Curfew Lifted on Thursday

I haven't been very productive these last couple of days.  I've been glued to the TV, watching all the news coverage of the things that have been happening.  They have been emotional days and, at times, I've had to turn off the TV for my own emotional well being.

Yesterday, I did a little housework in between watching TV.  It was a hot day, with our high going up to 98F.  I watered the garden, both front and back, because some of the plants, including my tomato plant, were withering due to the heat!  Later in the evening, I practiced the piano.

New Hat
I also finished knitting another hat.  That is the end of the blue yarn from my sweater!  I now have five hats knitted to donate.

Today, has been a little cooler.  I watched the coverage of the funeral of George Floyd and the protests.  Our curfew was lifted, today, which is a good sign, I think.  I hope that there won't be a need for it to be put into effect, again.

Today, I am grateful for:
- More peaches from the tree (which is still standing upright!)
- Television
- Intact window screens which enable me to open them
- Freshly cooked rice
- Leftovers

Today's joyful activity was picking fresh peaches from the tree.

Friday's To Do List:
- Clean the bathrooms
- Do one deep cleaning task (kitchen)
- Vacuum

How was your day?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. I like the flowers your daughter painted on the book case. 😊

I didn’t watch George Floyd’s funeral. I was afraid it would stress me out more. I watched PBS news and then spent time crocheting and grading.

I’m not sure if we still have curfew. My sister asked me this morning, and she was surprised when I said I didn’t know. I told her that I hadn’t bothered to check because I didn’t go out between 7.30 pm and 6 am.

It’s so nice of you to make hats to donate. 😊

    1. Thank you, Nil; she painted more cherry blossoms on the other side, too.

Sounds like you are busy with classes. Hope your mother and sisters are keeping safe and all is well with them.

  4. I'm glad to hear the curfew has been lifted and hope the situation remains calm. You must be relieved that things appear to be calling down. Does the lifting of curfew apply to your daughter as well? There have been several protests locally, only one of which maintained social distancing as much as was possible, but they were all peaceful and the police have issued a statement to thank the participants for their behaviour.

It's good news that the peach tree is still standing and that you get to enjoy the fruit. Are they fully ripe now?

I like your daughter's unit. She is very talented.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. My daughter said that her city, too, lifted their curfew. Not that either of us is likely to go anywhere! The protests here have not maintained any social distancing from what I have been able to see. Not everyone was wearing a mask, either, and even among those who were wearing a mask, too many were wearing them incorrectly. I anticipate a huge spike in the number of new cases in a couple of weeks.

I think the fruit will be ready to pick, either this weekend or sometime next week. I'll wait until this evening to get M's opinion, too, about their ripeness.

  6. Between the incredible heat and the unrest, which is emotional by its very nature, it is remarkable that you can get anything accomplished. Practicing the piano, knitting another hat for the Cancer Centre and going outside to water the garden are HUGE accomplishments in my book.

Lovely painting by your daughter. It's good to see that she is weathering the crisis by turning to her creative side, just like her mother.

  7. I have been affected by all that's going on as well. It's just awful the things that have happened to people and I'm glad attention is finally being paid. Hopefully the future will bring change.

Love your daughter's decoration of her shelves.
Turing something otherwise headed to the trash into something useful (and pretty!) is so rewarding.

Thank you, Debra; I, too, am glad to see my daughter's creativity. :)

  9. The hat is cute. To me it looks like there are little blue sheep jumping from rock to rock!
I like your daughter's design on her shelf unit. I knew she would come up with something great!
Here in Canada right now there are a lot of reflections on the state of affairs here, too. We are not always so squeaky clean either and the more we can do in both countries to ensure that all people are treated with respect and humanity, the better we will all be.

    1. Lol, they do look a little like blue sheep, now that you mentioned it! I was trying to reproduce a pattern I once knitted, a long time ago, which I have now forgotten. I didn't have enough blue yarn to add the row of V's to the lower row of blue (the 'rocks').

I hope that we all take this time to examine ourselves, Bushlady. I can't speak for anyone else, but, I know that I have been doing some soul searching of my own.
