Quiet Saturday

Saturday was a restful, quiet day.  I didn't feel like doing anything much, so I didn't!  I did water the indoor plants and I ordered some groceries to be picked up on Sunday.

The winds have stayed nice and calm and there is progress being made with all the fires.  All the smaller ones have been contained and the two bigger ones are partially contained.  I am hoping that they will be fully contained by the times the winds are supposed to pick up, next week.

For brunch, I cooked scrambled eggs and bacon, and made some toast; we had orange juice to go with it.  With eggs at $8.99 a dozen (there's a limit of two containers per person, now) and bacon selling for between $5.99 and $9.99 (depending on the brand) for a 12 oz. package, what used to be a simple breakfast of bacon and eggs has become a luxury, hasn't it?

Dinner was leftover turkey keema curry with freshly cooked rice and cucumber slices.  We had leftover brownies (from the almsgiving) for dessert; warmed up for a few seconds in the microwave, they were delicious.

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- The winds were calm
- The fires are being contained
- A relaxed day
- Being able to order groceries online
- Working appliances

Saturday's joyful activities included watching videos online.

Plans for Sunday include picking up the groceries and maybe doing some baking for the week ahead.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Our egg prices are up, but no where close to yours. However, that sounds about right for bacon prices. Today we are expecting snow, so I will either be inside under a blanket or outside shoveling.

    1. I bought another dozen eggs, today, for $8.99 a doz. Even at 75 cents each, they make a good, easy to prepare meal. I hope you stayed inside under a blanket although, I suppose, shoveling snow would warm one up quite quickly, too.

  2. Il mio sabato è stato all' insegna del movimento.
Con un' amica siamo andate a Milano a vedere uno spettacolo di danza cinese: Shen Yun.
Chissà probabilmente ne hai sentito parlare perché sta facendo il giro del mondo.

    1. Sounds like you had a wonderful day. I've heard about that Chinese dance show and seen commercials for it. It looks like a beautiful show and I hope you and your friend enjoyed it.

  3. I am glad progress continues to be made on the fires. The efforts are heroic and I'm glad the winds are currently cooperating.
Prices are crazy aren't they? You're right - little treats or a simple meal aren't really little and simple anymore when it comes to the cost.
Although your bacon and eggs sounds delicious. :)
I like very crispy bacon. How about you?

    1. Thank you, Debra. According to the news, the winds are supposed to pick up, again, tonight, but, we are hopeful that the firefighters will be able to keep the flare ups to a minimal.
Prices are definitely getting up there! I read an article today that said that breakfast is becoming a very expensive meal and, if you want to save money, maybe consider skipping breakfast! I already have only two meals a day (plus snacks - that's my downfall!)
I like my bacon a little less crispy. The bacon I cooked yesterday was given to me by my late friend A's family when they came to Thanksgiving dinner, along with a package of marinated frozen salmon (A's husband works at a grocery store). It was an uncured bacon and I have one more package in the freezer. I'll be on the lookout for a sale on bacon, next month.

    1. I think, in the future, I will be restricting bacon and eggs for a special weekend brunch or a weeknight dinner.

  5. What a relief the winds have calmed and fires are getting contained. Hopefully the fires won't flare again if winds pick up. I am staying in today, it is very cold (-5 F), enjoying the gas fireplace. But every so often I shut it off so the cat will cool down and not bake herself:) I am going to have a horrid gas bill! But I don't eat pork anymore, so I can pay for the gas from the bacon budget!!

    1. Thank you, Celie; the winds are forecasted to increase, tonight and into tomorrow. But, hopefully, the firefighters will be able to keep things under control.
Ooh, that's cold! I agree, stay indoors and keep warm. I laughed about keeping the cat from baking herself and being able to pay for the gas from your bacon budget! :D

  6. So glad the fires may finally be getting under control!
I'm lucky enough to be able to find bacon on sale quite a lot. I don't eat it but husband and older son do. Instead of the usual dozen eggs I pick up I got 18 as they worked out a bit cheaper - they were a bit cheaper than the price you paid.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the fires will be kept under control even though the winds are expected to pick up.
That's wonderful that you can pick up bacon on sale. 18 eggs are currently $13.39, which comes out to just over $0.74 per egg (as opposed to $0.75 per egg for a dozen); maybe I will buy the 18 eggs carton, next time. This month, I am already fairly close to my monthly budget and there's another 12 days left in the month.
