Succulents in the Backyard |
The winds on Wednesday weren't as strong as had been forecast and they were quite calm in my area. There are more winds in the forecast for next week, but, it sounds like the rest of this week and the weekend will be fairly calm. Hopefully, it will give the firefighters more time to get the fires contained.
I woke up around 8:30 a.m. and did some digital files sorting. I also darned another pair of my knitted socks; I think it's time to knit myself a new pair of socks as I am darning areas (the heels) that I had darned earlier!
I ran the dishwasher, tended to the garden a bit with M, and did a few other things, but, took it easy for the most part. Later in the evening, I chatted on the phone with friend R.
Brunch was a slice of toast with butter and some of my "no waste" peach jam. Dinner was supposed to have been ground turkey keema, but, I just didn't feel like cooking and so, opted to order some pizza! There's leftover pizza for another meal.
On Wednesday, I was grateful for:
- The calmer winds
- Being safe so far
- M's help with the garden
- Working appliances
- Water for the garden
Wednesday's joyful activity was tending to the garden.
Plans for Thursday include getting some housecleaning done.
How was your Wednesday? What are your plans for Thursday?
I really hope the firefighters manage to get the fires contained while the winds are calm. There has already been so much devastation.
ReplyDeleteMy plans for Thursday include working, then cleaning my oven. I also need to check the cat-flap, as it keeps sticking. Xx
Thank you, Jules. According to the latest news, the firefighters continue to gain control of the fires. Sounds like you have a busy day planned!
DeleteBoy, I need to do some digital file sorting! Do you do that regular sorting or just let build up like I do?
ReplyDeleteI try to do it on a regular basis, but, don't always manage to do so. I delete emails on a daily basis, but, I don't always move the emails I keep into their file folders that regularly.
DeleteLovely to see the healthy green succulents. Too many photos from LA show red and black. I'm glad the winds are calming down and I do hope that some progress can be made on containing the fires.
ReplyDeleteDarns upon darns! I have sewn patches on patches in the past!
Thank you, Bushlady. The winds are expected to increase, again, next week, but a few calm days will allow the firefighters to make more progress. Although, now, there's a concern about landslides! Patches on patches - no one can accuse us of not mending our clothes!
DeleteThose succulents look really nice. They don't seem to mind all the chaos in the surrounding areas. A symbol of how life goes on I guess.
ReplyDeleteThings I've done when darning - What are you using for your sock repair? Do you have any 4 ply sock yarn with nylon? That certainly works well. If you're darning with 100% wool, adding a strand of polyester content thread (if you have any)helps the life of the darn if it's an area you're walking on.
Yeah for Pizza! I started to make some the other day and while combining the dry ingredients, I realized I had run out of yeast. It's been a while since I made anything with yeast. The yeast has been purchased ad the dry ingredients are combined waiting for me so I think this weekend there will be pizza.
Thank you, Debra. The succulents are doing well. I've a few more waiting to be planted.
DeleteI am using leftover yarn. Mostly 100% wool, but, I have been using some acrylic, too. Maybe I should keep my wool socks to wear to bed and knit some acrylic socks for wearing about the house.
The pizza is all gone, now. We had the last two slices for brunch, today. I have not made homemade pizza in years! Maybe something to try this year.
Thinking of you dailly and glad for the calming winds (for right now)
ReplyDeleteI saw the news featuring the house that survived the fire only to be destroyed in the landslide.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts, Anne. It's terrible to have a house survive a fire, only to be brought down by a landslide, isn't it?
DeleteHere's hoping that the wind will die down soon.
ReplyDeleteYou are so awesome - you can not only knit socks, but can also darn them! That's a big deal. And I don't blame you for the pizza. Sometimes you have to get a break.
Sending hugs and prayers.
Thank you, Lyssa.
DeleteI must admit that I am not very good at darning socks, but, it does extend the life of the socks.
The pizza had been planned for earlier in the month, when my daughter was having some of her friends over, but, that didn't happen. I guess I was sort of anticipating having pizza and wanted it. Yes, sometimes, one needs a break!
The hugs and prayers are much appreciated; thank you.
I’m glad to hear the winds are calmer for you. I pray it stays that way for awhile so that the firefighters can make lots of progress. You just reminded me that I need to do some digital file sorting, too! I am way behind on that!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mandy. Yes, the firefighters are making progress on the fires but, the two main fires are only partially contained at this time.
