On Wednesday

Flowers

I was asked if I would post a picture of daughter's painting; the photo she took of it last night came out with a yellowish tinge because it was taken under artificial light and I chose not to publish it.  This photo was taken today, in natural light, and the colors photographed better.

Today, gardener M was here to tend to the garden.  He watered the garden, tidied it up a little, and planted the last six potatoes I had left in the bag of potatoes I had bought earlier in the year since they had all sprouted while still in the bag!  It's hard to keep potatoes from sprouting when it is so warm.  Today's high was 94F (34.4C).

I made waffles and blueberry compote for brunch, today, and M enjoyed a waffle with the compote before he left.

I put in an order for groceries and picked it up, today.  I wanted to buy more salmon while it was still on sale and one or two items for Friday's dinner.

Later, I cooked a cashew curry and froze most of it for Friday night's dinner (left a little out for our dinner, tonight).  I also prepared a dhal (lentil) curry for Friday.  Later I cooked the salmon I bought and a pot of rice for tonight's dinner.  Daughter made a cucumber salad to go with it.  Neighbor S's daughter brought over four pieces of gata (Armenian pastries) and daughter and I had a piece each for dessert.

The New Area Rug

This is the new area rug I bought for $60 (plus tax, of course).  I think that the dark blue of the borders go well with my blue and white china collection and daughter says that the yellow bits go well with the brass accessories in the room.  I like the muted colors in the lighter area in the middle.  I think the rug goes well with my rather shabby upholstered furniture, where Dancer and the cats before him have sharpened their claws and shredded the fabric.

Brunch was waffles and blueberry compote.  Dinner was rice, sauteed salmon with onions and tomatoes, cucumber salad, and tomato chutney.  Snacks included cherries and gata (Armenian pastries).

On Wednesday, I was grateful for:

- M's help with the garden
- Being able to order groceries online and contactless pick up
- A safe drive to the grocery store and back
- Neighbors bringing gata (Armenian pastries)
- Daughter doing the dishes

Today's joyful activities included gardening and reading.

Plans for tomorrow include going to watch a fireworks display with daughter and friends.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?  What are your plans to celebrate the 4th of July/American Independence Day?

  1. Happy 4th of July Bless. Your daughter is very talented her painting is superb. I do like your rug very similar to mine but mine are in red to match the carpet. Waffles with blueberry compote sound delicious.
We will going to cast our votes today in the general election and then off to do a bit of clothes shopping, I want another pair of summer trousers, the ones I bought online last year were terrible quality sadly only discovered after wearing them.

I hope your elections go the way you'd like them to!
Enjoy your clothes shopping. Yes, the problem with buying clothing (and shoes) online is you really can't tell the quality or the feel of the material and how it fits.

  2. It's a lovely rug - and I like its" faded beauty" - it doesn't look brand spanking new, even if it is!
Your daughter is very talented. I like her painting. It must be good to have her visiting. Love FD xx

    1. Thank you, FD. Yes, the rug looks like it has been in place for a long time, doesn't it? It's lovely to have daughter visiting. :)

  3. Thanks for sharing your daughter's picture. You both painted bright, cheery pictures of flowers - one of my favorite subjects. I like the colors in your new rug and it sounds like it goes perfectly in your room.

    1. Thank you, June. I, too, love flowers. :) I'm very happy with the rug and Dancer has given it his seal of approval - he takes a nap on it every evening!

  4. Your daughter paints beautifully!
I love your area rug. The style of it goes well with your house and it looks like an antique shop find.
We aren’t going into the city to watch the fireworks tonight. We’ll enjoy whatever we see locally. Our dogs have both lost some hearing which makes them less anxious around loud noises. Daughter is back in Philadelphia for Independence Day. The streets around her apartment are closed to traffic today in advance of the Ke$ha concert, so daughter drove home last night. She’s excited about the concert and celebrating her last Philly 4th of July.
    Happy Independence Day America. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I'm very pleased with my rug and how it looks in place. :)
I'm glad your daughter made it back to her home safely and gets to enjoy 4th of July with her friends. I'm sure you are wise to stay at home with the dogs and avoid the crowds in the city. :)

  5. I like the painting and the rug. Well, I thought Dancer was too well behaved to have sharpened his claws on your upholstery the way our cats used to! But I guess it is a cat thing! 😻

Oh, yes, it's a cat thing! Even when there are scratching posts available, we still have to shred the sofas!

