Warm on Wednesday

First thing, this morning, even before I made myself a cup of tea, I checked to see if the packages my daughter had ordered (bridal shower and wedding gifts for a friend of hers) had been delivered, and was happy to see that they were both on my front door steps when I opened the door.  I had intended to buy a roll of gift wrap for daughter to wrap her gifts, but I was able to find the remnants of a roll of wedding themed gift wrap in my stash - I sent a picture of it to my daughter for her approval and she was happy with the design.  I was happy to cross that errand off my to do list!

It was rather warm, today (not hot; we were only about 96 or 97F; the fans were sufficient).  I did a load of laundry, cleaned the bathrooms, cooked the salmon steaks, and did dishes, but, I didn't feel like vacuuming or going out to put gas to the car, etc.  Instead, I watched some TV and knitted:

New Socks (SPSH #18: Something That Should Be Found In Pairs)
I knitted the cuffs with yarn that was leftover from the other pair of socks I knitted, earlier.  Of course, now I have more of the grey wool, leftover!

After I took the photo, I realized that it would be a good photo for the Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt, prompt #18: Something that should be found in pairs!

I guess I won't need these photos I took at the Autry Museum, on Tuesday, for this prompt, then:

Gloves worn by Stagecoach Driver "Uncle Jim" Miller

The display included his hat, boots, whip, and other items, including a photo of him.

Or this photo:

Gloves Worn by Tim McCoy, Actor and Military Officer

Of course, what I was really hoping to do was take a better photo of this famous glove:

Michael Jackson's Glove
I thought it would have been a perfect candidate for prompt #18, because gloves are something that should be found in pairs!  Unfortunately, the display had been removed!  I looked around in disbelief when I saw that the display was not where I had seen it on my last visit and went around the gallery a second time, just in case I was mistaken or they had moved it.  Then, I asked one of the security officers who was walking around and she told me that they removed the display, last week.

Today, I called cousin R.  When she called me on Monday, she had invited me to attend a discussion group at a church that she has been attending.  She had found it helpful and is now a discussion leader or facilitator.  She had invited other family members and friends, as well, who have found them helpful and are continuing to attend them.  They were starting a new session, this week (each session consists of 11 or 12 weekly discussions).  Cousin R invited me to attend and bring cousin P, too.  She said dinner will be provided free of charge, you eat first, watch a video, then, break up into smaller groups of 10 or so to discuss the video, ask questions, and so forth. I suppose the topic of the video will change from week to week. According to my cousin, they are meant to answer questions one might have about the meaning and purpose of life and so forth.  I looked it up online and decided it really wasn't for me, although the social aspects of it appealed.  So, I called my cousin, today, and thanked her for the invitation, but declined it, nevertheless.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter's packages were delivered without any problems
- Finding the appropriate gift wrap in the stash!
- A new pair of warm socks for winter
- Being taught to knit, at school, when I was in 4th grade (we had to choose between learning to knit or crochet; I chose knitting)
- Being able to postpone the vacuuming without worrying too much about it

  1. I like your choice of the socks photo for the scavenger hunt, though it's a shame you missed out on the Michael Jackson glove!

I was invited to join a similar church group some years ago but, like you, I decided against it. Appealing as the social side was, I wasn't interested in the in-depth discussions side of it. A friend went along and said she got a lot out of the meetings but I don't regret my decision.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I was rather disappointed that I couldn't take the photo of MJ's glove, but, I hadn't remembered that prompt on my earlier visit.

Yes, the social aspects of the discussion group were very appealing! But, I think I made the right decision for me.

  2. Those socks look lovely and cosy. With the beginning of some cooler evenings here, I should really think about knitting a pair myself. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. I think they will be nice and warm. I tend to feel so cold in the winter!

  3. When you say "grey wool" is that really wool or are you using wool as interchangeable with yarn as some people do? I find some wools (not yarn) too scratchy to wear, but my brother-in-law loves the feeling of all wool.

    1. According to the labels, both types of yarn I used are 100% wool. The multi-colored wool (color: "Welsh Coast"), was Patons Classic Wool, DK Superwash, 100% Pure New Wool, made in Turkey (original price $5.79, on sale for $2.27, per 1.75 oz/50 g ball). The grey wool (color: Gray), was Loops & Threads (a Michael's brand, maybe?) and, according to the label, "Undyed Wool", "100% Wool", and made in China (original price $5.99, on sale for $2.49, per 3.5 oz/100g ball; it was a better bargain!).

Wool does tend to be scratchy; my daughter doesn't like it for that reason (and the fact that it needs to be handwashed and dried, as she found out when she accidentally felted and shrank a wool sweater I had knitted for her!)

    1. LOL, it's what one is accustomed to, I guess. Plus, humidity makes a difference, too. :)

    2. The humidity here is very high, which doesn't help. Nearer 60F today, which is more more our normal, though cool for time of year.

    3. A daytime high of 60F would be our winter temperature and I'll be all bundled up in sweaters and socks and scarves! :D

  5. Those socks are really pretty. Grey is such a perfect neutral color for hand knits.

    1. Thank you! Have you ever knitted socks from the toe up? I've been reading about them and want to give it a try!
