Tuesday's Activities

It was 4:30 a.m. before I went to bed, last night, or, should I say, this morning?  I woke up at 10:00 a.m.  I thought I might have a nap in the afternoon, but I didn't.

I listened to some music (a Patsy Cline CD) and did the dusting in the morning.  I didn't dust my daughter's bedroom or the spare room, but the rest of the house was dusted.  Then, I had brunch (bread and chicken curry) and washed the few dishes that were in the sink.

By that time, it was around 2:00 p.m.  I decided to go to the Autry Museum, after all, and spent about an hour there.

Pathe Freres Camera used by Cecil B. DeMille and Underwood No. 5 Typewriter used to write the script for a 1913 silent film, The Squaw Man

There was a poster, nearby, with more information about the film:

Afterwards, I drove directly to the Armenian grocery store to take advantage of this week's specials, which included salmon steaks for $4.49/lb.  My daughter is coming home, this weekend, and I will share the salmon with her.

8/13 Groceries

I bought:
6 salmon steaks @ $4.49/lb = $12.24
3 mangoes @ 3/$1.00 = $1.00
2 peaches @ $.39/lb = $0.47
3 bananas @ $.49/lb = $0.49
Serrano chilies @$.79/lb = $0.12
4 Roma tomatoes @$.99/lb = $0.98
2 Onions @$.39/lb = $0.35
Turmeric (12 oz/342g) = $3.49
1 packet pita bread = $.50
2 cans (1 lb) pineapple chunks @$.50 = $1.00
Total = $20.64

8/13 Grocery Receipt
My August grocery budget is $75.

Spent to date = $13.84 + $1.99 + $5.95 + $20.64 = $42.42
Balance left in the budget = $75 - $42.42 = $32.58

I watched news, after I came home, and some other programs on TV and knitted.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter.

Today's joyful activity was the return visit to the museum.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Free days at the museum
- Weekly specials at the grocery store
- What I was able to accomplish today
- Video chatting with my daughter
- Safe drives (me) and bus rides (daughter)

Tuesday's To Do List:

  1. I have an alto voice and I've always said that I'd like to sing like Patsy Cline. She was country but not twangy. However, the goal hasn't materialized for me. Perhaps it has something to do with talent. :)

    1. LOL, I'm sure you have a lovely singing voice of your own, Live and Learn! But, quite a few of us would love to be able to sing like Patsy Cline! :)

  2. I was at our little town grocery store yesterday. Banana's were .99/lb. I passed on paying that. Walmart is .52/lb

    1. It's good to know the prices at different stores, isn't it? Occasionally, I'll pay a higher price at a grocery store, if I am already there, for the convenience, but, otherwise, I try to go to the store with the better prices!

  3. You had a very productive day and got everything on your to do list done. 😊

I went way over my grocery budget this month already. When I’m home I eat a bit more, and also try new recipes. For the next two weeks I’m going to use what I have in the stockpile and the freezer.

    1. I'm glad I got my list done, yesterday, because today hasn't been half as productive!

It's easy to go over our grocery budgets, isn't it? I went over, last month! It's good that you have stuff in the freezer and a stockpile to see you through for the rest of this month. The only problem with using up the stockpile is, you have to replenish it, again!

  4. I am enjoying reading about your museum trips. My plan for Wednesday went up in smoke and I am trying my hardest to line up a gerontologist to see Mom. Preferably before October which seems to be the closest appointment

    1. I'm glad you are enjoying the museum posts, Anne. I'm sorry your plans for Wednesday didn't go through. Good luck with getting an earlier appointment for your Mom.

  5. I went to our Armenian market today, too. I took the bus and bike there. I am always so impressed with your grocery budget. I bought some chicken breasts on sale, a couple of melons, and nectarines at .50 a lb. That museum looks interesting.

    1. I'm glad that you were able to go to your Armenian market and find some good buys, there. Now is the time to find all those great summer fruit on sale. I formed my grocery budget, several years ago, after reading an article that recommended a "bare bones" budget of $50 per adult. At the time, my mother was alive and my daughter was a pre-teen. I set my grocery budget at $125/month for 2 adults ($50 each) and one child ($25). I kept to that budget even after my mother died, because my daughter was growing, and later, increased it to $150 for the two of us. When my daughter left to go to Berkeley, I halved that budget, since it was just me. I don't consider it as a "bare bones" budget (I still splurge on various things, from time to time), but, I think I manage quite well with that amount, although, I go over the budget, every now and then! My daughter has set herself a budget of $100-$125 because grocery prices tend to be a bit higher in Berkeley. But, she does a lot of her weekly grocery shopping at the 99Cents store and finds good bargains there.

  6. What a good idea to visit the Autry museum again when it is free. There is never enough time to see museums properly, and they are overwhelming, but you will be able to get to know a lot more of the exhibits with regular trips and we get to see more photos.

This morning I looked out of the window and saw father robin standing on the driveway near the bush with the nest, his beak full of juicy goodies! He took a long while before flying up to the bush, then mother bird flew off and I realized that I could see tiny beaks reaching up! So the young had already hatched, right under our noses. To think that for a while we didn't even know there was a nest at all! This evening I went by the window and there he was again, feeding the young while mother still was there keeping them warm.

    1. Oh, the baby robins are already hatched! How exciting! Soon you'll be treated to the sight of baby birds learning to fly!

Yes, it takes time and stamina to thoroughly explore a museum! I am glad that I can go to this particular museum, free of charge, at least once a month. There are other free museums in my city, but, many of them are further away and/or you have to pay for parking!

  7. Do you find that not falling asleep until the early hours of the morning eventually catches up with you, even though you sleep in later in the morning? I know that it does with me and I start to feel very lethargic.

    1. That might explain why I am not raring to go, first thing in the morning, when I do eventually wake up! :D I get about 6 hours of sleep a night, and it seems sufficient for me. But, I really would like to reset my sleep schedule.
