Thursday: Another Visit to the Library

New Library Book

Some weeks, I don't leave the house and I start the car and let it run for a few minutes just to make sure the battery doesn't die!  This week, however, I've been going somewhere almost every day!  On Monday, I went to the grocery store to pick up an order of groceries.  On Tuesday, I took Dancer to the vet's.  On Wednesday, I went to the pharmacy to pick up Dancer's medication.  Today, I went to the library to pick up a book that I had requested and was waiting for me!  It is a book that Mary-Lou at Patio Postcards had mentioned, a couple of weeks ago.  I'm looking forward to reading it.  I'm hoping it will help me with my decluttering.

Speaking of decluttering, I forgot to post my weekly decluttering total on the weekend.

October Week 3 Decluttering:
2 medicated creams (both had been prescribed back in 2016)
1 Halloween decoration
3 blouses

It was another cooler day with a daytime high of 73F.  But, it was sunny and pleasant.  I called my half-sister and chatted with her for a bit in the morning, texted one niece, wished a friend for her birthday, and felt I had been very social!  I received a couple of emails, too, from friends, that I will be replying to, later.  I walked up and down the drive way for a short time and watered some of the plants in the front garden using water I had collected while waiting for the shower water to warm up, etc.

In the afternoon, I went to the library to pick up my book (Frugal fun).  I had debated going to the burger place next door to the library, but, decided against it.  Instead, I came home and cooked some frozen chicken wings and made teriyaki chicken wings for brunch.

After brunch, I did a load of laundry (kitchen rug, bathroom mats, etc.) and cleaned the bathroom.  Then, I watched news, replied to blog comments, and watched some online videos.  The daylight hours are getting shorter, now, aren't they?  They'll get even shorter when daylight savings time ends and we return to standard time on Sunday, November 5.  I will need to train myself to wake up earlier to have more daylight hours!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Sunshine and mild temperatures
- Phone chats, texts, and emails
- Time spent outdoors
- Library services
- Working appliances

Today's joyful activity was picking up another library book.

Plans for tomorrow include tending to the garden with M and finishing up the dining room (my room of the week).

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. So pleased to know you are getting out and about now. That looks an interesting book to read. It's true that too much clutter can make you feel unhappy and I wish I could get to grips with my wardrobes as I have too many clothes that I don't wear or cannot wear as they don't fit.
Our clocks go back tomorrow night but at least it will be an extra hour in bed.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I do wear my N95 masks when I am out and about, but, this week has been almost like how it was before the pandemic!
I agree with you that clothes are hard to declutter. I have several sizes of clothes in my wardrobe as I've had weight fluctuations. Could you store the items that don't fit you in a box or a suitcase and tell yourself you'll try them on again in 1 year's time and donate them if they still don't fit? The question I am asking myself now, when I am going through my closet is, "Will I wear this to go outside to the front garden?" (meaning, others can see me in it). If the answer is, "No", then, why am I keeping it? There are a few exceptions to that, of course, and they include two pairs of shorts and a tank top that I wear inside the house on the very hottest days of summer. If I need to go out to the garden when I am wearing them, I will put on a skirt over the shorts and another blouse over the tank top!
Enjoy your extra hour in bed, tomorrow! :)

  2. Ah that never ending journey of decluttering. I hope that the book helps you. I have come to understand why the area of my crafting seems impossible for me to declutter & why I keep adding to it. All the other areas are within ease of decluttering & not growing, but my scrapping & card stash is still oh SO large. After hearing Tracy talk & reading her book, I at least know why this is. Now is it helping me declutter the stash?? ... ummm, time will tell but at least I've stopped, truly stopped, adding to it. I like your question about clothes "would I want to be seen in this?"

    1. It is a journey, isn't it? You'd think I'd be all decluttered, given the number of years I've been at it! I've stopped buying various things I used to buy like books and decorative items, but, I still find it hard to pare down what I do have!
I am finding that clothing question to be very useful!

  3. I have too many clothes too. And probably too much "stuff". There's a British TV series called "Sort your life out" (BBC) where a family are challenged to declutter 50% of their possessions. (Granted, they have far too much to begin with!) I always get inspired when I watch it, but then lose the enthusiasm when it comes down to actually doing something!! Here's a link to a trailer for the series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGMDV82m3Ro

    1. I think a number of us have too many clothes and other belongings, don't we? It's difficult for me to let go of certain things, but; I think it would be easier if there was a specific reason, such as downsizing. Thank you for the link; I shall look into them. :)

  4. I looked up that book -doesnt seem to be available in our county libraries. But TMs other book "making space, clutter free" is available in the online library, so I have borrowed it.

    1. Apparently that book came out before the book I just borrowed and it is also available at my library. I will read the book I have and maybe borrow that other book, too. :)

  5. I wonder how many books on decluttering and organization have been written? I still have the "Messie's Manual" and a couple of others in that series that I can't quite donate yet!
It's hard to realize that in a few weeks it will get dark quite early! I don't drive on the highway in the dark. so my trips to town will need planning for earlier in the day.

    1. Probably too many, but, the fact that people are writing these books and people like me are still reading them say something, doesn't it? I sometimes wonder when abundance went from being a blessing and a privilege to being a problem! Having a home library was once something to be aspired to; today, having more than 30 books (according to one decluttering authority) is too many!
I don't drive at night, myself, Bushlady. It doesn't get dark as early here as it might where you are, but, the sun sets around 5:00 p.m. in winter.

  6. I think I need to read that book! I'll check my library. I really like how you decide on whether or not to keep clothes. I regularly change size. I lose weight but then regain it. So I have a lot of clothes stored, though not all that much in any one size! Ah well.

    1. It does sound like a helpful book, doesn't it? Angela has mentioned an earlier book written by the same author.
I, too, have had weight fluctuations, over the years. I've got rid of most of the too tight items (except for the 3 dresses my mother sewed for me - they are the last dresses she sewed for me). What I am dealing with now are clothes that have become too baggy on me and clothes that my cousins have given me which fit me, but, not necessarily my style (like the blouse with the fringe).

  7. Good for you for continuing the decluttering. I need to seriously get back on the wagon again. I can feel the stuff creeping in threatening to suffocate me! Never a good feeling.

The book looks really interesting. I think that's the thing I want, space for the bits I really want to appreciate and space to feel comfortable and cosy. I'll never be a minimalist, but I would like a few less things.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I think that one method of decluttering doesn't fit all of us, so, it's good to consider different methods and see what makes sense to us. In the meantime, I keep chipping away at it. :)

  8. I am an odd one and actually like the shorter days and the end of daylight savings time. Very strange, right?
Your car was getting a workout last week! I wonder how this week has been and if the adventures have continued. I will read on and find out.

    1. I think it's nice that you like the shorter days and enjoy the longer evenings. I think I need to wake up earlier than I do to enjoy more daylight hours! :D
There have been fewer drives this week! :D
