Decorative Brass Plaque |
It's only the second day of the new year, and already, it feels like it's been a long time since New Year's Day!
Last night, after I had posted my blog post, I had a text message from K, my former neighbor T's daughter, letting me know that T passed away earlier in the afternoon with both K and her brother R by her side. It was expected news, but, still, it made me feel sad. Rest in peace, T.
Today was a sunny, warm day with a daytime high of 76F. Beautiful weather for January, although the forecast says we'll be down to the mid 60s, tomorrow.
I decided to clean the brass plaque shown above; it's one of a pair that hang on either side of the fireplace mirror. I use lemon juice to clean it. It is hand carved and from Sri Lanka.
Then, I cleaned the kitchen stove top, including under the burners since I let the milk overflow at the start of the New Year. Baking soda and water do a wonderful job of cleaning the stove top.
Aunt C called while I was cleaning the stove and I took a break from cleaning and chatted with her for a bit.
A short time later, a cup of coffee was accidentally knocked over, so I cleaned that up and mopped the floor in that area. Some of the coffee had splashed on the closed linen closet doors so I washed the closet doors.
Then, I decided to do a random act of cleaning and washed the nearby spare room door, the door to my daughter's room, and the bathroom door!
Daughter had woken up with some stomach cramps earlier in the morning, but, she seemed fine. She tested herself for Covid for the third time and since all three tests showed negative for Covid and her throat was fine, we decided that she doesn't need to be in the room and we don't need to wear masks when she's out of her room.
In the early evening, around 4:00 p.m., we went for a short drive to locate the medical building where she has to go for her podiatrist appointment tomorrow morning. The medical center is a collection of several buildings and we didn't want to get lost in the morning and end up being late for her appointment.
On the way back, I stopped to put gas to the car. Gas was $4.25/gal. and I put just over 10 gallons and paid $42.62. I budget $50/month for gas, so that was fine.
After we came home, I cooked a meatball curry with some of the frozen meatballs and warmed up some curries I had frozen, earlier. I cooked a pot of fresh rice for daughter, but, I ate leftover milkrice with the meatball curry and some sambol that friend S had included in the platter of New Year treats she gave us.
Something in the dinner didn't sit well with daughter, however, and she was sick to her stomach. She's been sipping lemon-lime soda and I gave her some saltine crackers to eat. I hope that whatever bug she's having will leave her system soon. She's supposed to be on vacation this week and she's been ill most of the week.
I spoke with friend R later in the evening and exchanged emails with a friend.
I did do some of the cleaning I had planned to do, but, I didn't do the sewing I wanted to do. I did crochet a bit, though.
I also received the good news that my mammogram results were clear. The detailed report would be sent to my oncologist, but, I'm glad that there was nothing to be concerned about.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter's Covid test results were negative
- Her scratchy throat had cleared
- My mammogram results were good
- The availability of gas for the car
- Working appliances
My joyful activity for today was crocheting. I'll be able to show a completed project very soon!
Plans for Friday include taking my daughter to her podiatrist appointment in the morning, maybe ordering some groceries, and tending to the garden with M in the evening.
How was your Thursday? What are your plans for Friday?
I am so sorry for the passing of your former neighbor. She was a good friend to you. I hope your daughter is feeling better, and that her doctor appointment goes well. Hopefully she'll get an effective treatment plan. And, how wonderful that your mammogram came back clear! Such very, very good news! I'm sure this is a huge relief for you. A blessing to start the new year.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. Yes, T (and her late husband) were both very good neighbors and we became friends over the years.
DeleteMy daughter is feeling a little better, thank you. The doctor's appointment went well, they did an x-ray and she received a cortisone injection, some foot exercises to do at home, and a follow-up appointment, next month.
Yes, the mammogram results are a blessing! :)
I have just heard from a dear friend that she too has been bereaved today. Such mixed emotions - relief that suffering is ended, but sadness at a time of parting. May those who mourn be comforted and surrounded by love 🙏💙
ReplyDeleteMy deepest sympathies to your friend, Angela. Yes, mixed emotions of relief and sadness. But, T believed strongly that she will be reunited with her husband and parents and I am hoping that they were waiting to welcome her.
