Friday: A Keeper and a Maybe Not

A Keeper

I wore this blouse that my cousin had given me, the other day, and I decided that it is definitely a keeper!  It's soft and a bit floaty, and I have a light blue cardigan than goes well with it.

I'm not so sure about this other top, though:

Maybe Not

It is a mock twin set with three quarter length sleeves.  First of all, I am not a very big fan of three quarter length sleeves.  I like short sleeves and long sleeves; with three quarter length sleeves, I keep pulling them down!  I like the white lace insert, but, the arm holes are a bit too big!  If I decide to keep it, I need to put two darts to make the arm holes a little smaller.  I am also wondering if I might have more use for the cardigan part of it (even with the shorter than I like sleeves) if I remove the white lace insert!  Or, maybe I should just donate it!  For now, I have put it aside in the "Undecided" pile!

It was another hot day, today, with the temperature going up to 95F in the afternoon.  I'm loving it!  When M was here in the evening to tend to the garden, he said it was a custom made day for me!  LOL.  He knows that I like it warm.  My heating budget likes it, too, because the longer it stays warm the less I need to heat the house!

I didn't feel any side effects from the flu shot - just a little bit of soreness in the arm, at the injection site.  Even so, I took it easy and relaxed, today.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The sunny and warm day
- Minimal side effects from the flu shot
- M's help with the garden
- An abundance of clothes from which to choose, thanks to my cousin
- Texts and emails from family and friends

Today's joyful activity was picking cherry tomatoes from the garden.

Plans for tomorrow include decorating for Halloween and reading.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. I like both tops but I"m not a fan of 3/4 length sleeves either. I would definitely buy the floaty top if I saw it for sale. I've had to put our heating on this week just in the evenings when it goes very chilly. Yesterday it rained non-stop all day but many parts of north Wales were flooded, thankfully not here. It's sunny today so Tilly deserves an extra long walk as she missed out yesterday.

    1. I really like the floaty top. Sounds like your weather is definitely changing! I'm glad you are not flooded in your area. I'm also glad that you are having a sunny day and Tilly will get to enjoy a long walk. :)

  2. Our Friday was very wet, lots of flooding across Britain - including the main road across the county. Bob was diverted on his journey to and from Norwich. On the way home he was diverted down a very small road and met a lot of traffic coming the other way. The first driver stopped, and told Bob he'd have to turn round as there was an overturned vehicle further along. Fortunately no serious injuries. The very warm weather at the start of the month is a distant memory! I like the first top. Give away the second - it's all wrong for you as it is. If you remove the white insert, it may destroy the structure of the garment, and you won't be happy with the way it hangs or the sleeve length. Donate it now and let someone else enjoy it, don't waste your time on a project with a high risk of dissatisfaction!

    1. Sorry to hear about all the rain, Angela. There is rarely a happy medium when it comes to weather, is there? Too much rain and floods, or too little rain and drought; too hot and scorching, or too cold and freezing! I'm glad Bob was able to get to where he needed to go and come back safely.

Thank you for nudging me to donate the second garment. I don't have to try and make every garment I'm given work for me, do I? It's not like I don't have enough clothes! I shall donate it and maybe it'll be something someone else will enjoy wearing. Thank you, Angela. :)

  3. What if you cut off the sleeves of the orange one to make it short sleeves? Would that work better?

    1. No, I don't think so, June. The white insert will still have gaping armholes. There are no buttons on the orange outer part and the sides just hang down, so you can see that the armholes are too big. I think I'll just take Angela's advice, above, and donate it. But, I do have one or two other tops with three quarter length sleeves that I might shorten the sleeves to make them work for me. :)

  4. I like the first one. The colours are quite pretty. The other one would make me look a funny colour! Did you wear the second one a while or just try it on? I would say if you're not comfortable in it, donate it, as you probably won't wear it and it will just end up taking up space!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Yes, I wore the orange "twin set" all day, earlier in the week, and I was constantly pulling the sides of the orange part to cover the gaping armholes (there are no buttons to hold the sides closed in front. It didn't matter too much because I was alone in the house, but, I'd be very self conscious if I wore it to go somewhere. It won't be one of the first things I'd reach for to wear! I think I'll take your advice and Angela's (above) and donate this item.

  5. I see the first top has a liner. It looks comfortable and it is good that you have a cardigan that goes with it as you often need extra warmth except on those really hot days. The other one is pretty but it seems you will need to make changes one way or another to fit it into your wardrobe. Maybe your daughter will have some ideas about it when she comes for Thanksgiving.

    1. Yes, Bushlady; the first blouse has a liner, which is a little more fitted than the top layer. That blouse is a keeper. :) The second one...I like that lace insert, but, it'll take some work to make it fit properly. I think the best thing to do will be to donate it. My daughter will have the opportunity to go through the clothes I'm setting aside to donate (she has asked me to keep them for her to look through when she comes down for Thanksgiving). :)

  6. The first top is pretty. I agree with Angela about the second top! Give it away and someone else may be very happy to get it. Glad you didn't get any side effects from the shot.

    1. Thank you, Celie. Yes, I've put the orange top to wash when I next do laundry and after that, I'll put it in the donations bag.

  7. You have beautiful things.

The one that you're undecided - perhaps it's a question of how comfortable you are in it. I think it looks lovely. I'm glad that you're not suffering after the flu shot.

And I'm glad that M is looking after you.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. I'm not much of a clothes shopper, myself, but, I benefit from my cousin's sense of clothing style and generosity!
I got through the flu vaccine without any ill effects; next up is the Covid booster! M is a very kind friend as well as gardener; I need to bake him something for his next visit. :)

  8. I like both tops (I like your description of the first as being "floaty" :)
Your cousin passes on a lot of nice clothes your way doesn't she?
Is she always cleaning out her closet?
You know one of my favorite decluttering phrases is
"A maybe (in your case undecided) is just a delayed No"
I have found that to be true.

    1. Yes, my cousin does pass on a lot of nice clothes my way! She has been clearing out her closets more often since her mother died. Her mother had three or four closets full of clothes and I know my cousins spent a lot of time bagging up everything (they gave me some of the clothes, then, too) and donating them. Also, my cousin has recently retired and maybe she is getting rid of some of her former work clothes. She also likes to shop! LOL. My daughter and I are benefitting from her generosity.
Yes, I will be donating the orange and white blouse. Thank you for helping me decide. :)
