautiful pictures! I love looking at pictures from the past! I am still blessed to have my mom, who is 86. I spent the afternoon with her. I know there will be a time when she's no longer with us, so I want to remember all of the fun times we are able to continue to share. I'm sure you have a heart full of good memories of your mom, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susie Q. I'm glad you were able to spend the afternoon with your mom. My mother was 85 when she died. Yes, a heart full of memories. :)

Thank you, Nil. :) It was a quiet Mother's Day, but, it was good.
DeleteSuch lovely photos. Your mother was beautiful and so are you in your photo with wee baby daughter.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually see our son on Mothers' Day but this year he and DDIL and DGD decided to come up for the day and cook dinner for us. They brought a beautiful planter of flowers for the deck and all the ingredients for a delicious curry! The weather was lovely and we ate lunch on the deck but ate dinner indoors as the temperature was dropping by then. I feel very blessed, as DH bought me some chocolates as well!
Thank you, Bushlady. How wonderful that your son and family visited you and made you dinner! Glad you had nice weather, too.
DeleteSounds like a very good Mother's Day. :)
