Thunder on Wednesday

Horse Head Sculpture at the Autry Museum
Horse Head Sculpture from the side

I was finally able to get the pictures to load!  The horse head sculpture is at the side entrance of the museum.

Wednesday was a little cooler than normal, there were some clouds and some humidity!  Then, in the afternoon, just before 3:00 p.m., at 2:55 p.m., to be exact, there was a loud clap of thunder, followed by a few, large raindrops.  I could hear them on the fiberglass roof of the "patio" overhang, above my back door steps.  But, the ground was so dry that the raindrops just evaporated on contact!  The ground didn't get wet, at all!  I was so happy to get any rain that I went outside and stood in the "rain".  It lasted  all of 5 minutes and we probably got about 50 drops of rain!  LOL.

Today, I called my radiation oncologist's office to confirm my appointment, which, according to the date written on the appointment card, by the nurse, during my last visit, stated "Aug. 8".  But, when I called, the receptionist checked the computer and said the appointment was for next week, August 15!   Well, now!  I'm glad I called and confirmed the date!

Tomato Harvest!

While I was out in the garden, I picked four ripe tomatoes; a fifth one had baked too much from the sun and was starting to rot!  My tomato plants are not doing well, at all, in the heat.  The plate is a bread-and-butter plate; the tomatoes are about one inch in diameter!  Just a touch bigger than cherry tomatoes!

Today, I folded and put away a load of laundry (chair dust sheets), sorted through some paperwork, did some filing., and tidied/cleared the table in the family room.  I also decluttered 6 brochures/annual reports.  And, I cleaned the bathrooms (daughter's bathroom just needed a quick clean as no one has used it since it was last cleaned).  What I didn't do was vacuum; it will be on tomorrow's agenda.

Lunch was leftovers (rice, green beans, mackerel curry gravy, smoked sausage).  Grapes for dessert.

Strawberry-Cashew Muffins
At teatime, I decided to make some strawberry-cashew muffins.  It was cool enough to turn the oven on!  I should make a second batch to freeze as the milk I have in the fridge is starting to go off!

Dinner was a piece of toast with a scrambled egg.

Today's joyful activities included experiencing the rain and, later, eating muffins still warm from the oven!

Today, I am grateful for:
- The slightly cooler temperature
- The few drops of rain we had, even if it wasn't enough to wet the ground!
- My photos finally uploaded from the phone to the computer!
- Tomatoes from the garden
- Freshly baked muffins, warm from the oven!

Wednesday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- Clean the bathrooms - DONE
- More tidying and decluttering - DONE
- Paperwork/filing - DONE

Thursday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- More paperwork/filing
- Clean the kitchen
- Do dishes/run the dishwasher
- Water the garden
- Look up directions to the gynecologist's office (appt. on Friday)

How was your Wednesday?  What have you planned for Thursday?

  1. You're not having much luck with dates lately, are you. These things seem to run in threes, so there's bound to be another mix up with dates in the near future!

We're due to have more thunderstorms over the next few days but I have a feeling they will bring a lot more rain with them than yours did!

    1. Oh, no! I had better call and confirm my doctor's appointment for tomorrow!

Yes, I'm sure your thunderstorms will bring you more rain than ours did! But, I thought of you when it started to rain - remember how I had asked you to send some rain my way? So, when it did start to rain, even a little bit, I said to myself, "Eileen sent me some rain!" LOL.

  4. Oh my the muffins! I am having muffin envy right now. I love how when we have an ingredient like milk that is about to be bad, we create something to use it. I say make more and freeze them, then enjoy the deliciousness on a day that is too hot to cook.

    1. Sorry, Anne; maybe you can use some almond flour or something to make muffins? Yes, got to try and save that milk on the verge of spoiling! :D I did make a second batch, today. But, I left them in the oven a bit too long and they got a bit burnt! But, I'll still cut off the burnt parts and eat them! :D

  5. Ah, your muffins made me hungry. ๐Ÿ˜

I had a productive Wednesday. Thursday is also going well so far. Mostly preparing for the new semester, and some long naps ( basically falling asleep on the sofa๐Ÿ˜‚).

Glad you're getting some naps in among all the prep work you are
doing. You don't want to get too tired before classes start!

  6. That statue is amazing. I was basically stopping by to tell you that you are awesome, and that people are commenting how it's getting too warm at 75F. I thought of you and had to share. Hugs x

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. Always nice to be told that you are awesome! I'm smiling at the thought that 75F is too warm. I might shed my sweater when it is 75F, but, it's what you are used to, I guess. :)

  8. What a pity you didn't get a little more rain. It is wonderful to feel a soft summer rain that doesn't chill or drench one. We had fairly strong rain, which was not appreciated since DS, DDIL and DGD came for a visit and wanted to go to the beach. But we visited an interesting clock museum and when we came out, the sun was shining! So they went down to the river for a swim while I got supper on the go.

    1. I love it when it rains in the summer. But, we don't get much of that. Our rainy season is in the winter.

How lovely that your son, DIL, and DGD are visiting. Too bad about the rain, but, they still got to go down to the river for a swim, after all. :)
