Warm on Saturday

Persimmon Flowers

The persimmon flowers are mostly hidden by the calyx, but, there are two flowers visible in this picture.

Saturday was a lovely, sunny, warm day, with an afternoon high of 78F.  I opened the doors and windows to air out the house and left them open all day!

I had a very relaxed day.  I texted one of my cousins and spoke on the phone with my aunt.  Wrote an email to a friend and called another friend.  I spent the afternoon repairing my quilt and watching videos.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter.

In between, I did do two loads of laundry, but, the machine did all the work!  All I had to do was put the clothes in and hang them up to dry once they were washed!  Not a hardship at all.  There was a time when I washed everything by hand in order to save the money it would take to operate the washing machine; not so much because I wanted to be frugal as because I had to be frugal.  Today, I washed both loads in cold water and that was being frugal and so was hanging everything up to dry.

In the evening, I walked for 20 minutes.  There was a young woman walking her dog, a beautiful German Shepherd and I admired her dog and asked his name; "Goner", she said.  I was tempted to ask her if I could pet Goner, but, I didn't because I didn't have a mask on and I don't want to go close to people without a mask.  There are two other young women too, who walk together past my house almost daily; they are serious walkers who walk at a good pace.  I always step into my garden if I am on the sidewalk when they pass by to give them room!  I wish I could walk at their pace!  Oh, well, at least I'm moving!

Brunch was lahmajoon or Armenian pizza that neighbor S had given me.  Dinner was a bowl of the garbanzo beans I made and two cheese filled puff pastries that S had given.  I had some baklava for dessert.

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- A sunny, warm day
- Washing machines and other working appliances
- Being able to afford operating those appliances
- Phone calls, texts, emails, etc., with friends and family
- Yummy food for my meals

Saturday's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.

Sunday is Mother's Day here, in the US.  I am not planning to do anything special, but I might make myself some waffles for brunch and my daughter has told me I am not allowed to use her Mother's Day gift to me (the vacuum cleaner) tomorrow!  LOL

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?  Do you have any special plans for Mother's Day?

  1. It certainly is hard work washing by hand and it's a blessing to have automatic washing machines that do the hard work for us. I wash most things at 30 degrees and put a capful of antibacterial laundry cleanser into the washing machine drawer.
The young lady would have been pleased you asked about and admired her dog. I love it when anyone tells me how cute Tilly is and I stop and chat to a lot of dog walkers :)

    1. I was a lot younger then, Eileen, and more able! But, yes, an automatic washing machine is a blessing! There are no degree settings on my washer, just cold to hot and a series of settings represented by dots in between; the washer seems to automatically set at somewhere between warm and cold and I have to manually turn it to cold. I don't mind, but, I suppose I should occasionally run it on warm to keep the hoses flexible!
The young lady did smile and seem pleased. :)

  2. I hope you will get some good fruit from the persimmon tree. Your daughter is right to tell you not to use the vacuum cleaner today, so enjoy Mother's Day!
We have been having sunny days and I have some marvellous tulips in bloom now, including some frilly ones, both pink and white. They remind me of bridesmaids. We had temperatures around 80°F but it is cooler and windy today, but still very pleasant as the wind keeps the black flies away. I enjoyed singing in the choir this morning. We were small in number but we did our best. This afternoon DH and I will go for an outing.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Happy Mother's Day to you, too! Glad you enjoyed singing in the choir today and will be going on an outing in the afternoon. Your tulips sound delightful!
I do hope I'll get some persimmons this year. I picked blueberries, this morning, and ate them while I was still out in the garden! :D

  3. I see those little flowers. Does a flower usually represent a fruit with a persimmon?
Your temperature is slowly warming up and I know that makes you happy.
Yes, the machine does do all the work doesn't it? Making our job easy. I am so appreciative of my washing machine and dryer. Washing clothes by hand is not easy that's for sure and it must've been a difficult time for you when you were doing so.

    1. That's what I'm hoping, Debra, that a persimmon flower will eventually mean a fruit! I think not all will be pollinated (they are self pollinated), but, we shall keep our fingers crossed!
Yes! I'm loving the warmer weather! :D
There was a time when we were newly arrived in this country and money was very tight. We did what we could to pinch pennies and managed. :)

  4. I'M IN!!! I just got a dialogue box I had never seen before, and it recognises me! Why now, suddenly? Better late than never...

I checked my local persimmon tree a few weeks ago, after I last commented about yours, and the fact that mine had no leaves yet. By the time I went back, it did have a few tiny leaves forming. I suppose now I should go back and see if there is any blossom.

    1. Yay! You are now in and recognized! I hope that continues!
I have tiny baby persimmons forming! Keeping my fingers crossed that the fruit will continue to develop!
