The First Weekend of Autumn

Sunday's Flower Arrangement

The first weekend of autumn was sunny and warm!  I approve!

On Saturday, I did a small flower arrangement with a rose and some greenery from the garden as one of my autumn joyful activities.  My plan was to do at least one flower arrangement each month.  However, later in the afternoon, neighbor S called to let me know that she was making some cheese filled puff pastries (burek) and also, she was making harissa chicken with yarma (cracked wheat) and would I like to have some?  I haven't tried harissa chicken or yarma, so, I said I'd like to try some and of course, I love her puff pastries!  She asked if I could come over to her house to pick up the food and I said yes.  Then, I wondered what I could take for her as a little thank you gift.  As you know, she's always giving me some of the delicious food she and her family make.  So, when the time came to pick up the food, I took her the little flower arrangement I had made.  She was very pleased with the little bouquet.

And this is the feast she sent home with me:

Saturday Dinner - Compliments of Neighbor S

Harissa chicken and yarma in the square container (enough for several meals!), two bowls of salad to go with it, two cheese burek/puff pastries, and a cherry Danish for dessert!  Oh, my!  I had one of the bowls of salad and some of the harissa chicken and cracked wheat for dinner on Saturday (it was very delicious - spicy without being too hot) and the cherry Danish for dessert!

Today (Sunday), I thought the blue vase should have another flower arrangement, so, picked more flowers (roses, gazania, and plumbago) and some greenery and made a new flower arrangement!

Later in the afternoon, I settled down to mend the quilt I had been mending earlier - I had put it aside for several weeks during the summer, when it became too hot to be sitting with a lapful of quilt!  As usual, a certain kitty decided I needed his help:

Mending Quilts with Dancer

Thank you for your help, Dancer!

This weekend, I was grateful for:
- Sunny warm days
- Neighbor S sharing some delicious food with me
- Flowers from the garden
- Phone calls and emails from family and friends
- Dancer's help with the quilt mending!

The weekend's joyful activities included doing a couple of flower arrangements, enjoying a delicious dinner compliments of neighbor S, being out in the garden, and sewing with Dancer!

On the To Do List for Monday:
- Meal planning
- Laundry
- Paperwork
- Taking the trash cans to the curb
- Ordering and picking up groceries

How was your weekend?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. The meal from your neighbour looks lovely, she is so kind and generous and that was a nice gift of the flowers you gave to her they do look nice. Dancer makes sure he helps with your mending tasks and he does such a good job, I think he's looking for your approval :-)

    1. It was a lovely meal and yes, neighbor S is very kind and generous, isn't she? I felt that the flowers were quite inadequate, but, it was just about the only thing I had on hand to give her! Dancer is a very helpful cat! He loves to help with the quilting and mending! LOL.

    1. Yes, it was! It almost reminded me of a curry (I could taste some cumin in the dish), but, it wasn't a curry. I would like to try a roast chicken with harissa seasoning; I think that would be good, too.

  3. A really lovely floral arrangement. What a great thing to include in your joyful Autumn activities. Having Dancer assist & approve any changes in the quilt repairs seems to be necessary for anyone's peace of mind (col). Your garden post for the other day shows your planning (along with M's help) is paying off to have blooms at every season.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I love having fresh flowers in the house. Dancer's help with quilt mending, etc., is invaluable! :D He was fast asleep when I started to sew, but, not even two minutes later, he was there to see what was going on! Yes, I do have flowers year round! Such a blessing, isn't it?

  4. Goodness me! How generous of your neighbour. She sounds such a good cook too. My Monday is going to be taken up with ironing! I hate ironing, so I leave it, and leave it...and now I have an ENORMOUS pile to do. I've done some lesson preparation, and some weekly tasks (meal planning, my to-do list, the church FB page...) Love FD xx

    1. My neighbor is so kind and generous! She and her family are all good cooks and I am very blessed to have her as a neighbor and a friend. Sounds like you've a busy Monday! I don't do a lot of ironing, myself, but, there are some cotton items that do require ironing to look their best.

  5. Cats are SO helpful aren't they. :-)

What a lovely array of food, and so mice of you to take her the flowers as a little 'thank you'. I'm sure they brightened her day. xx

It was a lovely meal and I felt that my little bouquet of flowers was rather inadequate, but, my neighbor was very happy with it. :)

  6. That should of course, be 'nice' and not 'mice' ... although I'm sure Dancer would prefer the latter!!

    1. LOL; I wonder if Dancer would even know what to do with a mouse! He does like to play with the occasional lizard that wanders into the house!

    1. Not much, June, unless it is my daughter to share the food. I'm freezing some of the harissa chicken and wheat dish for her to try when she visits in November. :)

  13. That is quite the feast that S provided. I'm glad to see you had some salad with it. Dancer seems to be about to "say" something! Perhaps you are not supposed to move the quilt at all while he is inspecting it?

    1. Yes, definitely a feast! And a complete meal with salad, main course, and dessert! I still have some leftovers! I think Dancer was saying, "Is this pose better?", because I took a few others before I took this one. :)

  14. I think sharing the flowers was a wonderful trade for such delicious looking food. I need to move to your neighborhood! Oh and I have found a fix for the commenting issue (at least for now)
