Humming Bird on the Pomegranate Tree |
This week is going by quite quickly it seems. We have had more high winds, more wildfires, and now, there is rain in the forecast and with it, the threat of mud slides and toxic debris flows in the burn areas. However, we've had a couple of days with the daytime highs being in the mid to upper 70s (it was 75F on Wednesday and 78F on Thursday), which felt wonderful to me. Of course, the peach tree responded by opening a few more flowers!
I have been spending my days tending to things around the house, cleaning, cooking, and mending another pair of wool socks. I went as far as getting out my knitting needles and my favorite sock knitting pattern, but, I haven't actually sat down to knit.
Plans for Friday include taking Dancer for his vet appointment in the early afternoon and tending to the garden with M in the evening.
This week, I am grateful for:
- No new fires threatening my home
- I was able to postpone my jury service
- Working appliances
- Having electricity and gas
- M's help with the garden
Joyful activities have included watching music videos, phone calls and emails with friends, tending to the garden, spending time with my daughter.
How is your week coming along?
I hope Dancer does okay with his trip to the vet. I know it's not a favorite thing of his, as it never was with my cats. What kind of hummingbirds do you have in your area? We only have ruby throated ones.
ReplyDeleteDancer was very good, this time. He cried a little when I first put him in the car, but, he soon settled down and there was no fuss at the other end or coming back. He's been sleeping off the effects of the sedative the rest of the day, poor kitty.
DeleteI honestly don't know the kinds of hummingbirds we get here, June. I'm hopeless at identifying them.
Best of luck with the vets appointment. I hope Dancer doesn't object too much. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules; he was very, very good!
DeleteI love the hummingbird. I just noticed that the fat cage for my woodpeckers was empty and I refilled it. The nuthatches seem to enjoy the fat cakes, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. It let me get fairly close to it. That is so kind of you to provide fat cakes for your feathered visitors as well as the birdseeds you give them. :)
DeleteLining the curtains has taken twice as long as I thought, but I'm pleased with the result
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll be enjoying the insulation and warmth lining them will provide, Angela, even if it took you longer than you thought. :)
DeleteI hope the rain is helpful and a nice steady shower that soaks the ground. I'll be keeping you in my prayers until the risk of fires goes.
ReplyDeleteYou've been keeping busy - I should take a leaf from your book.
Thank you, Lyssa; it's supposed to start raining on Saturday evening and all day Sunday.
DeleteI haven't done much, but, the important things are getting done. I've been taking lots of breaks because I've felt stressed about some things that are beyond my control.
Oh, I hope you get those knitting needles clicking again, Bless. It is such great therapy. Darning socks is so satisfying. The rain is on the way…
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. I agree with you; knitting is good therapy. Yes, the rain is on its way! :)
DeleteIt's been very cold here and we got a bit of snow last weekend - the first of the year for us. So your 70 degree days sound wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI mended a bathroom hand towel this past week so we were both doing that domestic task.
This week I knitted on a scarf I'm working on. I need to work on a crochet baby blanket that needs to be finished. And I'm always doing my embroider/stitching. And reading. I'm reading a lot lately.
Are you still getting your library books?
I heard about the winter storms in the eastern states; stay warm and safe! Our high today is 47F, so that's a bit of a cool down, I'd say.
DeleteYou're keeping yourself busy with yarn work and reading. I've been trying to download library books, but, for some reason, the last three books I tried to borrow haven't downloaded properly! I'll have to try again.
Hope the rain appeared and gave everything a thorough soaking. The very thought of wildfire terrifies me
ReplyDeleteIt did, Cherie! We had some rain both Saturday evening and most of the day on Sunday; we are most thankful for the rain.
