Monday

"That was one small step for a squash vine..."

I thought the other squash vine (at the upper part of the photo) would be the vine to climb up the steps, but, it seems to have stopped growing!  Instead, a side vine made it to the first step, this weekend!   I think the 90F temperature brought on a growth spurt!

Thank you, everyone, for your very kind comments on my post, yesterday.  I have always been a bit of a collector, but, I usually manage to keep the collections under control.  But, every so often, I look around and see that the collections have grown or there are too many different collections or remnants of collections.  Part of me loves seeing all the decorative items and many of them have memories associated with them.  The other part of me wants less visual clutter and fewer items on display!  I need to continually edit and curate my collections, I guess.

M gave me a second mini pumpkin, so, I changed my display, today:

Centerpiece Version 2

The second pumpkin has a silvery grey, almost pale lilac color to it.  I like this arrangement, too, but, my daughter says she preferred yesterday's arrangement with the black candle holder contrasting with the orange pumpkin.  Which one do you prefer?

It was another sunny and warm day, today.  I walked around the garden, redid my centerpiece display, took the trash cans to the end of the driveway, and called my friend S (not neighbor S) to thank her for this:

Dinner, Compliments of Friend S

She had prepared meals for a mutual friend who has had emergency surgery and she sent me a share of it through her husband and daughter!  Rice, green beans, fish "cutlets" (the round balls - made with a fish mixture that is battered, breaded, and deep fried), young jackfruit curry, potato curry, cabbage, lentils, and beef!  There was a small container of yogurt, as well, which the manufacturers are calling "cultured cream"!  Friend S makes the best Sri Lankan rice and curries!  I had some of it for my dinner and there's enough leftover for tomorrow's lunch, too!  I picked a bag of curry leaves and sent it to S through her daughter.

I usually post my weekly meal plans on a Monday, but, I will post that, tomorrow!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another sunny and warm day
- Kind blog comments
- Friend S sending me dinner (and her husband and daughter bringing it to me)
- Weekly trash collection services
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was rearranging my fall pumpkin display!

Plans for tomorrow include spot watering the garden and tidying the dining area.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

    1. I am blessed to have such kind friends. Cultured cream does sound very posh, doesn't it? It didn't taste that much different than yogurt, though! :D

  2. I did prefer yesterday's display with the black lantern as you asked so nicely. The second pumpkin is a very unusual colour and I've never seen one like that before. That looks a very delicious meal from your very kind friend. My plans for today is finishing the housework I started yesterday.

    1. Thank you for letting me know which arrangement you preferred, Eileen. It'll be interesting to see which one is liked more!
It was a very delicious meal! We all cook differently and it's always nice to eat someone else's cooking, I think.
I hope your day goes well and you finish up the housework. :)

  3. Oh my goodness, that plate of food from S looks delicious. What a wonderful assortment of food.
I imagine those fish balls were especially good.
I think your daughter is right and the black grounded the arrangement which added to the appeal in my eyes. I'd put the lantern back and maybe place the newer pumpkin off the plate, but close, to the right and see how it looks. It's a bit of an outlier ;)

    1. The food from S was delicious! A true "taste of home". I don't know why, but my curries don't taste the same as S's curries. I think I need to take cooking lessons from her!
Thank you for telling me which arrangement you prefer! So far, you are the second blog reader to prefer the one with the black lantern. I shall try changing the arrangement as you suggest and post a picture!

  4. If I have to choose one, I choose the two pumpkin display. While the colors may be more uniform, I like the combo of shapes better in the two pumpkin one.
Another great looking meal from S. :)

    1. Do you mean the display with the two pumpkins and the black lantern? If so, that arrangement seems to be leading as the preferred choice!
It was a lovely meal and I enjoyed it very much!

  5. Do be careful and don't stand near that squash vine for too long, it might wrap around your legs and haul you away! I like both versions of the centerpiece. I don't think I've seen a squash that silvery/lilac color before. How lovely of your friend to prepare such a gourmet feast!

    1. Ha, ha, if you don't see a post from me for a few days running, you'll know I've been turned into a squash vine covered scarecrow!
So far, you are the only one to say you don't have a preference! That is a very unusual pumpkin, isn't it? M didn't know the name of the species; he said he saw one at a market, last year, bought it and saved the seeds to plant this year. Maybe I'll save the seeds from this one and see if they grow!
It was very kind of my friend to prepare and send me a meal. Her food is delicious!

  6. I agree with your daughter that the black lantern was a nice contrast. I think you may have some other things in your collection to create a second display with that interesting silver grey/lilac pumpkin!
The food looks really yummy, your friend is kind to think of you and the friend recovering from surgery.

    1. I think you are in the majority, Bushlady, because quite a few people have said that the first arrangement was their preference. :) I just might have to keep the silver grey pumpkin off to the side as was suggested by Debra (56 Steps) above or make a second arrangement as you suggest. Maybe for the other dining table!
It was very kind and generous of friend S to think of me and send me a meal, as well, wasn't it?

  7. That silvery squash looks so ethereal. It makes a great Halloween decoration but as I'm a sucker for candles, I'd probably go with the lantern.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa; it seems like the majority of those who commented preferred the candle holder!
