Prayer Gathering on Saturday

I slept in on Saturday morning and spent a leisurely rest of the morning, enjoying a cup of tea and watching some cooking shows on TV.  Later, I cooked a big pot of dhal (lentil) curry:

Dhal Curry

Brunch was bread and dhal curry, which is a favorite dish from childhood:

Brunch: Bread and Dhal Curry
After brunch, I tidied and cleaned the pass-through counter.  It is looking much better!

I did some knitting in the afternoon - I started on a new pair of socks!

Then, it was time to get ready to go to the prayer gathering.  Cousin P came over at 6:30 p.m. and I drove us to friend F's house.  We were about 13 people at today's prayer gathering, all family and friends.  Afterwards, we all enjoyed the pot luck dinner of yellow rice, Thai chicken fried rice, roast beef, pork curry, chicken curry, green bean curry, and dhal curry.  For dessert, there was a gelatin dessert and carrot cake.  We all took some of the leftovers home - I brought some chicken curry and roast beef, and a piece of cake!

Today's joyful activity was attending the prayer gathering and the potluck dinner that followed.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in
- Saturday cooking shows on TV
- Being able to attend the prayer gathering
- Being able to give cousin a ride there and back
- Good company, conversation, and sharing dinner

Saturday's To Do List:
- Cook a dhal (lentil) curry to take to the prayer gathering/pot luck dinner - DONE
- Attend the prayer gathering/give cousin a ride there and back - DONE
- Clean/tidy pass through counter between the kitchen and family room (lots of dead plant cuttings that didn't root, after all) - DONE

Sunday's To Do List:
- Take friend R to pick up shipping boxes
- Sort through the last pile of paperwork
- Clear the computer table top (piled with stuff that should be recycled!)
- Change sofa dust sheets
- Load of laundry

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. I'm pleased the prayer gathering went well.
All your food photographs serve to make me feel very hungry. The dhal looks delicious. I'm back home now and I'm hoping to make the mackerel curry for dinner tomorrow. X

  2. That seems like a pretty good turn out for the prayer gathering. Are you still thinking about stopping them?

    1. Yes, there was a good turn out, yesterday. I think the prayer gatherings will go on at least until November, as Aunt Y will probably host it in September, I'll be hosting it in October, and cousin V will have it in November. The lady leading the prayers will be flying out of state at the end of November and will be gone till January. So, I am not sure what they will do in December. I am not sure what will happen, after that. We'll wait and see, I suppose.

  4. Snap ... I'll be making a dhal curry tomorrow. It's one of my favourites although I have never thought to have it with bread.

    1. Oh, how nice that you are planning to make a dhal curry, Eileen. Maybe you might try it with a slice of bread and see how you like it. :)

  5. Oh I love cooking shows! We don't have TV but when we lived in Europe I used to watch them and try to puzzle out the language, but really the food did the talking.
I didn't go far on Saturday, just to the mailbox since I didn't go on Friday. I spotted a lot of chokecherry berries so I may change out of my church clothes and pick some for jelly. But if my friend doesn't have company I may go to visit, after phoning to check. It's a day to relax and see what unfolds! Meanwhile DH is doing well on his trip across the pond, and I'm thankful for e-mail contact.

    1. The problem with cooking shows it they often make me feel hungry! LOL. But, I got an idea for a salad, on one of the shows I watched, yesterday - I am thinking of making it for the October prayer gathering that I will be hosting.

I hadn't realized that your husband is away; yes, email is a wonderful thing, isn't it? I hope you have a relaxed day and enjoy a visit with your friend. Take care.

  6. Potluck dinner menu sounds so delicious.

Bread and lentil curry! Yum!!! I wonder if there are any Sri Lankans who don’t like bread and lentil. 😁

    1. It was a good dinner, Nil. I love potlucks. :)

Bread and dhal or seeni sambol - I can never decide which I like better. I don't like pol sambol that much, but that was another favorite item to have with bread, wasn't it?