  6. Your daughter's painting is beautiful. The different shades of the flowers are so pretty.
And your new rug looks really lovely. Did you have anything else there beforehand?
    Happy Fourth, Bless! Xx

I used to have a rug in the living room a long time ago, but, the floor had been bare for at least the last 10 years, if not longer. I didn't find a rug that I liked at a price that I liked, until now.

  7. Your daughter is very talented. Her painting is lovely! The rug is also leaking belt. It's not at all what I would expect to find at a craft store! It's very classic. It goes well in your room. It's been stormy here so most festivities and fireworks are cancelled - not that I'd go anyway! I hope you have a good 4th.

Yes, I didn't expect to find area rugs in the craft store, but, there they were!
I'm sorry it's stormy there and most of the festivities have been cancelled. I normally don't go to watch fireworks displays, etc., but, this time, my late friend's daughters have invited my daughter and me to watch a fireworks show with them. As it would have been their mother's birthday, today, I agreed to go (it's outdoors and I will wear a mask).

    2. Oops, I should have proofed my comment! I meant the rug is also lovely, not "leaking belt". Autocorrect can be bizarre! I hope you enjoy watching the fireworks.

    3. LOL, I wondered if "leaky belt" was a new slang term, sort of the modern version of "the cat's meow"! :D I really enjoyed the fireworks and the concert that preceded it. :)

I also like the colors your new rug. Celie’s autocorrected ‘leaking belt’ made me chuckle, after seeing her second comment. I too thought it was a new slang term. 😁

Maybe if we all start using "leaking belt" to describe something nice, it might catch on! Wouldn't that be funny?

  9. The rug looks really pretty in your room. You must be so pleased with it.
Your salmon sounds delicious the way you prepared it.
Another pretty picture to lead us off!

    1. Thank you, Debra. I am very happy with the rug. The colors, design, and the price were just what I was looking for! :D
Salmon sauteed with onions, garlic (or garlic powder) and tomatoes is my daughter's favorite. Sometimes, I add a little teriyaki sauce.

  10. The painting is great - cosmos? From imagination, or copied from a photo?
I also think the rug is leaking belt. Definitely LOTS of belt! On that matter, I was lying in bed the other night (having read this post previously) and wondering about the concept of area rug, as opposed to just a rug. I was trying to think what other kinds of rugs there might be and could only think of possibly "hearthrug". Is it simply a term to imply a large rug or is there some special meaning behind it? We just call everything "rugs" - as opposed to (fitted) carpets. Similarly I suppose when you say "space heater" you just mean a small (or maybe portable) heater, as opposed to central heating or fireplace? Genuinely interested...

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. My daughter got her inspiration for the painting from another painting, although her end result looked very different from the other painting, and not exactly a copy. She said she just painted flowers, but, I, too, think they look like cosmos, especially with the feathery leaves added. I love cosmos and she left the painting with me, although she was originally planning to take it back to her apartment with her.

Ha, ha, thank you for thinking my rug is leaking belt! :D
Let's see - I think a carpet is at least room sized, if not actually fitted, as in wall-to-wall carpeting.
An area rug is a smaller, bound piece of carpeting, that is used to define a space or an area and will often anchor a seating arrangement. Back when I had wall-to-wall fitted carpets throughout the house, I had a fairly large (about 10' by 12') room sized area rug in the living room, to visually define it from the rest of the space, which was the dining area.
Other types of rugs might include stair runners or hallway runners, but, they are long and narrow and aren't usually called area rugs. There are also smaller (about 2'x3' or 4') rugs, often woven with strips of fabric, that are used in the kitchen, which I just call kitchen rugs!
Yes, what I call a space heater is a small, portable, electric heater that you plug in to warm up a room or a small space. In the winter, I often keep one close to where I sit, focused on me, to keep warm, rather than try to warm up the entire house to a degree that feels comfortable to me.
