Cloudy on Friday

Rose

It was cloudy and cool, all day, on Friday, with a high of about 70F.

I slept in, then watched some online videos, visited blogs, and played sudoku games.  I had thought of doing some laundry, but, the day was so cloudy and cool that I decided not to.  It's supposed to be sunny and warm again, next week, and I'll do the laundry then.  My biggest accomplishment today was vacuuming the family room (I had done the dusting on Thursday).  I've a little bit more to do and then, the family room would be done until probably around December, when I'll rearrange the furniture to make room for the Christmas tree.

Gardener friend M was here in the evening and he watered the garden for me. He brought me three plants that had been thinned out from another garden he tends to - apparently, it self seeds and M has been instructed to pull out all the volunteer plants to dispose of them. He said they have blue flowers, but, he's not sure of the name of the plant.  If they grow and flower, then, I might be able to identify them.  He and I are taking bets on when the squash vine will reach the first step - I said by next Friday and he said by Wednesday!  LOL.

On Friday, I was grateful for:

- M's help with the garden
- M bringing me new plants for the garden
- Working appliances
- Videos to watch
- Emails from friends

Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

Plans for tomorrow include baking something and finishing up the family room.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for Saturday?

  1. That rose is stunning.
Today I'll be getting the weekly shop and catching up with the housework. Lily has a tennis lesson later, and then I will try and find the time to do some studying.
The problem is you've got me thinking about baking something now ;)

    1. Thank you, Jules. I do like the color of those deep pink roses.
Maybe you can put something to bake and study while it is in the oven! Then, once it's baked, you can take a break from the studying to enjoy a piece of whatever you baked!

  2. Friday I sorted out the grandchildren's toys. Now the youngest is 1½ I shall give away all the babystuff. Some of the very old Fisher Price stuff we were given in 1982when Liz was born has lasted well, but the plastic is beginning to crack. I have binned the dodgy items! The home is much less cluttered.

  3. Your roses are lovely. It's still warm enough here for flowers to keep growing, but it won't last long. This weekend I'll do some cleaning up in the garden.

    1. Thank you, Celie. Right now, the roses are enjoying the cooler temperatures and flowering! M will prune them around January. He always talks about the time when I had almost 100 rose bushes (98 to be exact) and it would take him four weekly visits to prune them all! Currently, I just have a dozen rose bushes (and one of them is all but dead) and it takes him just one visit to prune them all! All the rose bushes died due to drought, mainly, and I didn't replace them.
I hope you have pleasant weather during the weekend to clean up your garden. Then, you get to plan next year's garden! :)

  4. I had a thought when you said the squash vine is growing over the walk. We had a volunteer pumpkin one year that was doing great until it grew over the walk, Then the heat from the concrete in the sun baked it and killed it. Don't know if this would be a problem for you, but something to consider.

    1. Thank you for telling me, June. I didn't even think about the pavers and steps getting too hot! It's not that very hot, right now, but, I'll keep it in mind and probably turn the vine away from the steps if it does get hot. I wouldn't want it to die before the butternut squash matures!

  5. Your rose is gorgeous. I hope you have some blue flowers, I really enjoyed my cornflowers this year grown from a packet of seeds I had been given. They don't come back each year but may self seed so fingers crossed for me and for you too.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Blue flowers are so unusual, aren't they? I had some cornflowers come up from seed, last year, and I hoped they would self seed, but, if they did, they didn't grow well enough to bloom this year. But, my California poppies more than made up for that!

  6. That rose is such a brilliant pink! It will be so interesting to see how those blue flowers turn out. We are having totally blue sky and warmth today, we are getting too used to it day after day without rain. This morning was quite foggy though, until the sun burned it off.

    1. It is a very lovely pink, isn't it? I do hope the blue flowers will grow well. According to M, they are very easy to care for plants.
Sounds like you are having some lovely fall weather! Enjoy it while you can!
The forecast called for rain, but, it didn't rain here, where I am. Although, it might have drizzled a little bit very early in the morning, when I was still sleeping. It was cloudy most of the day, but, there was a little sunshine in the afternoon.

  7. That will be interesting, having a mystery plant to identify. And a blue flowering one at that. It's nice that M brings you free plants.
How are those mums doing from last year?
You are keeping up with your cleaning schedule. Good for you.

    1. I am looking forward to seeing this plant flowering. I've tried to search online for a blue flowering plant with the same type of leaves without much success; it's difficult when I don't know what the flower looks like!
The majority of the mums are doing well! They flowered over the summer, so, they seem to be a bit confused, but, they are growing well! I wonder if I'll receive more rescued mums this year, too?!
I'm trying to keep to the cleaning schedule, Debra. I went off it when I had those hip pains, earlier, and got behind with everything. But, I'm catching up!
