Warm Wednesday

Peach Lemonade

Another hot day, here, today, but, a little cooler than yesterday, with a high of only 97F.  LOL!  I made myself a glass of peach lemonade, using some of the leftover peach canning syrup, fresh lemon juice, and water.  Delicious!

I mentioned the desiccated roses on my rose bushes, in my blog post, yesterday:

Roses: June 6

Roses: June 10
The doctor's office returned my call in the morning.  Apparently, the office is closed for the duration and they don't know when they will reopen!  This is a single doctor, one nurse, one receptionist type of establishment, not a big clinic.  But, the receptionist said that they will call and schedule me when they do reopen and if, in the meantime, I need to speak with the doctor, she said to call and leave a message (their voicemail recording give a number to contact the doctor) and the doctor will call me back.  Let's just hope that I won't need to!

Today wasn't as productive a day as yesterday.  I put off vacuuming, as it was too hot to vacuum (at least, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!).  I did water the houseplants and, in the evening, when it was cooler, watered the front garden, too.  I also reorganized the bottom shelf of one of the kitchen cabinets (the one I pulled out the box of empty jars, yesterday) and made room to store the two gallon jugs of vinegar I had bought prior to the shut down.  I had stored them in the laundry area, till now, but, the kitchen cabinet is a better place for them.

I called family and friends to check on them, in the afternoon.  Friend R said the Sri Lankan store had my tea, so, she added a couple of boxes of tea and a jar of curry powder for me to the order that she was placing; I will go and pick it up (curbside delivery) when it is ready and drop off her groceries on my way home.

I also received the shipment of canning jars my daughter ordered for me!  Shipping was free if one ordered a minimum of $35 worth of merchandise.  I ordered 4 dozen 8-oz. quilted canning jars (at $8.49/doz., they were cheaper than the regular, non-quilted ones!) and some oatmeal to bring the total up to receive free shipping!  I was out of oatmeal, so, that was a pantry staple I needed.  I will be able to process the rest of the peaches, now, and I'll have enough jars for the other jams I want to make, as and when the other garden fruits ripen.

I made milk rice for brunch and ate it with the last of the fish curry.  I was hungry, again, at tea time, so I made some tuna salad and had it on crackers.  Later, for dinner, I made over a package of sliced roast beef, sauteing them with onions, carrots, green beans I had frozen, earlier, and potatoes.  Yay, I am actually following my meal plan!  Leftovers were put in the fridge for tomorrow night's planned dinner.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The doctor's office calling me back
- Chatting with family and friends
- Ceiling fans
- Electricity to run the fans
- Delivery services

Today's joyful activity was lounging on the sofa with the fan on and sipping cold peach lemonade!  LOL.

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- Water the front garden - DONE
- Water the house plants - DONE
- Call the doctor's office, again - DONE
- Make a pancake/waffle topping with the few peaches I didn't finish peeling!

Thursday"s To Do List:
- Clean the kitchen
- Water the back garden
- Load of laundry (family room sofa dust sheets)
- Vacuum
- Make a pancake/waffle topping with the few peaches I didn't finish peeling!

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. Wednesday spent travelling - today is unpacking, laundry, and domestic chores. Please post a picture of"quilted" jars. I'm intrigued... Does this mean they have a pattern on the glass?

    1. Sounds like a couple of busy days! Take some time to rest in between domestic chores. :)

I will post a picture of the jars. They have a diamond pattern on them, that resembles quilting. :)

  3. Your canned peaches look wonderful ... won't they be a treat when you open them long after fresh peaches are past season, and you can have both a taste and a happy memory of picking them-I love freezing and canning ... although I can moan and whine pitifully about some of the prep ... but it is so worth it-I also have a dehydrator that I enjoy using to make dried fruits ... yummy snack when nothing fresh is at hand-
Good grief, it is really hot there- I don't think we have hit 100 degrees here yet (we will soon though) and today has been unseasonably cool-
It is good that you can get reliable pick-up/delivery service until you can feel safe to be in wider contact again-since we do live a ridiculous distance from any 'real' towns, online shopping for many things has been the norm for a long time, but dealing with medical issues is definitely something that is really strange when depending on communication by tele/video link- I think most doctors and dentists here are open again but scheduling is different and waiting areas are not used-
We are doing our best to remember the joy that Whitney brought us and know she stays in our hearts forever ... but there are times that all of us want to stomp our feet and complain- we will persevere though-
Take care- fondest wishes to you and yours-

    1. Thank you, Barb. I think they are pretty good for a first attempt, myself. :) I might try to do a couple of jars of "cold pack" peaches, next, to see how they turn out.

