Productive Saturday

At Ease on the Cleared Coffee Table

Another late night, last night, going to bed around 4:30 a.m.  But, I slept for 6 1/2 hours, so, I got enough sleep.

After I had my cup of tea and replied to blog comments, etc., it was a little past noon and I had half a banana and a couple of crackers for breakfast.

Then, I washed a couple of my hand knitted wool sweaters and a couple of pairs of wool socks.  I lay the sweaters flat on towels to air dry.  After they've dried, I'll put them away until winter.

Then, I took a small pile of papers from the piles that were on the table in the family room and went through them.  Most of it was put aside for recycling and I filed the few items that needed to be filed.  Then, I took the next pile and the next, until all the piles of papers on the table were processed and I cleared the rest of the items I had on the table (some empty boxes, the rest of the canning jars, etc.

Halfway through, I took a break for lunch - an egg salad sandwich.  I can have sandwiches again because I have bread now.

I didn't take a before picture of the table, but, this is how it looked at 3:30 p.m.:

The Table is Cleared!
Which is how it should look at all times, but, unfortunately, it doesn't!   I wonder how long it would be before Dancer notices it is cleared!

After tea, I practiced the piano for 30 minutes.

Then, I went through the papers on the computer table and tidied that, a bit.  The desk top computer doesn't work, but, I haven't taken it to the computer store to see if they can clear the memory or whatever needs to be done to recycle it.  I also have a couple of old, non-working laptops stacked on the desk, too, until I can figure out what to do with them!  I still need to clear out some of the things that have been dumped on the table, but, at least all the stacks of daily mail have been cleared:

Computer Table

Cleaning apparently makes me hungry!  I was hungry by 7:00 p.m. and wanted dinner!  I quickly cooked a ground beef curry (keema) and had it with parathas (Indian flat bread).  After dinner, I finished cleaning the family room and swept the floor (didn't feel like lugging the vacuum cleaner).

Then, I treated myself to dessert - waffles with fresh peaches!  Some ice cream or whipped cream would have been nice, but, I didn't have, either.  Oh, well.  Fewer calories, this way!  LOL.  I have leftover waffles and the last fresh peach for tomorrow's breakfast.

I am too tired to clean the kitchen, today.  I did do the dishes and wiped down one counter because I knocked over a glass of water and had to mop that up!

I called friend R and chatted with her for a bit and, later, video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A productive day
- A tidy family room
- Garden flowers and fruits
- My daughter helping me with some online stuff
- Dancer keeping an eye on things for me!

"It's been a long hard day and the bed is softer than the coffee table"

Saturday's To Do List:
- Catch up day:
  - Paperwork/filing - DID a lot
  - Clean the family room - DONE
  - Clean the kitchen
  - Practice the piano!  (I start lessons again, next week!) - DONE

I don't normally make a to do list for Sundays, but, I still have one basket of papers to go through and I am going to try to get it all done, tomorrow.

How was your Saturday?   What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. I love the Dancer photos ... that is one contented kitty cat!

There are charities in this area which collect old computer equipment to refurbish. One company donates the refurbished laptops to schools, another sends theirs to Africa, another sells them to raise money for the homeless. Maybe there is something like that where you live. I originally found all of these by searching for 'what to do with old laptops'!

Well done on sorting your piles of papers. I used to be the same but retrained myself to deal with it immediately if it will take less than five minutes, or it can go in my one small basket but that has to be dealt with as soon as the basket fills up. As I got used to my new routine I found that most of the paperwork is dealt with immediately and I don't have piles of new stuff anymore. Of course I still had a mountain of unwanted old papers in various cupboards that I have been clearing but once that's finished I will be on top of the problem.

    1. He's the king of the house, if not the jungle! LOL.

Thank you, Eileen; I will do a search for possible donation places for the laptops, etc. The only problem is my daughter says we should get any personal info removed and I don't know how to do that because I can't get them to start!

I was staying on top of my paperwork and had all caught up until recently, when I'd set papers aside to disinfect before I opened and processed them. I have been tossing the obviously junk mail in the recycling bin, even before bringing them into the house, but, recently, I've received a lot of stuff in the mail pertaining to Medicare (health care for seniors) since I will be turning 65, this year. At first, I sprayed the mail with disinfectant and kept it until it dried, but, as time went on, I just set the mail aside for longer periods of time! I, too, have a basket and that is also full...mostly with stuff to be filed! That the pile I want to tackle, today!

