Podiatrist on Monday

Today, when I woke up in the morning, I stayed in bed a few minutes, mentally reviewing my plans for the day; the appointment with the podiatrist was my most important activity of the day and I laughed at myself.  Back when I was working, I didn't have time to stay in bed, reviewing plans for the day, and an appointment like that would have been just one more thing to do during the course of the day, not the most important thing!  Life has certainly slowed down after retirement!

My appointment was for 1:30 p.m., which meant I needed to leave by 12:30 p.m. at the latest.  But, I left at 12:15 p.m. and I got to the podiatrist's office by 1:15 p.m.  I prefer to leave a little early, just in case the freeways are more congested than usual.  The appointment went well.  My feet were swollen  (happens all the time, especially in the summer) and the podiatrist told me to keep my feet elevated as much as possible.  I have a return appointment in two months' time.

Came home a little after 3:00 p.m. and had lunch - rice, chicken curry, green beans, and dhal.  Grapes for dessert.

Later, I put water to the garden, front and back; took the trash can and recycling bin to the curb, changed my bed sheets and did two loads of laundry.

Dinner was roast beef and bread.

Today's joyful activities were talking to family and friends on the phone.  Today must have been the day for phone calls!  First, there was a phone call from my sister.  Then, friend R called, and cousin P, and cousin R.  Later, of course, I video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The medical care I am receiving
- The luxury of spending a few moments in bed to review plans for the day.
- Being retired
- A slower pace of life
- Phone calls from family and friends

Monday's To Do List:
- Podiatrist's appointment - DONE

Tomorrow will be the second Tuesday in the month - the free day at the Autry Museum.  I am not sure if I will go or not.  I'll see how I feel, after I get the dusting and the grocery shopping done.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. I'm pleased your appointment went well. I'm also someone who would rather be too early than late, so I always give myself plenty of time to arrive at my destination.
I'm delighted to tell you I made the mackerel curry last night and it went down very well. It's delicious. Although I was so eager to taste it that I forgot to add the lemon juice at the end. I'll be sure to remember next time, as I'll be making it regularly from now on. Thank you, once again, for the recipe. X

    1. Free days are good, aren't they? I need to search for more free/low cost things to do/places to visit. :)

  3. Even though your pace of life has slowed, you still accomplish a lot. Sounds like you've struck the perfect balance in your retirement.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Sometimes, I wonder if I've slowed down too much, but, I remind myself that I am a "lady of leisure", now, and free to set my agenda. :)

  4. I had a very good Monday thanks Bless. The band meeting went well and a way forward decided on, so today (Tuesday) I am working through the actions I was assigned at the meeting. Once they are done the rest of the day will be pottering about doing whatever I feel like.

    1. I'm glad the meeting went well, Eileen. Hope the band related actions don't take up too much of your day and you are able to relax and have fun, afterwards.

  5. It is funny how the demands on our days change as we age isn't it? Except for differences in seasonal chores my days tended to be mostly the same. Now with Mom and her issues my day's plans change at the drop of a hat.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. I am striving to be productive, positive, and organized, but, often, don't feel like I am! Same with the healthy meals! It's a work in progress, I guess.

  7. Interesting how life changes and it is possible to make one appointment the focus of the day. I experience this, too and wonder how I used to fit in many activities outside the home at one time!

Today's activity was picking up the truck which had been serviced, and I chose to take my walking poles and walk all the way into town on the back paths and roads. It was a cool morning and the poles really helped me to keep up a rhythm and get up the hilly parts! Afterwards I treated myself to lunch out, and a visit to the charity shop where I got a bag of books for a dollar!

    1. Well done on all the walking, Bushlady! I'm not sure how long a walk it was, but it sounds like a good distance. I'm glad you treated yourself to lunch out and you really can't beat a bag of books for just a dollar, can you?

  8. I’m glad your appointment went well. It really sounds like the day for phone calls. 😁

Today I dusted my office. And I have stacks and stacks of old tests piled up in drawers. I need to shred them very soon. One of my colleagues, who retired recently after 30 years of teaching, told me it took her three months to clean her office!

    1. Thank you, Nil. Well done on the dusting. It is rather amazing how much we tend to accumulate when it comes to work-related stuff, isn't it? Good luck sorting through the old tests and getting rid of what you don't need. :)
