Another Vet Visit on Tuesday

"Let me out, Mummy!"

I took Dancer back to the vet, this afternoon, for a blood test to check his thyroid levels, to get his arthritis injection, and to get refills on his medications.  One hour before we left, I gave him the sedative I was supposed to give him.  He didn't like having stuff syringed into his mouth, but, it really helped.  He still meowed and panted and drooled on the way to the vet's clinic, but, he didn't meow as much or as loudly as on previous occasions and he was quite mellow on the way home.  I took the above picture while we were waiting in the examination room.

He's been sleeping it off under my bed since we came home, but, he has eaten some tuna and drunk some water from time to time and he seems to be okay.  The vet is supposed to call me with the results of the thyroid test to see if his medication dosage needs to be adjusted.  In the meantime, they are going to call in a five day supply of his current medication to make sure I have enough until they either refill the old dosage or a new medication is prescribed.

Before I took Dancer to the vet, I did some weeding in the back garden.  After we came home, I took a nap on the sofa!

Yesterday (Monday), I did laundry, made appointments for Dancer's check up for today, and my own blood tests for next week.  I also put in an order for groceries and picked them up, later in the evening. It wasn't a big order of groceries, I mostly wanted to pick up some of Dancer's favorite tuna and stock up on condensed milk which was on sale (I use it in my tea instead of regular milk).

In addition to the tuna (4 cans @ $1.25 = $5), I bought:

1 dozen eggs = $2.99
1 loaf of bread = $1.79
2 bottles of apple juice ( 64 fl.oz@ for $1.69@ with coupon) = $3.38
2 boxes cereal (12 oz.@ for $1.69@ = $3.38
1 can (15 fl. oz.) coffee drink (for my daughter; reg. price $3.99, free with coupon + $.05 can deposit) = $0.05
6 cans condensed milk @$2 = $12.00

My total (with Dancer's tuna) came to $28.59 (total before discounts and coupons = $46.78)

Only my groceries, without Dancer's tuna, came to $23.59

October grocery spending to date = $12.35 (on 10/19) + $23.59 = $35.94

I might do one more grocery shopping before the month is over; salmon fillet is on sale (as of Wednesday) for $8.99/lb.  I might buy some and freeze for when my daughter comes home.

I am grateful for:

- Vet services for Dancer
- The sedative helped
- A safe drive to the vet clinic and back
- The availability of groceries
- Working appliances

My joyful activity was taking a nap on the sofa!

Plans for tomorrow include tending to the garden with M and doing some tidying and cleaning.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. That's good that Dancer's visit to the vet wasn't as traumatic for him this time. Did you ever hear about the spot on his lung as seen on the X-ray? Your eggs are cheap at $2.99 for a dozen that's £2.46 here and I'm paying £2.00 for half a dozen. It's foggy here today I was going to go out for the day but have changed my mind now.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; yes, he was much calmer. No, I haven't heard back from the vet about the results from the x-ray of his lungs, but, she did say that she'll let me know if they find something and no news was good news. I had made a note to myself to ask her about the results, anyway, but, she was on vacation when I took Dancer in, yesterday (there were other vets who were there, but, I didn't meet with them), so I couldn't ask her. I'll ask her when she calls back about the recent blood test results.
Egg prices have come down since last year, when they were around $6.00 per dozen.
Sorry to hear that the weather kept you from going out for the day; hopefully, there will be a sunny day, soon. It's very cloudy and overcast here, too, but gardener M prefers this weather to the heat!

  3. Glad to read that the sedation helped Dancer with his anxiety & that in turn helped you. :) Coupon shopping for groceries isn't a big thing in our region, few stores produce coupons. Our Federal government has asked all the major (there are 3) chains to rein in the price increases & help people struggling with food insecurity. They all promised quite loudly & publicly, but we have yet to see any action of price reductions.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. Just giving him the sedative was stressful enough! LOL.
This store offers weekly digital coupons on certain items as well as weekly specials and I try to take advantage of those sales. I do believe that prices will continue to rise, so I stock up when I find a good sale.

  4. Glad that the trip to the vet went better this time, and that's some picture of Dancer. He doesn't look quite as relaxed as he does when he's helping you with a quilt. :)

  5. I'm so glad the medicine calmed Dancer down. The poor thing gets so worked up.
Sounds like if you gave it to him 2 hours before you left, he would be even calmer for the drive.
When I moved from Baltimore to Rhode Island I drove and I knew my dog would not handle the drive well as she hated the car. The vet gave me what I referred to as "doggie downers" and they helped tremendously.
Good job getting the free coffee drink for your daughter. I like to go to the store early in the morning when they first open and no one is there and check out the mark down rack. This past Saturday, I got a box of cereal that was marked 50% off from $5.29. (It was slashed from the box cutter when opening the case and had been taped. It was perfectly fine). I thought I'd give it a try - Pumpkin Pie Spice mini shredded wheat is not something I'd ever purchase but in that moment they appealed to me.
When I got to the register, it took $4.59 off then another .50 cents so they were .20 cents. That made me very happy.
As far as the cereal, boy are they sweet. I just put a handful of the pumpkin pie nuggets on top of my regular plain bran flakes and it balances it out nicely.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, the dosage instructions say give 1- 2 hours before the appointment. I might try 1 1/2 hrs. before leaving, next time.
Seems like this store has started giving one free item every month or so. So far, I've got a cake mix, a box of cereal, and this coffee drink!
Sounds like you got a good deal on that box of cereal! A little of the sweetened cereal goes a long way, doesn't it? I like the idea of going in to the store very early in the morning, when, it isn't too crowded! It would require waking up very, very early for me, and we know how much I enjoy that! LOL. But, it might be one way to shop in person. :)

  6. Poor Dancer! He seems to hate the vets as much as Millie - she hides whenever the cat carrier makes an appearance, but she really needs a check up. Love FD xx

    1. Dancer, too, used to run and hide when I'd take the carrier out; now, I leave it out all the time, in a corner of the family room, and he has got used to it being out. I hope Millie does well when it is her turn to go to the vet!

  7. I guess Dancer has forgiven you by now for his outing? I'm sure a little tuna works wonders. That photo is great and I can see it one day filling in a category in the photography challenge.

    1. Yes, Bushlady, Dancer has forgiven me! But, only after several servings of tuna! LOL.
Not sure if I can use Dancer's photo in this month's photo challenge (the theme is The Changing Season), but, I'll try! :)

    1. Thank you, Sharon; the sedative did help him. I shall find out the results of his blood test by the end of the week (hopefully).

  9. It sounds like the sedative helped Dancer cope. Vet visits are stressful for everyone! I'm impressed that you've spent so little on groceries this month. You've gotten some very good deals!

    1. The sedative did help him, Celie. Next time, I might give it to him about 1 1/2 hours before his vet appointment.
I haven't been buying a lot of groceries lately, Celie, as I'm trying to eat from the freezer and cabinets. I'll probably spend more closer to the holidays. :)
