Dancer's New Year Resolution: Sleep More |
The first weekend of the new year.
On Saturday, I followed Dancer's example and slept in till quite late (after going to bed at 3:30 a.m.) In the afternoon, neighbor S's daughter texted and brought over our gifts. I had not sewn the table runner I was planning to make for S (the past few days since the almsgiving have been a bit hectic with my daughter feeling ill, etc.), so, I switched to Plan B and gave her some alternate gifts I had on hand (a red apple and cinnamon jar candle and a set of Christmas kitchen towels). I will gift her the table runner at a later date, maybe if we visit her for the New Year or maybe for her birthday, later in the year.
Later, I did several loads of laundry, washing all the blankets and quilts on daughter's bed. Then, I remade her bed with new sheets and the freshly laundered quilts.
Uncooked Blinchik from Neighbor S |
Neighbor S had sent some homemade blinchik (crepes with a ground beef or potato filling), along with some gata (pastries) and kuftha (a type of meatballs). I sauteed the blinchick for our dinner and enjoyed some of the gata for dessert. I froze the kuftha for another day.
Daughter did the foot exercises her podiatrist had given her to do and tried to walk with only one crutch. She managed a few steps, but, then, experienced pain in her foot, so, she iced it. Her podiatrist had told her to take some ibuprofen if needed for the pain and to ice her foot as needed.
On Saturday, I was grateful for:
- Exchanging gifts with S and family
- S sending us some treats
- A working washer and dryer
- Daughter was able to take a few steps without one crutch
- Exchanging emails with a friend
Saturday's joyful activity was enjoying the lovely treats sent by neighbor S.
On Sunday, after a relaxed morning, I went to the pharmacy to pick up some over the counter allergy medications for my daughter and a new bottle of Tylenol for myself. The Tylenol was behind a locked glass case and I had to call for assistance to get it. I had an unopened bottle of Tylenol in the cupboard, but, it had expired, back in 2023! It's better to be prepared and have new medications on hand rather than wait until it is needed, I guess. I had a $5.00 off coupon that I used towards the medications and my total spent today came to $27.43.
I made us some egg salad sandwiches for a late lunch after I came back. For dinner, I cooked some chicken thighs that I had in the freezer, sauteeing them with onions, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes with corn on the cob as a side.
I haven't been meal planning lately, but, I think now is a good time to get back to it. This is just a tentative meal plan of some possible dinners for the week. Brunches/lunches will be leftovers or sandwiches.
January Week 1 Meal Plans:
Brunches/Lunches: Leftovers, sandwiches, uppuma (Indian style cream of wheat), cup noodles, scrambled eggs, sausages, and toast or pancakes
Dinners:
- Sauteed chicken with vegetables (onions, tomato, broccoli, corn on the cob, carrots, potatoes)
- Rice & Curries: rice with leftover meatball curry, lentils with spinach, chutney
- Leftovers
- Ham steaks with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and salad
- Turkey and vegetable soup with toast and salad
- Leftover soup
- Pizza (on Saturday - daughter's friends will be over)
We'll see how that works out.
On Sunday, I was grateful for:
- Pleasant weather (afternoon high of 73F and sunshine)
- A safe drive to the pharmacy and back
- The medications being available
- A relaxed day
- A working heater
Sunday's joyful activity was chatting on the phone with my aunt.
To Do List for Monday:
- Take down and put away the Christmas decorations
- Another load of laundry
- Clean out the fridge
- Take the trash cans to the curb
- Water the indoor plants
- Vacuum daughter's room
How was your weekend? Are you making a meal plan for next week? What are your plans for Monday?
You have some tasty meal plans there. I need to make a to do list and tick things off as I achieve them. Hope your daughters foot is more comfortable today.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cherie; this week's meal plan is based on what I have on hand. To do lists are helpful as long as one keeps them to a reasonable number of tasks. I tend to make mine too long and then, I overwhelm myself! My daughter says her foot is OK, this morning.
