Saturday

Front Portion of the Side Yard

The side yard is just 5 feet wide; this is where the feijoa/pineapple guava tree that we pruned way down is growing.  You can see the new growth on it.  This is where we planted the aloe and aeonium plants that were pulled out from the middle of the planting circle in the front garden.  It will become a continuation of the succulents border.

I stayed up all night, Friday night, to watch the coronation as it took place.  I really enjoyed watching it, although I felt sorry for all the people who had to stand out in the rain!  I'm very glad that it all went off so well.

I went to bed at 6:30 a.m. and slept till noon.  Dancer woke me up a couple of times and I got up and gave him his breakfast on one of those times, but, went back to sleep.

Today, I walked for 25 minutes (needed to take a short break after 15 minutes, then, walked for another 10 minutes), gave Dancer his flea prevention medication, sewed on the quilt, and watched videos online.  My next door neighbors were having a party in the evening, but, although there was music, it wasn't overly loud and the party ended fairly early.  I was happy about that!

Brunch had been peanut butter on toast.  Dinner was ramen noodles to which I added shredded cooked chicken and some of the stir fried vegetables:

Followed by a cake I baked:

Bundt Cake

It was just a yellow cake from a boxed mix.  I added some dried, powdered orange zest to the batter, but, I don't think I added enough because I couldn't taste it:

Cake for Dessert

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to watch the coronation
- Being able to walk for 25 minutes
- Time spent sewing
- The neighbors' party was not too loud!
- Working appliances

Today's joyful activity was eating cake!  LOL.

Plans for Sunday include watering some of the newly planted seedlings and plant cuttings.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed watching the Coronation it was an extraordinary occasion and went off well apart from the rain although it didn't rain at all here in North Wales. Your cake looks lovely, I've never made a bundt cake before but then I don't have that shape of cake tin. I'm glad your neighbours party didn't disturb you too much. I will be watching The Coronation Concert on TV this evening.

    1. A coronation is not something one sees all that often, is it? I'm really glad that it all went off so well, without any major incident to mar the occasion.
I like bundt cakes; one is supposed to drizzle a glaze over it, but, I didn't as I don't need the extra sugar and calories!
I was very surprised that the party next door was so low key, but, glad, too. :)
Enjoy the Coronation Concert, Eileen. :)

  2. Is the plan for your side yard to have borders along the edges and a walkway down the middle? I like how you use every space you have to grow something different.

    1. Well, that was the plan, originally. But, it hasn't worked out quite that way. For one thing, there is an iron railing that is fixed in place (you might be able to see it in the photo above, just behind the aloe plant at the back) which prevents access to the back yard from the front, rather than a gate than can be opened. It had been installed like that by the previous owners of the house and I didn't see any need to change it - I think it provides a little more security than a gate. There are tall Euphorbia tirucalli succulents growing along the wall beyond that, all along the side yard (I'll take another photo of the side yard from the back garden). There used to be two other guava trees growing there and oleanders, but, they all died.

  3. I'm glad you enjoyed the Coronation and were able to catch up on sleep, also that the neighbours had a toned down party for a change! Your succulents look healthy. I have a tiny healthy looking one in a pot in the powder room. I never have to water it, because it is plastic!
Out in the yard I am happy with the number of bulbs that are showing, and especially with the 5 small tulips that are in flower. Also I noticed this morning that there are flowers on the Trout Lilies up the road.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I truly enjoyed watching the Coronation and I'm happy that it went off well without any major incident to mar it.
Too funny about your healthy looking plastic succulent! I have a potted arrangement of succulents that are plastic on top of one of the bookcases! It was a Christmas gift from one of my cousins. :)
It sounds like spring has arrived in your part of the world! I'm sure you'll be discovering more and more wildflowers in bloom as the warmer days arrive. :)

  4. I also felt sorry for the crowds waiting in the rain, although I expect they hardly noticed, as it would have been a celebratory atmosphere.
Your bundt cake looks delicious. X

    1. I think I felt more sorry for those who had to be there because they were taking part in the parade or had to provide crowd control and security!
Thank you; I shared some of the cake with my neighbor's daughter and her friend. :)

  5. I thought about you while I was watching the Coronation. Doing the math with the time change and thinking, "Bless probably just stayed up for this and went to bed afterwards" lol
Initially I didn't have much interest in the Coronation and didn't have plans to watch. But since I was up before 5 when the coverage started my time, I turned it on and then I was glad I did because I did enjoy it.
I did some hand sewing and drank tea and had a relaxing morning watching the service.
I like your line of succulent transplants and look forward to seeing it grow.

    1. LOL, you know me too well, Debra! Yes, that's exactly what I did! :D It was interesting to watch the ceremony; I enjoyed it and I'm glad that you enjoyed watching it, too.
One of my blog friends sent me an article that explained the details of the screen that was placed around the king during the anointment - each leaf on that tree is embroidered with the name of a country in the Commonwealth and there was a close up picture showing the leaf with Sri Lanka embroidered on it. She said she thought I'd like to see that and I did!
I hope the succulents will grow and fill in that area, a little bit. :)
