Groceries on Thursday

SPSH #12: Something that holds your favorite beverage

I was having my morning cup of tea when I remembered to take a picture for the SPSH prompt #12: Something that holds your favorite beverage.  I like my tea strong and sweet and one of my daily joys is to drink it from my favorite cup, part of a set that was a 50th birthday gift from my daughter.

In the morning, I received a phone call that the groceries friend R and I ordered from the Sri Lankan store were ready for pick up.  So, in the afternoon, I drove to the store and they brought the groceries to the car.  R gifted me with two boxes of my favorite tea, a jar of curry powder, and a packet of parathas! She is such a blessing to me!  In addition, I bought two boxes of frozen stringhoppers.  They will be a treat, with some homemade curries, for dinner, a couple of nights.  Then, I drove to R's to drop off her groceries, along with a couple of peaches and some curry leaves from the garden, and came home.

It was another warm day with the afternoon high being 97F.  I was cool in the car with the air conditioning on.  Plus, the car got a much needed run.

Later in the evening, I did a load of laundry, watered the back garden, practiced the piano, found room in the kitchen cabinets for the canned peaches, watched news, called the pharmacy to ask them to deliver my medication refill, and video chatted with my daughter.  What I didn't do was the vacuuming and making the peach topping.  So, that's on the list for tomorrow!

Today, I am grateful for:
- The Sri Lankan store is open for business
- R gifting me the tea, the curry powder, and the parathas
- My favorite tea was available
- The car started and got a good run
- Frozen stringhoppers

Today's joyful activity was driving to the store to pick up the groceries and seeing R, briefly.

Thursday"s To Do List:
- Clean the kitchen - STARTED
- Water the back garden - DONE
- Load of laundry (family room sofa dust sheets) - DONE
- Vacuum
- Make a pancake/waffle topping with the few peaches I didn't finish peeling!

Friday's To Do List:
- Clean the bathrooms
- Do one deep cleaning task/Clean the kitchen
- Errands, if any (did on Thursday)
- Vacuum
- Tend to the garden with M
- Make the peach topping

If I get it all done, the house should be clean for the weekend!  LOL.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. What a beautiful cup & saucer for your tea. It's also been our excitement to go for a drive to pick up curbside. Funny how things change. Fresh peaches on top of waffles, oh that does sound delicious. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thank you, Patio Postcards. Friends and family laugh at me for wanting to drink my tea in a cup and saucer instead of a mug, but, it pleases me to do so. :) I hope you, too, have a lovely weekend. Stay safe!

  2. I ventured out in the car today as well. I haven't put gas in my van at all through this pandemic. In fact, I have only gassed the car once in 2020 until now, so today I decided to fill it up while I was out delivering the card I made for "Dee". In return for the two cards I have made for her, she kindly offered me some turf builder for my lawns. I believe I got the better deal. I have been wanting to get some fertilizer to improve my front lawn. I will also aerate and put down some more grass seed.

I love the pattern on your tea cup. I have a collection of different china cups that I rarely remember to use. They remain "on display" in my china cabinet, but I just can't seem to give them up. Some day when we are allowed to have visitors back in, I will be serving tea in these cups and USING them. What is the name of your china pattern?

    1. I'm glad you were able to go for a drive, Susan, to deliver the cards and get the fertilizer and gas. I put gas to the car in mid March, just before we went into shelter in place! I still have 3/4 tank of gas left. I usually like to fill up when I get to 1/2 tank of gas.

Don't wait for some day, Susan; use your tea cups, now. Use a different one each day for your own tea. I alternate between two cups - the one I showed for my morning tea and one from a set that belonged to my stepfather's mother for my evening tea. The pattern on the cup I showed is called Old Country Roses, by Royal Albert.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. It's very pretty, isn't it? I broke the handle on one cup when washing it and I was so upset about it, but, my daughter bought me a replacement cup and saucer. :)