DeleteThere's nothing more peaceful than a sleeping cat. Good resolution, Dancer!
ReplyDeleteI think there's a lesson in there for all of us! I'm looking over at the sofa, right now, as I type this and, yes, there's a Dancer napping there, right now! :D
DeleteThe food from neighbor S (NOT friend S ;) looks and sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely enjoy those items.
It's good you hand other gifts ready to pinch hit for S. And the runner will come in handy later in the year.
Gosh, Tylenol locked up. Is that something new for your CVS?
I haven't bought any in a while to know if the CVS here is doing the same with OTC pain relievers.
I have the end of a pot of black bean & red lentil chili that I drizzled on top of a vegetable omelet last night for dinner. (And then topped that with mashed avocado). We will have round 2 of that tonight.
And I'm currently making some soup. I had a bunch of broccoli that we have had for a bit and I wanted to use it so I put it in a pot with the standard onion, carrots, garlic. Added a couple chopped potatoes for thickening and I'm cooking that all up. I'll spice it up and whirl it with my hand held blender and we will be eating broccoli soup this week.
It's been very cold here. My sister is Maryland is getting quite a bit of snow today. So it could be worse.
Well done keeping the two S's separate! LOL. It gets confusing, I know. The ground meat filled blinchik was very good, but, both my daughter and I preferred the potato filled ones because the potato mixture was very well seasoned and more flavorful than the ground meat mixture. I think neighbor S's mother made the fillings and she's vegetarian, so she would not have tasted the meat filling to adjust the seasonings.
DeleteI think the pharmacies here are locking up quite a few OTC medications due to theft. It's not that new, but, more and more medications are being locked up.
I think my daughter would enjoy what you made for dinner, with the mashed avocado on top; I only like avocado made into a pudding. :)
I might have to try your broccoli soup - I have some homegrown broccoli in the freezer that I keep forgetting (conveniently) to use in my meals.
I've been hearing about cold weather and snow headed towards the north east; stay warm and safe.
Have a beautiful day my friend.

Thank you, Regine; wish you the same. :)
DeleteI get it - Dancer's word of the year will be "NAP"!
ReplyDeleteI must check and see if our pharmacy puts any Tylenol behind locked doors. Perhaps it is a really strong version with cocaine, for severe pain? The regular stuff and its generic version is on the shelf here.
Ha, ha, yes, Dancer's word of the year is "NAP"! With "Tuna" close behind!
DeleteAll Tylenol and generic versions are behind locked doors to prevent theft. Many of the pharmacies here have been subjected to much shoplifting.
I can definitely get down with Dancer's new year's resolution! Haha! A good nap is a good thing! I hope your daughter continues to improve. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteDancer is a very wise kitty! Naps are definitely good! Thank you, Mandy. Hope you have a great week, too. :)
DeleteDancer knows how to make a "SMART" resolution! You have some good meals planned. Today I made a basic plan for the week, although I probably won't follow it!
ReplyDeleteDancer definitely knows how to make a "SMART" resolution! :D
DeleteThank you, Celie; hope your meal planning goes well. At least you have a basic plan, even if you don't follow it! :D
Dancer looks very content. I wish I could learn to 'be more cat'.
ReplyDeleteJust like yourself, I have fallen behind with meal planning. So, now that I'm back at work, I think it's time to get back into a routine of it again. Xx
Dancer does love his naps! We could all learn a thing or two from our cats, I'm sure.
DeleteI'm sure you'll be able to get back into a routine of meal planning, etc., now that the holidays are over and normal work and school routines have started. :)
You make amazing food.
ReplyDeletePeople don't realise that medicines expire, but it's always worth checking the packets and bottles wedged at the back of the cupboard.
Thank you, Lyssa.
DeleteYes, medicines do expire or, at the very least, become less effective after a certain amount of time has passed. I'm not quite sure what people did before dates of expirations were stamped on the products they bought, though.
