More Harlequin Sparaxis Flowers |
Friday was sunny and a bit windy. I did another load of laundry, mended another wool sock I had knitted a long time ago, and did some paperwork. M was here in the evening to tend to the garden and we pruned one of the yucca plants at the very back of the garden as it was both too tall and going over the wall into the neighbor's yard. In the past, whenever we pruned this plant, I've planted the pruned branches and they've grown. I now have three or four yucca plants growing around the garden, so, this time, we put the pruned branches in the green yard waste bin. However, I might offer my neighbor one of the cuttings if he would like one.
For brunch on Friday, I made some "end of the week leftovers" fried rice:

End of the Week Fried Rice |
Leftover rice, a sausage, leftover cauliflower, some shredded lettuce, frozen green peas, and a grated carrot, a scrambled egg, and a handful of peanuts, plus soy sauce, etc. My daughter finished the leftover fried rice for dinner.
On Friday, I was grateful for:
- A sunny day
- M's help with the garden
- Working appliances
- Daughter had a fun evening with some of her friends
- A warm house on a "cold" night (42F which is cold for me)
Friday's joyful activity was gardening with M.
No big plans for Saturday. Daughter will be out with friends in the afternoon; I might spend the day playing with fabric.
How was your Friday? What are your plans for Saturday?
The fried rice looks good. I think we should add that to our food rotation. I usually make a soup to use up leftovers, but the rice would be a nice change of pace.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. Whenever I have rice leftover, I tend to make some sort of fried rice. Today, I made soup with different leftovers.
DeleteThe leftover rice looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteToday, I've done 4 loads of laundry, meal planning :), completed the weekly shop, and sorted my car insurance and breakdown cover.
I'll be taking Lily to tennis this afternoon, so at least then I will be able to enjoy an hour reading in the sunshine.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your fabric playing :) Xx
Thank you, Jules.
DeleteYou've had a busy day! Well done with the meal planning! I hope Lily enjoyed her tennis lesson and you were able to relax with your book. I decided to knit instead of play with fabric! :D
Your end of the week leftover meal looks really tasty.
ReplyDeleteI have a large aloe (not as large as yours can get though because I have to keep mine in a pot that can be brought inside when it is really cold) that has multiplied. I need to separate the newbies to give the older plant room to thrive.
Thank you, Anne.
DeleteThe daughter plants of your aloe plant can be potted up (they'll root in just a couple of weeks) and you can give them as gifts. You could put together small aloe themed baskets with some aloe lotion or soap and a potted aloe plant. :)
The fried rice looks and sounds very tasty. You could name it "Fridge dump fried rice", or maybe "Fridge offload fried rice"!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I like "Fridge dump fried rice"! Maybe, next time, I'll make a dump cake to go with it! :D
DeleteYour fried rice looks yummy! I don't know why I don't think to make that when I have leftover veggies! Hope you and your daughter are having a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mandy. Fried rice or soup are two favorite things to make with leftovers, depending on the leftovers. If I have rice leftover, then, it's usually fried rice. :)
DeleteThat looks really good. What a great way to use up the leftovers.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Fried rice and soup are good ways to use up leftovers, I think. :)
DeleteI quite like those flowers, even if the name sounds like a medical condition!! I shall look up whether they have a common name too...
ReplyDeleteLOL. I guess the genus name is from the Greek word "sparasso" meaning "to tear" which refers to the shape of the floral bracts. The common names include Harlequin flower and Wand flower.
Delete42F is cold for anyone! I'm glad that you can stay warm when it's unexpectedly cold.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa; it was cold enough for me! I'm very thankful that I have a working heater.
DeleteThose yucca plants are very hardy aren't they?
ReplyDeleteYour fried rice looks very good.
Last week I made egg roll in a bowl. Which is basically just a bunch of things in a pan like you do and then I put it over rice.
I had a pound of ground turkey I got on sale ages ago and I thought I should use it up so I made a pot of that. It was very good.
Yes, Debra, the yucca plants are very hardy.
DeleteThank you; I like to make fried rice to use up all the little bits of things that are leftover. Your egg roll in a bowl sounds good, too.
