Productive Thursday

Yesterday, I didn't want to do the vacuuming that was on my weekly cleaning/daily to do list.  I felt bad about not vacuuming, but, housework isn't really my favorite thing to do and I felt that housework was all I was doing, lately (especially after the flea infestation).  I grumbled to one of my friends that I didn't want to spend my retirement doing housework and cleaning!

Today, I woke up determined to get the vacuuming and other housework done.  First, I did a little more cleaning in the living room: I washed the inside of the front door, the white painted wooden shelves on either side of the fireplace, and cleaned the wrought iron candleholder on the hearth.  Then, I vacuumed the house.  While I vacuumed, I recited my prayers.  I wasn't trying to bless the house; it was my way of distracting myself while I vacuumed.  I used a new vacuum cleaner bag and tossed it afterwards, but, I think the flea situation is under control, now, and I might be able to vacuum more than once before I toss the next vacuum bag..

Later in the evening, I watered the garden, both front and back, baked another batch of strawberry-cashew muffins (although I left them in the oven a bit too long and they got a bit burnt!), did the dishes, and cleaned the kitchen (wiped the counters and mopped the floor).

I didn't do the paperwork and filing I had scheduled to do today.  Instead, I decided to do some crafting.  Since I had put away the patchwork quilt tops I was working on when the fleas were discovered, I decided to do some knitting.  I wanted something quick and easy and I was inspired by Stephenie at the Awakened Soul to knit a pair of socks, in anticipation of winter.  Knitting them was my joyful activity for the day.

New Socks

Today, I am grateful for:

How was your Thursday?  Do you get to a point where you feel like all you are doing is housework (or work)?  If so, how do you overcome that feeling?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Yes, I do which is why I try to get my chores done in the morning and then have the rest of the day to 'play'.

It's raining again today (Friday) and is much cooler so I'm tucked up at home reading, watching TV, and playing Scrabble online.

    1. I need to get used to doing things in the morning! I tend to procrastinate and wait until afternoon to get started and then, the best part of the day is gone! Of course, it doesn't help that I sleep until around 10:00 a.m. and it takes a good hour or two before I am ready to get going. I really need to readjust my sleep schedule!

Enjoy the rain and the cooler temperatures. A day spent reading, watching TV, and playing online games sounds lovely. :)

  2. I once read that no-one ever lay on their deathbed wishing that they'd done more housework. I am not a fan of housework and rush through it as quickly as possible. If ever there is something g better on offer, I decide that housework can wIt. I like a clean tidy house but I'm willing to accept 'good enough' rather than excellent. Joyful activity (whatever that means to each of us) is a very desirable way to spend time!

    1. Ha, ha, I can see myself protesting I can't die, yet, because I hadn't washed the kitchen cabinets! :D

I suppose feel I put off the housework long enough, back when I was working. I shoved things into the cupboards and drawers, to be dealt with later. "Later" has arrived, now that I am retired!

  3. I used to be a neat freak. At least that’s what some of my friends said because according to them I had the cleanest carpeted floor in the whole neighborhood. 😁 I think I’m not that bad now. Ha ha... I have weekly and monthly cleaning schedules, but I don’t always stick to them.

Is it possible for you to hire someone one to do big cleaning tasks, once a month?

    1. I admit to wanting everything nice and clean, but, I do have a rather high tolerance level for messiness! Maybe that's what is getting to me - the messiness - piles just seem to grow overnight! Yes, it is possible to hire someone to clean, but, I am not ready to do so, yet. It seems like I am admitting defeat!

  4. It's nice to feel that you have got something done round the house, but I'm glad you rewarded yourself by doing something more fun. The socks will be really cosy for winter. By the way, I don't know if I mentioned this before but it is possible to put a moth ball in the vacuum bag to kill any insects that happen to be drawn in. This way you wouldn't have to change it so often.

Well, the weather was dubious today, windy and overcast, so we went out into the screened gazebo and played a board game which took a long time! We even took a break for refreshments. It was nice to get the fresh air and it only rained one time, for a minute or two, while we were in there. Later DS and family managed to get a last trip to the river while I got supper, then headed home after we had eaten and cleared up.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I do feel better about things when I get some housework done. But, I'm glad I got the socks knitted, too. :) I think you mentioned the moth balls, before. I need to go and buy some.

I'm glad you got to enjoy a board game with the family and your son and family manged to fit in a trip to the river before they had to leave. Hope they had a safe journey home.
