Eenie, Meenie, Minie, and...Moe!

Make Room for Moe!

The fourth squash plant, Moe, made its appearance, today!  It's hidden between Meenie and Minie and right now, doesn't have any true leaves.

Eenie, Meenie, Minie, and Moe!

I don't know if Moe has enough room to grow where it is or if it should be dug up and transplanted.  M thinks that it might not survive being transplanted in our current  temperatures.  Maybe we'll leave it where it is and see what happens!

I had my regular check-in with my oncology nurse practitioner, this afternoon.  I had been prepared to be told that I had gained weight, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my weight was stable.  I still weigh more than what I should for my height, and I had not lost any weight, but, I had not gained any weight since my last visit, either!  Which is good!  My blood pressure was fine and, most importantly, my lab work results were all fine.  After my check up, I received my bone density booster injection and my next check up appointment.

On the way home, I stopped to put gas to the car.  I like to fill up the tank when it gets down to half, although, I sometimes let it go down to a quarter tank before I fill up.  The last time I put gas to the car was on June 14 and it was $4.69/gal.  I put $50 worth of gas then (which is what I budget for gas per month).  I didn't need to put gas to the car in July (I really don't drive much, these days).  Gas prices have gone up since then.   It's over $5/gal. at many gas stations, now.  I went to my neighborhood station where the gas was $4.95/gal.  It cost me $40.08 to top up the gas tank.

When I got home, there were three messages on my voice mail.  The vet had called about Dancer's lab test results (he has lost some weight; the thyroid levels are better, but, not where the vet would like them to be, she is increasing his dosage from 2.5 to 3.0 mg and she will call it into the pharmacy; I am to continue with the current dosage until it runs out and then, start him on the higher dosage; she would like to recheck him in three months' time).  The next call was from the pharmacy, notifying me that the vet had increased Dancer's dosage and when would I like to pick up the medications.  The third call was from neighbor S, asking me to call her back.  First, I called the vet's clinic to let them know that I had received the message and I will start Dancer on the new dosage once I finish the current medication.  Then, I called the pharmacy and arranged to pick up the medication on Monday.  Then, I called neighbor S and this was the result of that phone call:

Dinner, Compliments of S: Pasta, Cheese Burek, and Cookies

S brought over a plate of pasta, homemade cheese burek, and two individually wrapped shortbread cookies!  I gave one of the cheese pastries to gardener M when he came over a little later in the evening.  I had the pasta for dinner and the other two cheese pastries will be kept for tomorrow's brunch.

When I went to the door to accept the food from neighbor S, I noticed that there was a vehicle parked at the curb, partially blocking my driveway:

Blocking my Driveway

After I put away the food, I went out and took this picture and a picture of the license plate.  While I was doing that, a group of men came over from neighbor T's house, apologized for blocking the driveway, and moved the vehicle (they parked in T's driveway).  They were a survey crew, but, I don't know why they thought it was OK for them to block my driveway!  I told them that I was expecting a visitor (I was expecting M to arrive and he usually parks his truck in my driveway).

M watered the garden, both front and back and we transplanted one of the passionfruit seedlings I grew from seed!  I originally had about 25 seedlings sprout and I gave some to M.  Some of the remaining seedlings died when the temperatures soared.  However, a few seedlings have continued to grow and this one seedling was the biggest and had roots coming out of the drainage holes of its 4-inch pot.  We planted it in the planter that Lois Lane Mango had grown in.  Lois was laid to rest in the compost heap!

Today, I am grateful for:

- A good visit with the oncology nurse practitioner
- Good lab test results
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- Neighbor S bringing me dinner
- M's help with the garden

Today's joyful activities include tending to the garden with M and enjoying the dinner provided by neighbor S!

Plans for the weekend include some housework and reading.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. Yesterday (Friday) I went for a lovely walk with Friend Cathy and her sister. We did 6 km, so I was tired in the afternoon. I did manage to complete my July bills (not that I earned very much!) Today we're packing for our holiday, and I'll be cooking too. I want to take things to have for dinner the first evening in the apartment, so we can relax and take our time.

    1. That was a long walk you did with your friend and her sister! No wonder you were tired in the afternoon! Oh, how nice to be going away for a holiday! Good planning on your part to cook and take your dinner with you, at least for the first night. I hope you have a safe journey and a lovely holiday! Maybe you'll share some pictures, later?

  2. Glad your appointment went well. Did you tell the nurse practioner that you can't lose weight because the neighbors feed you so well? :)

    1. Thank you, June. Ha, ha, the NP didn't bring up the subject of my weight, but, if she does in the future, then, I'll tell her about the neighbors feeding me too well! :D That will be my excuse! When I decline the food, S sounds so disappointed that I feel bad! She usually says, "Your share is here, can I bring it to you?" and it feels rude to say no!

  3. I'm pleased Moe has made an appearance, I hope she does well and I'm glad your test results were all fine too. Dancer will feel better soon with the higher dose medication. Your neighbour has treated you to some delicious sounding goodies, she is so kind.
I have the same problem with cars and vans parking across my driveway. One morning a van was preventing me taking Tilly to her dog training session. The men were next door erecting a bouncy castle and told me they wouldn't be long. They were and I was getting increasingly annoyed with them, second time of asking they moved it!
It hasn't stopped raining all day today and Tilly is wanting her walk, she will have to wait.

    1. I thought you'd be pleased about Moe because it was you who said that I needed a Moe to go with the other three! :D
Thank you, Eileen; I was very happy that my test results were good! Yes, the increased dosage will be good for Dancer; I really like how this vet tried him on the lower doses, first, before increasing the dosage.
S has been more than kind, bringing me meals and it is a treat to eat something I didn't cook.
Some people are very inconsiderate, aren't they? Knowingly blocking driveways is a pet peeve of mine!
I hope the rain ceased, eventually, and for long enough for Tilly to go for a walk! Poor Tilly!

  4. I have the same thing happen here. It's good you noticed and took a photo of the vehicle and got the plate. I think some people do this on purpose. Now that I have cameras, it has stopped. All of that food looks delicious!

    1. My daughter was nervous about me confronting them, but, I hate it when people park their vehicles blocking my driveway! I need to be able to drive in and out without having to wait until someone decides to move their vehicle!

  5. I'm so glad your results all came back ok. I hope that Dancer's new medication will help. How annoying that those people would park like that! Wasn't there anywhere else they could park? My husband says that people are in their own bubble and don't think of anyone else most of the time. Luckily that doesn't sound like the case for your neighbours at least!

    1. Thank you, Sharon.
Those people could have parked in the driveway of the house they were working on. There was another vehicle parked in the driveway of that house, but, there was room for this vehicle, too. They just didn't think, I guess.

  6. Our cheapest petrol 91 unleaded, is just under $3.00 a litre. 3 and 3/4 litres are a gallon. MMmm... our petrol is really expensive in New Zealand....

    1. Yes, you pay a lot more for your petrol than we do for our gas! Of course, people here are complaining about the high price of gas we pay! We are spoilt, aren't we?

    1. Thank you, Anne! It's a win here, too, as long as I don't gain, although, if I could lose a bit, that would be better! :D

  9. I'm glad you had a good visit with the oncology nurse practitioner.
Hopefully the increased dosage of Dancer's medicine will help him to pack on a few pounds.
Those little squash seedlings are looking very healthy. I am excited for their future :)
Neighbor S makes another appearance lol
    Those pastries look yummy.
