Rainy Wednesday

It rained, on and off, today.  There was even some thunder, which is rather unusual for us.  Around 4:30 p.m., however, it stopped raining and we had a little bit of sunshine.

Dancer woke me up, this morning, with that strange sound he makes when he is about to throw up!  Sure enough, he came right next to my bed and threw up his undigested breakfast of kibbles!  He has a tendency to eat very fast and then, he throws up.  Just why he has to do it right next to my bed (or, sometimes, under it) is something I haven't figured out, yet!  At least he didn't throw up on the bed!  I am very thankful for that!

I had a slow start to my day, but I made up for it in the afternoon and evening.  I watered the indoor plants (I only have two, so it takes all of two minutes to do that!  LOL.)  Then, I vacuumed the house, cleaned one bathroom, sorted through the second stack of papers I had put aside to go through, today, and cleared the desk in the spare room:

Cleared Desk Top and Empty Drawers!
There are no "before" pictures, because I was too ashamed to take any!  But, this was how the desk looked just a couple of days ago, after I had already done some clearing:

"During"

I boxed up the old bank files I had stored in those drawers, using two boxes I had saved when some gifts were mailed to me over the holidays.  I will sort through the other drawers another day.  I need to find a better place to store the boxes that are under the desk, but, they can stay there for now.  By the time I cleaned the top of the desk, I was tired.

I decluttered a magazine and another book, today:

Another Book for Donation
I bought this book for my daughter when she was a little girl, partly because it was about an Indian girl and partly because it was a story about the power of doubling.  In it, an Indian girl is offered a reward by the raja (king) for a good deed.  It is a time of famine but the raja is hoarding all the rice in the storehouses.  The girl asks for a single grain of rice, to be doubled every day for 30 days, as her reward.  On the first day, she receives a single grain of rice, on the second day, two grains, and so on, until, on the 30th day, she has received over one billion grains of rice, in total!  The royal storehouses have all been emptied by then and the girl shares the rice with the people of the land who were starving.  There is a table at the end of the book, showing how the grains of rice multiplied:

Over a billion grains of rice

I thought it was a cute story and held on to the book long after my daughter had outgrown it.  Time to release it for another little girl to enjoy.

Today, I am grateful for:
- No phone call from the doctor's office!
- Dancer seems back to normal.
- The rain we received (don't have to water the garden, this week!)
- My new insurance card, with the new doctor listed, arrived in the mail
- All that I was able to accomplish, today

My joyful activity for the day has to be clearing the desk in the spare room!

    1. Thank you, Nil.

      It's a clever story, I thought. :)

  2. You're doing better on the cleaning than me! It's been raining here for days. Everything is just so wet. The lake and rivers are so high! I like the idea of you letting the book go so another young girl can treasure it. Perhaps that's the thought I shall have cleaning out some books!

    1. I've been hearing about the storms, on the news. Hope you are not having tornadoes, as well.

We all progress at our own pace when it comes to cleaning, don't we? Some days, I am motivated to clean; other days, it's a struggle. I'd much rather read or craft than clean. That's why I broke the cleaning down to only certain tasks each day; makes it more manageable.

I think, in June, I will do a 30 books decluttering challenge. Maybe you might like to join me?

  3. Looks like you have made lots of progress decluttering! That sounds like a cute story. I'm sure a new little girl will love it.

    1. Thank you, One Family. Yes, I'm making some progress. I think, the next step will be to do some sewing to declutter the fabric stash! :D

  4. That sort of start to the day is why I don’t have pets!

You’re really getting on with your tidying and decluttering aren’t you. I’m not familiar with the grain of rice story but heard something similar being read to a class of children.

Another day gone without a phone call from the doctor so that is good news ... praying that it continues to be the case xx

    1. Yes, that's the sort of start to the day when I wish that Dancer was with his real owner (my daughter)! That's when I text her and say, "YOUR cat did ..."! LOL. She would have to pay extra rent to keep a pet in her apartment and it was an added expense we didn't want (she already pays a very high rent as housing is very expensive up there).

I am starting to see some progress with the tidying and decluttering! A little more to go, I think. I am still debating if I want more shelving in the spare room - I think I could do with a couple of additional shelves for my crafts supplies. But, I should declutter a bit more, first, I think.

Thanks, yes, the longer I go without hearing from the doctor, the better! :D

  5. I remember that story from when I was little. It's a fascinating tale. I remember being amazed at how the quantities of rice increased. X

    1. It is a good story, isn't it? There is a double fold out page, at the end, showing 250 elephants bringing all the rice on the last day! We loved that part!

  6. I still have some books my children have outgrown, but I haven't. I use them time to time with the special needs girls I work with.

    1. Well, that's just it, Live and Learn; you still have a use for them. I have given away most of her books, but have kept some others. I guess I could continue to keep them for potential grand children, but, no doubt we'll be able to buy new ones when the time comes. :)

  7. The desk looks great, Bless. My father always taught me about the power of compound interest. I went grocery shopping today. I am working on a pair of socks for an Etsy customer. I will finished the first one this afternoon. Glad that you haven't heard from the doctor...

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Now to keep it looking like that! :D

You are a fast knitter! Didn't you just start on that pair of socks? I should knit myself a pair of socks - I gave away my last pair of handknitted socks to one of my aunts and I don't have a pair for myself, now!

  8. Every other week, my daughter is with her dad for the whole week, and when she gets back, our geriatric cat Chu Chu always throws up. My daughter thinks he’s sick and it’s his time. He just gets excited to see her. It’s a pattern.
I can’t bring myself to declutter any books.

    1. Aw, that's sweet that Chu Chu gets so excited to see your daughter! Maybe not the throwing up part of it, though! LOL. Books are hard to declutter.

  9. Looking at your during, and then after, desk.... is making me feel a tad guilty about my own wee desk. You get so much done! And it is so good that your dr hasn't contacted you. xxxxxxx

    1. Don't feel guilty, Ratnamurti. I have let things pile up because I just didn't have the time or energy to sort through and clean. Then, it became too overwhelming. I've been trying to dig out this room for I don't know how long! I'm finally getting there!

  10. We had rain, too, and at one time it was pouring down in torrents. The river is still high. I hope the beach will reappear by summer!

I wonder if there is some way to get Dancer to slow down when he eats? I once saw an advertisement for a special dish for dogs who eat too fast, and it has a strange interior with a convoluted shape so that the dog cannot lick up the food too fast. But I don't know what would work for a cat, other than to present food inside some gadget that must be chased in order for the food to fall out a little at a time. That would probably result in a rather grouchy Dancer!

    1. I hope the rain stops before the river floods, Bushlady!

Dancer has been known to eat slowly - he will put his paw into the bowl and pick up one kibble at a time and eat it. He is right pawed because he can pick up a kibble and bring it to his mouth without any problem, but, when he tries to do it with his left paw, the kibble usually falls down. Sometimes, he does the same with the tuna, too, delicately tasting it, a piece at a time. Other times, however, it's like he's not had anything to eat in forever!
