Autumn Rose |
Today, Saturday, September 23, 2023, is the first day of Autumn (or Fall as it is usually called here), according to what I've read online. It has been a lovely, sunny, and warm day (77F/25C) which, as most of you know, makes me happy! I like sunny warm days! The change in the seasons when we go from summer to autumn seems to affect me more than any other and cool, overcast days tend to get me down.
I've decided that it is time to make a list of joyful activities to look forward to, this autumn. I first did a list of joyful activities back in 2016 and I did a few more seasonal or monthly joyful activities after that. Then, I stopped doing that, for a couple of years; I think the last one I did was in January, 2021. There had been some discussions with my daughter where she had said that joyful activities should be a daily thing and I've been listing those in my daily blog postings. But, often, the daily joyful activities are things like being out in the garden or, chatting with family and friends. I think I am feeling the need for some, more intentional, joyful activities.
Here's my list and it starts from today and goes on till Thanksgiving:
Autumn Joyful Activities:
- Do a monthly flower arrangement with garden flowers and/or greenery
- Spend some time outside, daily (aches and pains and weather permitting)
- Spend some time reading
- Do a fun craft project: make a new fall wreath
- Play with fabric or yarn
- Make a card or two
- Do some scrapbooking
- Plant a fall/cool weather garden
- Play more music
- Decorate for Fall/Thanksgiving
- Bake a treat (pie, cake, muffins, cookies, etc.)
- Light a scented candle some evenings
I think that is a nice, manageable list of joyful activities, don't you?
What would be some of your joyful autumn activities?
That is a good list of joyful activities and your daughter is right that we should find joy in what we do each day. I like the play more music something I should do.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. Yes, I do try to find joy in what I do on a daily basis, but, I also want to engage in more joyful activities, as well.
DeleteWhat a great idea. I was just thinking of doing something similar for January and February, as they are the months when I usually struggle.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to go on some walks, enjoying the shades of autumn. 🍂
Thank you, Jules. Maybe you can do a small autumn joy list, too, and add those walks to it. There's very little in the way of leaves turning color in my area (one has to go further north or up to the mountains to enjoy that), but, the leaves on the peach tree and the nectarine tree will turn yellow, later on. I shall look forward to that!
DeleteWhile it is important to enjoy everyday activities, I think it is also important to purposefully plan a few activities you enjoy that are different than what you do every day. I think it might be time to do a list like yours for me.
ReplyDeleteExactly, June. While I enjoy being at home and find joy in my daily activities, I think I need to plan a few fun activities to look forward to. Especially since I am not going places or joining in many social activities, these days. I'd love to see the list you come up with, if you decide to make one. :)
DeleteI would love to light a nice smelling candle, but unfortunately my son and husband act like I am trying to gas them whenever I have done so in the past! I do have a lovely smelling cook's candle, which is supposed to get rid of kitchen smells, so sometimes I light that - not always when it is strictly needed ; ) I enjoy planting bulbs for Springtime colour and foraging for goodies in the local hedgerows. I also find that I have a bit more time for selfcare once the nights start drawing in, which is always relaxing and pleasurable.
ReplyDeleteHello Tracy. Good idea to light the cook's candle as long as the rest of the household don't object to that! No hedgerows to forage, here, but, I like the idea of planting bulbs for springtime color and taking time for selfcare. :)
DeleteFinding a lovely old 1940s/50s film on TV to watch while I am doing the ironing [Jimmy Stewart, or Robert Donat or John Mils] Sorting out knitting or dressmaking patterns and dream about making something. Meeting a friend for tea and cake...
ReplyDeleteI like your joyful activities, Angela. :)
DeleteThat sounds like fun. My joyful activities this time of year are: picking apples and baking with them, hiking, kayaking, journaling, blogging, singing, dancing and cooking.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. I love your list of joyful activities!
DeleteI like your list of joyful activities. I need to do that, as I also find autumn and winter a little difficult. Shorter daylight hours in particular are hard.
ReplyDeleteOn Friday afternoon I got the latest COVID booster and the flu shot! It's been a bit of a rough weekend feeling very tired and feverish. But I'm glad I got them both, it's done now and I'much better this evening. Fortunately I did not have a "shopping" reaction!
Thank you, Celie; feel free to modify my list to suit you.
DeleteThat was very brave of you to get both shots at once! I took a pneumonia shot and a flu shot together, once, and it was OK, but, I'm planning to do the flu shot and COVID booster separately. Hope you continue to feel better; glad you didn't get the shopping reaction! :D
I think your list is a good one. It's full of fun activities-very achievable activities too so you won't be stressed about doing them.
ReplyDeleteI like Angela's list about movies. I think I will copy her & do something similar.
We have spent the summer doing indoor painting. I can see the finish line I think. We have worked really hard painting & sprucing things up and I'm very pleased but am tired of my days being filled with working on the house.
I said to my husband, "we are taking the fall of". lol. (Fine with him of course since this was all my idea haha)
So I will take the fall off and watch movies and read books ;)
Thank you, Debra; yes, all easy achievable activities.
DeleteYou've had a very busy summer! I like your plan to take Fall off and read and watch movies! :D
