Scrappy Granny |
Remember the yarn stash I showed back in early July? No? Not a problem - I'll post the picture again:
Yarn Stash July 2023 |
I had put it away when I tidied the family room. Well, yesterday (Thursday), I had the urge to crochet and do something with all those bits of odds and ends of acrylic yarn (the small bag in the lower front right); I decided I will make a very scrappy granny square! The granny square I crocheted is 11 inches square and used up most of the yarn that was in that bag! It's very colorful and I love the randomness of it! My plan is to crochet up all the odds and ends and leftovers of yarn (other than the 100% wool yarn which I will save to knit socks) and make a lap robe/sofa blanket because, as I mentioned to one of my friends, one can't have too many blankets, can one? Especially in the winter, when one is trying not to crank up the heater and still stay warm! I will need a minimum of nine such granny squares to make a blanket, plus enough yarn to crochet a border right around it. I will make as many squares as my yarn stash will allow and then, I warned my daughter that I might or might not raid her yarn stash that she has down here!
That light blue yarn (in the bigger bag at the back, left), which is leftover from the blanket I crocheted for my cousin's grandson, made the second square:

I have decided that I will use the novelty yarns, too (in the bag, front left) and used some of it on a third square that I crocheted today:
Fuzzy Granny |
Joining the fuzzy granny square to the other squares won't be easy, but, I'll manage, I'm sure.
Besides crocheting grannies, I did a load of laundry today and changed my bed sheets. Walked for 15 minutes up and down the driveway. Chatted on the phone with friend R and procrastinated on doing a few other things I had planned to do! LOL.
Brunch was a salad and I finished the last bit of salad dressing left in a bottle; that's the second bottle of salad dressing with about an inch of dressing left in it that I've finished in about as many weeks! There's another bottle with about an inch of dressing to be finished, next! I didn't feel like eating any of the leftovers for dinner and I didn't feel like making the coconut roti, so I went off the meal plan, again! Dinner was toast, a scrambled egg, and some salami. "Breakfast for dinner" was just what I felt like having! I had a small piece of brownie for dessert - yes, I still have some of the brownies I made earlier.
Today, I am grateful for:
- The yarn stash!
- Being able to crochet
- Working appliances
- Emails and phone calls with friends
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?
Those granny squares are great! I particularly like the mix of colors and textures .A lap blanket is a good idea. It'll keep you comfy this winter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. Lots of warm blankets to snuggle up with this winter so I can keep the heating costs down!
DeleteI have never been able to learn to crochet. I knit (badly) but not crochet. The only time I tried, my granny square turned out more like a tiny yamulke/skull cap for a bear!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's funny! I, too, prefer to knit, and only know the basics when it comes to crochet. But, I can make granny squares and that's what I do!
DeleteLove FD xx
ReplyDeleteI am assuming that the earlier comment was from you, FD. :)
DeleteI love your fuzzy granny square. What fun! Good for you for still having brownies left. I don't think they would last that long here. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. It's going to be a fun blanket! It will use up what I have and then...I can buy more yarn! :D
DeleteI can't eat a lot of brownies at a sitting, so, I just have a small piece every so often. :)
It will be very satisfying to use up some odds and ends! Kudos for using the fluffy yarn. A colleague of mine crocheted herself a lovely fuzzy scarf and I wanted to copy it but couldn't get along with the poor visibility. I ended up knitting with it, which was much easier, even though I can't really knit! Look forward to seeing how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's good to find a way to use up all the leftover bits! I knitted several scarves with the fuzzy yarn and made purses, too. I think the blanket will be quite colorful when I've finished it! :D
DeleteYour blanket is going to be an exciting work of art when it is finished. I wonder what your next square will be like?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. The fourth square is mostly purple. :) I'm excited to see how it will all turn out!
DeleteThose are some lovely neat squares, Bless. And I just love the fluffy yarn. Is it difficult to work with? X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. The fluffy yarn is fine as long as you don't drop any stitches and lose the loop! It is a pain to unravel!
DeleteThat's a good idea using up your stash for a new warm blanket for the coming colder weather. Your gas bill budget will appreciate it and you will have something colorful to keep you warm. I will look forward to seeing it's progress.
ReplyDeleteHow was the novelty yarn to crochet with? I think it would be very fiddly??
Thank you, Debra. The novelty yarn was not too difficult to crochet with - I had knitted with it, earlier, and I think that was easier, but, it crocheted up well, too. :)