    2. I agree, you should erase all the personal info before you pass the old equipment on. There are instructions on how to delete your information on the internet but I think that in your case, because they won't start, it may involve removing the hard drive so not the most straightforward thing to do.

Here, there are lots of IT repair specialist who work from their homes and who would come to your house to do the work. That's not really what you want at present but you may be able to find someone who will collect it to do the work.

  2. Dancer looks so much like my cats, especially Annie, that I could have sworn that was her in the bottom picture.

  3. You had a very productive day indeed. Those are two chores that tend to be put off until later, and you have managed them in one weekend. Firstly, hand washing the woolens and getting them put away in clothes storage is a big job done. And secondly, tackling all those stalagmites must have felt like a day of spelunking. Ha. No wonder you felt hungry (and Dancer needed his rest). Great job.

My weekend was mostly dealing with my grocery order....cooking and mashing the rutabaga, portioning and freezing the meat order, and baking more keto bread. The Trivia game was apparently more difficult than usual (ouch), but my 95 year old father managed the best score of 22 out of 25 questions. He's still got it.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Yes, two big jobs accomplished! It feels good and I feel happy every time I look around the family room! :)

You've had a busy weekend, all that cooking plus some wardrobe pushing, if I recall. :) Well done to your father! I bet he was happy to have done so well on your quiz! :)

  4. You're doing amazingly with your tidying. It's very rare, if ever, that my dining table is completely clear. It's usually home to a pile of ironing, schoolwork or (at the moment) a tray of sand.
Waffles and fresh peaches sound delicious. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. This table in the family room is where I dump things when I come in from the garage and where I keep things to be taken to the car or the garage. It is next to the laundry closet, so, occasionally, the laundry baskets get set on it, as well!

  5. I wonder if Dancer has tried out the table in the family room yet?
I'm reading this on Sunday and I see you had an egg salad sandwich for lunch yesterday and that is what we had today! You also mentioned having to mop up some water. Well, I put a jug with a pouch of milk in the door shelf of the fridge, closed the door, heard a clunk and opened to find the jug on its side and milk cascading down the fridge and onto the kitchen floor. The spin mop came in handy!
Yesterday DH was trying to make maple candy but it didn't thicken and change colour, so I tipped in a can of evaporated milk and used a beater and then poured the result into a square pan and put it in the freezer. It will be used over icecream or plain cake, I guess. One thing is certain, it won't be wasted and it will be delicious!

    1. As far as I know, Dancer hasn't jumped up on to the table, yet! He's found a far more comfortable spot on daughter's bed for his afternoon nap, today! LOL.

Ha, ha, sounds like we are having similar experiences with food and accidents! Although milk spills are harder to clean up than just water!

Your maple syrup concoction sounds wonderful! Enjoy!

  6. You did have a productive day and got quite a bit done.
I'm glad you got a loaf of bread and were able to have a sandwich.
Your cleaned surfaces are inspiring lol
My kitchen table is where I have my laptop and it gets a bit busy too.
    Oh well :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. I seem to be a yo-yo cleaner! I spend a lot of time and effort and get the place clean and tidy, then, I maintain it for a few weeks and then slack off and things pile up, again! And the cycle repeats! At least, it keeps me busy and out of trouble! :D

  7. Are you seeing a doctor soon? You seem down/tired/off lately. Or might it be the stress of what’s happening in the world?
    Dancer is adorable.

    1. Thank you, Akasha; no, I won't be seeing my doctor any time soon as her office is closed due to the pandemic! I can call her if there is something urgent, but, even if I do, she'll just probably tell me to go to the nearest urgent care center. :) But, I'm OK. I do get tired easily (fatigue is one of the side effects of my medications) and I'm sure the whole pandemic situation does have an impact, even though I try not to stress about it. Next week is when my daughter was planning to come down for a visit, but, that visit is not happening, now. I don't know when she will be able to visit, next.

      Dancer says thank you! :)