DeleteYay for good mammogram results! I know that was a relief to hear. Let's hope that you daughter's podiatrist appointment tomorrow has equally good results with some way forward for her healing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June; yes, the mammogram results cheered me up no end. :) Daughter's appointment went well; she received a cortisone injection, they did an x-ray, and she was given some exercises for her foot. She was also told to start putting more weight on her foot and the injection should help with the pain. She has a follow-up appointment next month (yes, she'll stay down here until then).
DeleteI'm happy to hear that your mammogram results are clear! I hope that your daughter will be well for her visit to the podiatrist and that she will have help in regaining full mobility.
ReplyDeleteIt is colder today but the sun came out, yay! ☀️
Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, the mammogram results are what I had hoped and prayed for. :)
DeleteDaughter was well enough to go to her appointment and she received an injection to help her with the pain; they did an x-ray to make sure everything was fine and she was given a follow up appointment. I'm glad you are having some sunshine. It was very overcast here, in the morning, but, it's sunny now, in the afternoon.
So sorry to hear about T - sending hugs for the sad news.
ReplyDeleteYou got so much done! That plaque is gorgeous and must have taken some cleaning.
I'm glad that your daughter is free of Covid and I hope that her stomach settles soon. It's good that she's there with you.
And awesome news from the oncologist.
That was a very full blog post in a relatively small post. I'm in awe!
Thank you, Lyssa. Appreciate the hugs.
DeleteI'm looking at the second brass plaque and it is telling me that it needs to be cleaned, too! My mother would have polished all the brassware before the almsgiving and I can hear her voice in my ear!
Yes, daughter took the Covid tests just to be sure that her scratchy throat was not due to Covid and kept checking to make sure that she didn't get a false negative the first time. I'm glad she's here with me; she came home for what was supposed to have been a week long visit at the beginning of November and it looks like she'll still be here until at least mid February! :D
Yes, awesome news about the mammogram. I'm so happy.
There was a lot to write about, wasn't there? :D
I'm so sorry to hear about T. Such a sad time for all concerned.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope your daughter will start to feel better soon. She's had a tough time of it lately. It's a good thing that she's not been on her own. Xx
Thank you, Jules. T's passing is sad, but, I think she's at peace, now.
DeleteThank you for the well wishes for my daughter. She spent most of the day sleeping, but, I think she's feeling better, now.
Yes, rest in peace, T. I'm glad that she lived a long and meaningful life, with friends like you to mourn and remember her.
ReplyDeleteGood that daughter hasn't got COVID. Even so, hope she recovers soon and that you don't fall ill too. No bug is fun. My Dad gave me one for Christmas and it makes every task twice as arduous! Hope the foot finally starts to improve now, too.
The plaque is lovely (is it a peacock?). I don't envy you polishing it, but it's come up lovely. (Roughly how big is it?)
T will be missed; she fought her battles bravely and now she is at peace.
DeleteVery generous of your Dad to give you a bug at Christmas; hope you recover soon. Daughter tried walking with just one crutch, today, and did well.
Yes, the plaque is supposed to be a peacock and it is about 12 inches across.
So sorry to hear about T. It's a sad time for all concerned.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is having a bad time of things so am glad to hear that she is starting to feel a little better and also got some help from the podiatrist. She's been home with you for quite a long time now hasn't she? Can you see a time where she will move back permanently, or aren't there the career opportunities for her where you live? xx
Thank you, Eileen; yes, it's sad to lose T, but, she is not in pain anymore.
DeleteMy daughter is starting to feel better and the visit to the podiatrist helped. She's been home with me since the first of November. She is planning to move back down permanently at the end of August! We are both looking forward to that, as you can imagine. :)
I'm very sorry to hear of the news of neighbor T's passing. My condolences to her family and also to you and your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to read of your good mammogram results! Very good news. And also good news that your daughter does not have Covid.
I hope she feels better soon from this bug she has.
I'm glad she was able to visit a doctor here for additional medical care. I hope she will soon be able to move about as before her injury.
You were busy cleaning!
Thank you, Debra. I am going to miss the weekly phone chats with T, but, she was suffering from a list of illnesses and now, she's moved beyond that pain.
DeleteYes, thank you; very good results from the mammogram, indeed. :) Daughter is more or less recovered from whatever bug she had and she received an injection to help with her foot injury.
I get my cleaning done when I can! :D
