Voodoo and Done!

Voodoo Lily is Done!

The voodoo lily has done blooming!  This is how it looked, today.  It stayed open only for a couple of days!

Another Look

Ah, but, when one flower closes another two bloom:

More Roses

And they smell sweeter, too!  LOL!

I woke up early today - at 6:00 a.m.!  And couldn't fall asleep, again, even though I tried.  So, I got up and fed Dancer, had a cup of hot water because I was fasting for my blood test, showered, dressed, and said my morning prayers.  All before my wake up alarm went off at 9:00 a.m.!

My blood test appointment was for 10:40 a.m., and I had been told to arrive 15 minutes before that.  I was at the clinic in good time and the waiting room was not crowded.  Most of the people who were waiting had masks on, a few didn't; the female staff at the clinic had masks on, the male staff, including the one who drew my blood, didn't.  I had my mask on as I am not yet ready to go without a mask.  The County Health Department is now reporting cases on a weekly basis, instead of daily, but, there were 2,266 new cases as of last week, with a 7-day testing positivity rate of 3.3%, and 46 deaths (new numbers are posted on Thursdays); even though Covid is no longer considered an emergency, it is still present and people are still getting sick and dying from it.  However, the number of people hospitalized due to Covid have gone down to 250, which is good.

After I came home, I had the last waffle for brunch (just a plain waffle, without any curry or jam, this time) and a glass of chocolate milk.

I had set out the old recycling bin with the broken lid by the curbside late last night, because it had to be out by 6:00 a.m.  But, it was not picked up and replaced until after 11:30 a.m.  I now have a brand new pristine looking recycling bin!

M arrived shortly after that; he watered the garden and we chatted a bit.  I picked more snowpea pods while we chatted.

In the afternoon, I felt sleepy and took a nap on the sofa, until Dancer's meowing woke me up; it was 5:30 p.m. and he was reminding me that it was his tea time!  I fed him and had a cup of tea.  Then, watched news.

Later, I made some leftovers fried rice for dinner: leftover rice, leftover garbanzo beans, leftover curried chicken, shredded, some broccoli side shoots from the garden, and an egg added to the mixture, everything cooked in leftover fat from cooking the last hamburger patty, saved in a container in the fridge.  I call this a frugal meal:

Leftovers Fried Rice

There were macadamia nut chocolates for dessert!

Unfortunately, falling asleep on the sofa in the afternoon meant I didn't get any cleaning done, today.  So, I will carry those tasks over to tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Access to medical care
- Health insurance
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- M helping with the garden
- Leftovers!

Today's joyful activity (or, should it be inactivity?) was taking a nap on the sofa, with the afternoon sun warming me up!

Plans for tomorrow include catching up on the cleaning I didn't do today, in addition to Thursday's tasks of cleaning the kitchen and a load of laundry.  I might put in an order for groceries, too.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. Your roses are lovely, one of my patio rose bushes is blooming but not the other, must be where hey are positioned in the garden. I hope your blood test result is good. We don't have Covid numbers published anymore or if we do I just don't see them. It's rare to see anyone wearing a mask here anymore but I do believe Covid is here to stay. I caught Covid while I was having my three weeks of daily radiotherapy in 2020 and my body is just not the same anymore so I do understand your fear of catching the illness and the need to look after ones self the best way you can.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; the weather is good for roses, right now: sunny, but, not too hot. Roses need sun to bloom; maybe try moving your non-blooming rose bush to where it gets more sun?
Most people don't wear masks, here, either, Eileen, but, I'm being extra careful. My daughter was careful, too, and she still got Covid! I have several pre-existing conditions which put me in the high risk category for complications from Covid, so, I'm trying hard to avoid getting it!

  2. My first thought, when I saw the photograph of the roses, was that I bet they smell far sweeter than the lily :)
I hope your blood results will be okay. Xx

    1. Ha, ha, yes, the roses smell a lot better! :D
Thank you, Jules. I'll find out the blood test results on Monday. :)

  3. I like the look of the closed up voodoo lily, too. Just this week have I seen the mask requirements lifted from most doctor's offices even though the county health department lifted the requirement months ago.

    1. I have yet to check on the lily, today, but, according to what I've read about it, seeds might form on the spadix and the plant might self seed.
Yes, now that the Covid emergency has been declared no longer in effect, the masks are no longer required. I will still continue to wear one, just for my own peace of mind, if nothing else. :)

  4. Sweet roses! I'm surprised that the person drawing blood didn't have a mask. It does make sense for you to wear one, as you say, for your own peace of mind. I hope the blood test results will be favourable.
Your frugal meal sounds very tasty. Yesterday I tried some plain frozen fish, Basa filet or something like that, and sautéed some onion and mushrooms in butter, put them on the fish with a squeeze of lemon juice and some dried parsley and baked in parchment paper. It turned out quite well. It was a change from salmon and not as expensive. I had a nap too, this afternoon.

    1. I guess they are no longer required to wear masks? The county health department put up the new numbers today and they've gone up, a little bit, but, as long as the hospitalization numbers remain below capacity, it's not considered an emergency.
Thank you, Bushlady; I'll find out the test results on Monday.
The frugal meal was quite tasty. Your fish dinner sounds good, too! I haven't had any fish, recently and didn't think to order any when I picked up groceries, today; should buy some the next time I order groceries. Glad you enjoyed a nap! I was tempted to have one, today, too, but decided not to!

  5. How nice to get a new bin. I just had mine replaced, too. While you were sleeping I was cleaning the cottage. I have been doing a lot of brush clearance and tree trimming. The weather is certainly getting warmer.

    1. It's nice to get new bins, isn't it? Not that they stay looking nice for long! Sounds like you've been super busy! I'm enjoying the warmer weather; are you?

  6. Our state does weekly reporting on Thursday as well and we review it every week to stay informed of the infection level in our area. We still wear a mask in crowded indoor areas too but we are among the very few.
Vaccine updates are now available and I need to make our appointments to get the shot.
I was at the doctor's last week and no one had a mask on but me and the doctor.
I hope your blood tests cam back all normal :)

    1. I guess some of us will do what we can to keep ourselves protected, but, it would be so much better if everyone else did too, wouldn't it?
Yes, I need to call and make an appointment for my vaccine update. I'll wait until next week, I think, as I have a couple of other medical appointments coming up and I don't want to have side effects from the vaccine before that.
Most of the blood test results came back normal, thank you; I had another set of blood tests done, this morning, for another upcoming doctor's appointment.
