Hollyhock House Photos

I had to re-send the photos to myself, this morning, and this time, all but two uploaded right away!  One of the two that didn't upload was of the front entrance to the house.  This sign was posted in front of the entrance:

Sign Regarding the Tours (docent led tours cost $7)

Hollyhock House viewed from behind the chainlink fence that surrounds it, looking towards the pool and inner courtyard; the courtyard was meant to be used as outdoor living space:

The frieze running along the outside of the walls depicted stylized hollyhocks, apparently the owner's favorite flower, that she requested be incorporated into the design of the house.

I wish the chainlink fence wasn't there, but, I suppose it is needed in order to maintain the grounds.

The original owner's bedroom was located upstairs and featured floor to ceiling leaded windows; her daughter's bedroom was located directly below hers and featured the same windows.

The wing with the bedrooms was closed to visitors, but, I overheard one of the docents saying they hoped to open them for viewing, sometime in the future.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures.

    1. I thought of you, Stephenie! They had a few rather dried out looking hollyhocks growing in the garden. I suppose they would have looked better in the spring. :)

    1. It was a lovely house. Sprawling and quite large, but, at the same time, the rooms that we were able to see seemed intimate and not too large.