I've been wondering about dehydrators; I've dehydrated a few things, often quite unintentionally, by leaving things out on the kitchen counters during our summer heat waves! But, I haven't actually tried dehydrating to preserve food.

(((HUGS))) Barb. It must be so hard. I think it is perfectly normal to want to grieve the loss of a loved one and to mourn their passing. I know it took me a very long time to stop grieving after my mother's death. Take it one day at a time. I'm continuing to keep you and yours in my prayers.

    1. Yes, the vacuuming will wait; give the dust bunnies another day to play! :D Peach lemonade is definitely a good thing; I highly recommend it!

  5. Oh no. Your poor roses. They look how I feel when the temperatures rise. I am a rag doll in the heat, so I avoid it. That would be the best excuse to enjoy "lounging on the sofa with the fan on and sipping cold peach lemonade!" How you get any work done is beyond me.

A delivery of canning jars and oatmeal? Isn't it exciting to receive an on-line delivery? It isn't a surprise of course, but I still love getting things delivered to the house. It makes the day a little more fun. It sounds as though you are well prepared to deal with all that fruit you will be harvesting.

    1. I always feel sorry when the roses wither on the bushes from the heat. I like the heat, except when it gets into the upper 90s and the triple digits. Then, it is a little too hot to do stuff.

Yes, canning jars and oatmeal! :D I wanted icing sugar, too, and yeast, but, they didn't have any! I am planning to make lots of jam for gift giving, later this year. I want to be prepared with the jars when the fruit ripens. :)

  6. It is hot here and insanely humid. I think I want peach lemonade too!
The dehydrator is a great item to have. I use mine quite a bit

    1. Heat and humidity will drain you quickly! It is not that humid here and I think it makes it easier to bear. I can highly recommend peach lemonade!

Thanks for recommending having a dehydrator. I might look into getting one. :)

  7. Ugh that's hot! It was like that here for a couple of days and extremely humid and I hated it. We had storms come through and it has cooled down. I am loving being able to have the windows open again and a lovely breeze coming through!

    1. It's still bearable, right now. It's when the temperatures climb into the triple digits that things become uncomfortable for me. I'm glad the weather is more to your liking, up there, and hope it continues to be so. :)

  8. That peach lemonade sounds delicious! I will have to try it with some leftover apricot syrup that I saved. I am impressed with all of the canning that you are doing. I have always wanted to, but never learned. Congratulations.

    1. Apricot lemonade sounds good, too! Ah, but, you make your own soap! That's something I have wanted to do, but, haven't tried yet! :) In any case, this is the first time I've canned fruit in syrup. I usually make jam or chutney.

  9. We've had some hot and humid days here, also. Not so bad for me inside with AC, but I feel sorry for the workmen who are working outside our house. I try to keep Gatorade and water available for them even though they bring their own drinks

    1. Working outside in the heat and humidity must be so hard. I'm sure the workmen appreciate you having drinks on hand for them. Sounds like work on the porch has resumed?

  10. It's hot there!
I'd be inside with the A/C on that's for sure.

Your peach lemonade is a great use for the leftover syrup you made for your canning. I'm sure it was very refreshing on a hot day.

Sounds like a good deal on your canning jars. You are all set for your next round of canning.

    1. It'll get hotter, later! Besides, I don't have a/c! I have a small window unit for my bedroom, which my friend M will set up for me, later in the summer (maybe around August, when the temperature is consistently in the triple digits). I don't leave it in place over the winter because rain water gets in as I can't really seal the edges well enough.

I really like my peach lemonade! I will be making more!

I'm glad to have all the new canning jars. I'm looking forward to filling them with jams and chutney, over the next several months. :)

Hope your garden is coming along nicely. :)
