This and That on Friday

"Blue Aloe"

This is the newest addition to the garden - the "blue aloe" plant that M gave me earlier this week.

Friday was a partly sunny day with the afternoon highs in the mid 60s.  I spent a relatively relaxed day, catching up on a few things around the house and checking on the plants in the garden.

The peach tree has more flowers on it and I noticed that the bees have found them!  I hope the three days of rain in the forecast for next week, starting on Monday, won't damage the flowers!  Fortunately, there seem to be more buds waiting to open and they might open after the rain.

Peach Blossom

There were several hummingbirds in the garden; I think the crocosmia flowers and the aloe flowers in the front garden have attracted them.  I didn't have much luck photographing them, and my cell phone camera will only zoom in a certain amount.  This was the best I could do - the hummingbird is resting on one of the branches in the bottlebrush tree; do you see it?

Hummingbird

M was here to tend to the garden in the evening and he enjoyed one of the yogurt flat breads with some chicken curry.  Afterwards, he tidied up the garden, a little more.

In the evening, I made a couple of cards.  My cousin's younger grandson is celebrating his 5th birthday this weekend and he and his family are flying out from New York to do so.  Both he and his older brother (aged 7) are into Pokémon and I got them two Pokémon themed gifts.  I needed two cards to go with the gifts.
A question - what do a canning jar lid, a bottle top, and a dime have in common?  If you guessed they are all round objects that were used as templates to make the cards, you guessed correctly!

"Pokéball" Cards

I need to practice cutting out circles with my scissors!  Hopefully, the boys will not notice!

I had yogurt roti with leftover beef curry for brunch and again, with chicken curry and cucumber salad, for dinner, on Friday!

On Friday, I was grateful for:
- A mostly relaxed day
- M's help with the garden
- My scrapbooking/card making supplies
- Fresh lemons and oranges from the garden
- Working appliances

Friday's joyful activities included being out in the garden and making cards.

Plans for Saturday include attending my cousin's grandson's birthday party.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for Saturday?

  1. Hummingbirds are tiny, but I see the one in your picture. I only ever see them hovering, so that makes even harder to get a picture. I'm sure the boys will not notice the imperfect circles. They will just notice the Pokemon theme and that will make them happy.

    1. I thought I wrote a response to this, earlier, but, it seems to have disappeared! How weird!

Glad you can see the hummingbird in the picture, June. I've tried to take pictures of them as they hover, but, one needs a better camera than the one on my cell phone to do that, I think.
I didn't stay long enough at the party until they opened the gifts, but, I hope they liked them. :)

  2. I can see the bird and beautiful blue sky in your photo. There are signs of Spring all about now and I'm hoping there is no frost or snow to spoil the flowers and blossom.
I think the boys will be pleased with their gifts and cards and do enjoy the birthday party.

    1. It's always lovely to see the first signs of spring, isn't it? We have uniformly grey skies, today and the sun is struggling to shine through the clouds!
I do hope the boys will be happy with their gifts. Thank you; it will be nice to see some of the extended family at the party. :)

  4. Your plants always look so healthy! I have an indoor aloe plant.
I can see the hummingbird. You captured it nicely.
Your Pokeball cards are so cute! I love handcrafted cards. How do you decide what to write for the message inside?
Friday was fun, catching up with a friend! We had dinner and then just talked and talked—friend, hubby and I—until she had to leave (and dogs needed their bedtime walk).
Saturday morning we awoke to more snow, although it has stopped now. Both daughters had over 4” of snow 😬 but we got a little less. ❄️

    1. Thank you, Taconix. You might not say the same about the plants once summer arrives! :D
Glad you can see the hummingbird.
The cards were fun to make. :) I just write something to the effect of Happy Birthday, Hope you enjoy your special day, Best wishes, etc. However, if one wants a more elaborate message, online searches will give plenty of ideas!
Sounds like you had a fun evening with your friend!
Yay! More snow! The funny thing is, the boy whose birthday we will be celebrating today, lives in New York and he's coming to southern California to have a "Winter Wonderland" themed birthday party! Not quite sure if he realizes that he's missing the real winter wonderland that's happening at his home! :D

  5. The blue aloe and the peach blossom are lovely. I can see the hummingbird, it is cute when they decide to perch instead of hovering. We will have to wait a few months for ours to return.
You did a good job cutting out the circles for the cards. I am not familiar with this design, our granddaughter was always crazy about "Pusheen".

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; yes, I guess the hummingbird got tired of flying and hovering and decided to rest its wings for a minute or two! :D
Pokeballs are used to capture the different Pokemon such as Pikachu. My daughter likes Pusheen, too - a cartoon cat. :)

  6. You are so lucky with your garden. I love the blossom! Do you know what kind of hummingbirds you get? I love them. I didn't realise they were so small until I saw on in my garden lol

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I don't know what kinds of hummingbirds visit my garden! I haven't been able to look closely enough to identify them! I have a bird identification guide book, but, I'm rather hopeless at identifying birds!

  7. Is that a new type of aloe for you? You didn't have a blue aloe before M gave this one to you, or did you? It's very good looking.
Looks like the peach tree is headed for a good year.
You are very creative with those cards. I'm sure the kids will love them.

    1. Yes, it is a new aloe for me! The peach tree is full of flowers, right now! I am hoping I'll have a good crop of peaches this year. :)
Thank you! I wasn't there when they opened the gifts, but, I hope they liked the cards and the gifts. :)
