Saturday with Daughter

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments about yesterday's incidence at the airport.  It upset me, a bit, but, I'm glad nothing else happened other than some name calling.

Today was a new day.  My daughter's friend came to pick her up to take her to their mutual friend's bridal shower.  After daughter left, I replied to blog comments, read and commented on a few other blogs, did a load of dishes, and cleaned the kitchen, including wiping down the upper cabinet fronts where something had splashed on them.

When my daughter and her friend returned from the bridal shower, my daughter's friend put on the dress she will wear to the wedding (both she and my daughter will be bridesmaids) as I had offered to shorten the dress for her.  There is a built in slip and a double layered full circle skirt!  I measured and pinned what seemed like yards and yards of fabric!  She tried it on again to see if the length was good.  It's a long dress and she's not sure what shoes she'll wear with it, but, she didn't think they'll have a higher heel than what she was wearing today, so it should be good.  I told her I will cut off the excess fabric and sew the hem, later in the week, and let her know when it was ready.  Tomorrow, I need to have my daughter wear her dress so I can measure the length of her skirt.

Breakfast had been a peach.  For lunch, I reheated some pot roast I had frozen earlier and cooked some corn to go with it.  Later, daughter made me a cup of coffee, which I had instead of tea.  For dinner, daughter and I bought some Thai take out and later, we went out to get soft serve ice cream cones!

We had been invited to the birthday party of a member of the extended family.  But, daughter and I decided to stay home and just spend time being together.  So, when cousin P called to ask if we were going to the party, I said no, we were going to stay home.  I think both daughter and I preferred that and we spent the evening talking about various things.

I've managed to drink a little more than 9 cups of water, today.  I added some mint leaves to the water and that helped!

Today's joyful activity was spending time with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Spending time with my daughter
- Her friend gave her a ride to the bridal shower and back
- Our favorite Thai food for dinner
- Soft serve ice cream cones!
- Conversations with my daughter

  1. Soft serve ice cream and quiet evening in. Sounds perfect to me. Glad you and your daughter got some time to just enjoy each other's company.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Often, when she comes down, we are busy running around and doing things; we don't have a lot of time to just sit and talk. It was almost like a stream of consciousness type of talking - we'd start talking about something which brought up another topic which led to another. I think we both enjoyed it. :)

  2. I’m happy to hear you had a nice day with your daughter.

I too am trying to drink more water. So I keep a glass of water on the coffee table, it makes me want to drink more when I see it. 😊

I have a cold, so I’m taking it easy today. I hope it won’t get worse because tomorrow is my longest day at work.

    1. Thank you, Nil.

I keep my glass of water on the kitchen counter, but, I might try keeping it on the coffee table, near me. Of course, I'd have to cover it to keep Dancer from trying to get to it!

Oh, no! I'm sorry you got a cold, just before starting classes! I hope you can rest and the cold will get better, soon. Drink some coriander tea.

  3. Oh, that sounds like so much fun. It's nice to have one on one time and intimate conversations with the people that you love.

    1. Yes, it was, Stephenie. I think we both needed to just spend time, being together. This was the first time she's been home after the Gilroy garlic festival shooting (she was there on the Saturday and the shooting took place on Sunday) and we needed that quiet time together. We talked, reminisced about the past, and planned a bit for the future. :)

I think you deserved a relaxing evening after yesterday's experience. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. It was! I told her some family stories that my mother had told me and my memories of my childhood; we reminisced about her childhood; and discussed vague plans for the future. :)

  5. Glad you had some conversation and hang out time with your daughter.
Sometimes I add mint cucumber and lemons to my water, or sometimes ginger and mint. It helps

    1. Thank you, Anne. It was good to just be with each other and talk. I like lemons in my water, too, and other fruits, but, not cucumber. Ginger and mint sounds interesting.

  6. You are doing better than I am with drinking water!
What a lot of skirt fabric to hem! Did you have any idea it was a full skirt when you offered? I'm sure you will plod away at it and do a super job.
I once again proved my theory that human beings, myself included, are inherently stupid. I decided to use an oversize mug and have coffee with breakfast, but the filter holder was tippy in the mug and instead of recognizing the potential problem, I went ahead and poured and managed to create a wonderful mess, fortunately not scalding myself. Coffee plus grounds are more trouble to clean up than just coffee - on my housecoat, on the floor, on the counter, even in a drawer! But I was so thankful that I didn't get scalded and I just cleaned it up and went on with my day.

    1. I'm trying, Bushlady. My doctor wants me to redo the lab test, next week, and I want to be fully hydrated to see what the results reveal. Hopefully, those higher than normal readings were due to the dehydration and not anything else.

Yes, I know it was a full skirt when I offered to hem the dress. My daughter has the same dress and it was when we went to buy the matching thread that I told her that I can do her friend's dress, as well. They've been best friends since 7th grade. :)

  7. I quite often drink boiled water straight out of the kettle, so like coffee but without the coffee added! I got into the habit years ago when I worked in an office and felt I was drinking too much coffee. I don't really enjoy iced water.

    1. I sometimes drink hot water, especially in the winter, just to warm up! I've also heard that hot water is better for you than cold water, but, I don't really know why that would be so.

    2. I was told that drinking hot water in the morning before eating will kick start your metabolism. I don't know if there's any truth in that statement though!

    3. Maybe I should drink just plain hot water instead of tea in the mornings, then! I could do with something to kick start my metabolism!
