Rain on Thursday

Roses

We had rain early this morning and the garden got watered, which was a blessing.  It was rather chilly in the morning, with the temperature inside the house being below 60F.  I was all bundled up in multiple layers with a scarf and wool socks, a blanket over me while I said my morning prayers, and still feeling cold.  So, I switched on the main gas heater until the house warmed up and then, turned it off.  I stayed in the living room while the heater was on to get the full benefit of the warmth and Dancer did, too, first being on his rug in front of the heater:

Getting Warm in Front of the Heater

And then, moving up on to the chair with the comfy pillow:

A Good Spot to Nap

In the morning, I called the primary care doctor's office and confirmed my appointment and then, scheduled my lab test for that appointment.  Then, replied to blog comments.  After brunch (the last of the sardines on toast), I walked for 20 minutes.  It was sunny and warm in the sunshine (today's high was 59F).

In the afternoon, I did a load of laundry and spoke on the phone with my half-sister.  Afterwards, I did a little more quilt repairing.  Dancer helped, as usual!  Since I sew on the quilt repairs in the living room, the coffee table was looking cluttered with the pieces of fabric, the pin cushion, the pair of scissors, etc., once I finished sewing for the day.  So I took one of my decorative bowls and decided to use that to contain everything:

Sewing Paraphernalia Contained

The stuff is still sitting out on the coffee table, but, just having everything contained seems to make it visually less cluttered to me.

Later in the evening, I watched news, tidied the table in the family room (haven't cleared it yet - have some stacks of files I'm sorting through), sorted some paperwork (going through really old tax files and decluttered the contents of six file folders - this was a box of old files I brought in from the garage to sort through; have about 4 more files to go through and shred), cooked dinner (rice and vegetable stir fry to go with teriyaki chicken from the freezer), did the dishes, wiped down the stove top and counters, swept and mopped the kitchen floor, cleaned the litter box and swept the bathroom floor.  After which, I was too tired to clean my bedroom!

Called friend R and chatted with her for a bit, too, and, of course, video chatted with my daughter.

Today's decluttering was six years worth of tax papers and instruction booklets, etc.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The morning rain
- Sunshine in the afternoon
- A working heater
- Being able to have my medications delivered by mail
- Phone calls and emails with friends and family

Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for Friday include:

- Dust and vacuum my bedroom
- Clean the bathroom
- Continue to declutter the files
- Tend to the garden with M

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Your roses are beautiful. Dancer looks very at home resting on that lovely chair. You're right about placing all your sewing items in one bowl is much tidier than having all of them loose. Bathroom cleaning is on my agenda for the day too.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I love those red roses. Dancer gets the best seats in the house! :D I like how having everything in a bowl or basket makes it all look more organized! I hope you are having a lovely Friday, Eileen.

  2. Beautiful roses!!!!! Handsome Kitty. I also like to have my crafting tools in one place so I'm not searching all over, makes tidying up easier too. Happy Weekend.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. Having a container definitely makes it easier to tidy up! Hope you, too, have a happy weekend. :)

  3. When our house gets below 68, it feels cold to me. Even then, I have several layers and a blanket unless I'm moving around a lot. I would have been freezing at 60. On the other hand, my sister keeps her house around 55. She lives in a cold place and that's how they can afford their heating oil. They have adjusted.

    1. I used to keep the house much warmer until I was shocked by that $600 gas bill! I've been heating the house to 65F this winter, but, more often than not, I've been using the electric heater to warm up the room I'm in, rather than the gas heater to warm up the entire house. I think I'd find 55F to be very cold.

  4. The roses remind me of the climbing rose by my parents' front door when they were alive. Dancer, like all cats, knows how to seek comfort and warmth, doesn't he? I like your idea of corralling the sewing items in a pretty bowl. You did well with your paperwork decluttering.
We have sunshine today after so much gloom! It is actually quite warm in certain places, like the side step where I stood to hang out some laundry this morning.

    1. Roses by the front door seems very welcoming, doesn't it? Dancer definitely knows the warm and comfy spots in the house! Thank you; just having all the sewing items in a bowl makes the coffee table look less cluttered to me and I am glad I found another use for the bowl (sometimes, I use it to float a short-stemmed flower, or to hold candies, etc.) I am determined to get through the rest of those tax files, today! I might take a short break from sorting through boxes of files from the garage, after that, and concentrate on the files inside the house!
I'm glad you are having a sunny day and some warmer temperatures. It's another May Gray day, here!

  5. Beautiful rose. It was warmer here than there! Id have the heater on as well. I like the idea of putting sewing supplies in a bowl, it makes it very tidy. My cat, though, is too tempted by thread (and string), and she goes after needles in a pin cushion. So I always have to put that away when not in use; and sometimes even hide the needle and thread with my hand while I'm using it!

    1. Yes, we are well below normal for this time of the year! The forecast does say that it will warm up towards the end of next week. Dancer used to chase reels of thread and bite yarn, etc., but, now, he's getting old and not that interested in such things anymore. Maybe a container with a lid might be better for your sewing supplies. :)

  6. Of course Dancer should have the chair with the comfy pillow! He works very hard testing out your quilts :)

    1. He's an old kitty with achy old bones, he says; but, yes, he does work hard at testing out the quilts, doesn't he? :D

  7. You had a burst of energy later in the day on Thursday. Is that usual for you?
I'm more energetic in the morning and other than the dinner dishes don't do any house maintenance items in the evening.
I used to have that same pin cushion but recently donated it as I wasn't using it. I use little dishes too to corral my sewing things when I'm working on something. I hadn't thought of a bowl the size you used but will now lol

    1. Yes; I am usually not very energetic in the mornings, but, become more productive in the afternoons and evenings. On the hottest days of the summer, however, I try to get started on the housework in the mornings, when it is cooler. I think your way is probably better because you can relax in the evenings knowing your housework for the day is already done. Maybe I should try that approach, myself!
The bowl I used is 8 inches across the top.

  8. Gorgeous blooms. And isn't it fun to get rid of old tax documents -- I live to hear them going through the shredder.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. Yes, I'm glad I can get rid of some of the old files I've been keeping "just in case". :)
