On Sunday: A Birthday, Rain, and Earthquakes

Berry Cup

On Sunday, we celebrated daughter's birthday with a meal from our favorite Italian restaurant (curbside pick up which we brought home to eat) and some cakes and treats from our favorite local pastry shop.  Daughter selected the above dessert from the pastry shop - a waffle cone coated with chocolate, filled with cake and pastry cream and topped with fresh berries.  I picked a fresh fruit tartlet.

Daughter didn't want a party, but, there were birthday wishes from her friends and family and a visit from one of her friends.

In the evening, there was a very welcome shower of rain, which didn't last long, but, there's more rain in the forecast.

Later, there was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake, which was not as welcome as the rain!  The epicenter was fairly close to where we live and we definitely felt it.  Fortunately, is was not a big earthquake and nothing fell or broke in the house.

On Sunday, I was grateful for:

- My daughter
- Being able to celebrate her birthday with her
- The earthquake wasn't a big one and there was no damage
- The shower of rain we received
- A delicious meal and desserts

Sunday's joyful activity was celebrating my daughter's birthday with her.

Fruit Tartlet

Plans for Monday include taking my daughter to her physical therapy appointment.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  3. Happy Birthday to your daughter. The pastries are beautiful and look delicious. I'm glad the earthquake wasn't bigger. I think I would always be on edge waiting for the "big" one if I lived there.

    1. Thank you, June.
      The pastries were wonderful.
I, too, am glad that the earthquake wasn't bigger and I hope that it was not a pre-quake! Every time there is a bit of a rattle, I wonder if it is the beginning of the Big One!

    1. Thank you, Mandy. The pastries were wonderful. Yes, even small earthquakes can rattle nerves because one never knows if it is the beginning of a really big one.

Yes, thankfully it was a small earthquake. There were a few aftershocks, but, they weren't too bad.

    1. They were wonderful desserts and we told ourselves that they were "healthy" because they had fruit! LOL.
I'm very thankful that the earthquake didn't cause any damage. It was certainly a surprise (although we are always told to be prepared for one!)

  7. Those are really pretty desserts. And of course the fruit made them healthy. I heard someone say that carrot cake was healthy because it contained something from all 5 food groups, so we should eat as much as we wanted. The same can be said for your desserts.
Belated Happy Birthday to your daughter.

Yes, an earthquake. A relatively small one, but, still, there was some shaking going on. :)

    1. Well, as long as the quakes are small and don't cause any damage, I'm fine with them. They are a fact of life in California. It's just that we all live in fear of the Big One!

The berry cup was what my daughter selected and it does look good, doesn't it?

  11. Once again I have fallen behind with comments. Anyway I am glad that you celebrated in style and enjoyed yourselves. I would have gone with the lower of the two pastries. They look fab!

    1. Not a problem, Lady Ella. We did celebrate daughter's birthday with some treats. The lower pastry was my choice, too. :)

  12. Haha - as I started to read I thought, "what? no picture of the fruit tartlet?" lol but you didn't let us down!
Both look soooo delicious. Did you taste your daughter's? I think out of the 2, I would've selected hers --chocolate!). But it was a hard choice to make because I would've happily eaten your selection smiling all the way.
What did you have for your Italian meal?
Happy belated birthday to your daughter.

    1. Yes, I did taste my daughter's dessert, too. She ate most of the fruit, but, didn't like the custard filling (too sweet, she said). She has since discovered a bakery offering Asian flavors inspired desserts that are not too sweet and has told me that will be her bakery of choice for the next celebration!
The Italian meal consisted of seafood alfredo with shrimp and scallops and I had Zuppa Toscana for my soup and daughter had chicken and gnocchi soup. Plus breadsticks, which came with the meal. :)
Thank you for the birthday wishes to my daughter. :)