  4. Vacuuming is highly over-rated (like so many of those essentials that demand doing again ... and again ... and again)- I have a 'good' vacuum cleaner that does a decent job, but the blasted thing is almost as large as I am, so using it is a work-out- I had one of those 'light bulb over the head' moments and bought a roomba, thinking it would be good for picking up little sniglets of yarn/crumbs/etc, but all it did was frighten the cats and entertain the dogs- back to square one!
Your pretty teacup resembles some of the china I got from my mother ... she had sets for every occasion, and I have all of it sitting around in cabinets and needing to be either used or passed along- I would love to de-clutter and pass it on, but my daughters shriek at the thought (ha! just wait until I pass on and they have to deal with all this stuff they cannot bear the thought of having me get rid of it now- their sentimental attachments to these dust-catchers will change quickly)-
I have spent this week being one day ahead ... hopefully the coming weekend will reset my mental calendar-
It is nice that you and your friend can unite forces for grocery shopping ... I know she feels you are 'bless'ing to her too-
Take care ... the fondest thoughts your way-

    1. LOL, Barb, I agree with you about the vacuuming and other repetitious housework! I have a canister vacuum cleaner which works well, but, I need to buy a new belt for the rollers. In the meantime, I use one of the smaller attachments which makes vacuuming a bit of a chore. Too funny about the roomba scaring the cats and entertaining the dogs. Dancer is terrified of my vacuum cleaner!

Maybe give the china sets to your daughters, now? You could always say you don't want them in the new house! In my case, it is I who have the sentimental attachments to the china and various things. My daughter assures me that she will have no problems with getting rid of the stuff when the time comes! LOL.

Yes, well, the Sri Lankan store doesn't ship frozen foods and my friend doesn't drive, so my picking up the groceries helped her out, but, I was happy to do so. :)

I hope you have a lovely weekend, Barb and it helps to reset your mental calendar. Enjoy the extra day you've gained! It'll be like a long weekend! LOL.

  5. I love the pattern on your tea cup.
My photo for SPSH #12 is going to be very similar to yours. Tea is my favorite beverage too. 😁

  6. I recently found a Sri Lankan restaurant here in town, but not a store. That must be nice to visit.

  8. That teacup is so lovely. What a thoughtful gift. I just did some grocery shopping, too. Like you, I got the watering and some housework done today. I fed the plants compost tea.

  9. You are reminding me that I should get out our own Old Country Roses cups and saucers from time to time!
I've vacuumed upstairs after dusting but not downstairs as DH does that with the central vac. I did the horrid job of emptying the central vac canister and cleaning the filter (I have a spare one while the other dries) so it is good to go when he vacuums for me. Upstairs I have an upright vac. and I emptied that and cleaned the filter, too. I feel virtuous! 😇

    1. Yes, you should treat yourself to a nice cup of tea drunk from your Old Country Roses cups and saucers, Bushlady. Maybe we should do a virtual tea party, one day!

The downside of using ones good china is - accidents happen. I broke one of the other cups, today, while doing the dishes. I only had two cups left from that set (had been my stepfather's mother's) and now, I am down to one!

You definitely should feel virtuous for dusting and vacuuming the upstairs and cleaning both vacuum filters! I have a canister vacuum and vacuum bags, which I toss out when full. I am so glad I bought three packages of the vacuum bags when I bought them last! I still have 2 unopened packages (3 vacuum bags per package), so, I'm OK for a little while. Ha! I think I found my excuse for not vacuuming more frequently - I'm trying to conserve my remaining vacuum bags! LOL.

  10. The china your daughter gave you is so pretty. What a nice gift to celebrate your 50th that you will have forever.
Sitting down to a nice cup of tea is such a pleasurable thing to do isn't it?

Picking up curbside is a great solution to shopping concerns - I'm glad your
Sri Lankan store offers it and that you were able to get the things for yourself and for your friend R.

    1. It is a lovely design, isn't it? I used to go to the shop and drool over it, but, didn't want to spend the money to buy it for myself. I didn't want my daughter to buy it for me, either, but, there was a good sale, one time, and I agreed to her buying it for me, because, as she said, it was a special birthday. :)

Curbside pick up and deliveries are a blessing, aren't they? I'm so glad, too, that I have a car and can drive to do the curbside pick up. My daughter doesn't have a car, so, she has to depend on deliveries; we are blessed that her grocery store delivers fresh produce for a low delivery charge (if she selects a 4-hour delivery window; a narrower delivery window comes with a higher charge).

  11. Darling tea cup; I love any pattern with roses. All sounds good there. I think I need to get back to making a daily to-do list. The 3rd month of lockdown totally zapped my motivation. I need to come up with some new projects.
