This was the meal plan for Week 4:
Brunches: Bagels with cream cheese✔, burek (Armenian cheese pastries)✔, scrambled egg and toast✔, leftovers from dinners✔
Dinners: Soup (it's turned cold, again!)✔, leftover teriyaki chicken ✔with rice and vegetables, canned beef stew, leftovers/made overs✔
Snacks/Desserts: Fresh fruit✔, leftover Armenian sweets (trying not to eat too many of those!)✔
In addition, I received gifts of food from neighbor S: Rice, fried fish, fries, salad, Armenian bread, more cake, and strawberries, all of which were incorporated into this week's meals.
Here's how it all worked out:
Monday:
Brunch: Bagel with cream cheese
Dinner: Instant soup noodles
Tuesday:
Brunch: ??? Might have been a bagel with cream cheese (can't remember!)
Dinner: Cheese filled puff pastry (burek), blueberries
Wednesday:

Dinner: Teriyaki chicken
Thursday:
Brunch: Scrambled eggs and toast
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables soup, Armenian bread
Friday:
Brunch: S's fried fish and rice
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables soup with Armenian bread; strawberries
Saturday:

Dinner: Chicken soup with Armenian bread; fried fish and rice with salad; strawberries
Sunday:
Brunch: Cheese filled puff pastry, fries, salad
Dinner: Last of the fried fish and rice, fries, salad
Which brings us to this week, which I am going to consider as May Week 5. Here's the plan:
Brunches: Mackerel sandwiches, milkrice and mackerel curry, tuna salad sandwiches, leftovers (my brunches are being determined by a finicky cat who has been turning up his nose at both the cans of tuna and the mackerel I opened to tempt him to eat)
Dinners: Canned beef stew, macaroni & cheese with ham, salad, leftovers/made overs (the canned beef stew and the mac & cheese will give me several servings, each).
Snacks/Desserts: Fresh fruit, crackers with peanut butter or tuna salad, maybe cookies
How about you? Did you make a meal plan, last week? If so, did you follow it? Are you making a meal plan for this week? What's on your meal plan?
Every time you mention a food I am unfamiliar with, I have to look up a recipe for it. I am pretty sure I am going to try burek soon. It sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe ones I had were made with puff pastry dough and they looked a bit like turnovers. They had a cheese filling, but, one time, S gave me some burek that had a cheese and spinach filling and that was delicious, too.
DeleteMeal planning has not happened for 2 weeks - soup and scrambled eggs have been my go-to while my mouth heals. Everything land, nothing spicy or acidic. (my morning glass of orange juice was too stinging and painful) But things are getting better. Last night we shared a "Chinese meal for two" from the supermarket. Today I see the dentist!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Just reading about it made me flinch! I hope you've been having a variety of soups and not just lentil soup now that you are home! Good luck at the dentist's; hope everything will be found to be healing well.
DeleteIt's just as well you like the tuna and mackerel that Dancer is refusing. I hope he is eating his kibble and not completely off his food. Your meal planning did well and you enjoyed extra treats from your neighbour,
ReplyDeleteI have a small grocery delivery arriving later this morning but they have emailed to say quite a few items are out of stock, probably sold out over the Bank Holiday weekend. No matter I have plenty in the freezer.
Yes, it's a good thing I like tuna and mackerel! I've offered him tuna, mackerel, his own salmon pate, some of the chicken soup, and even boiled him a little corn as he usually likes corn; but, he's declined it all! He's eating a few bites of kibble every so often, though, so I think he's OK. Once the test results come in, we'll know what might be the problem. In the meantime, Mama Cat is enjoying a feast!
DeleteOh, I'm sorry to hear that the grocery order you are expecting will be short of several items! It's a good thing you have a well stocked freezer.
I found I had a can of kidney beans which was close to BB date, so I bought some hamburger and green peppers and made chili. The ground chili I bought on bulk seems to be something else, not what the label on the jar said. I think it is paprika. Anyway I used some and threw in some chili flakes and ground cumin. The end result was extremely spicy!! I had one helping and put away 4 containers with 2 portions in each. DH loves spicy food so I don't think he'll complain when he gets back.
ReplyDeleteSpicy chili sounds good to me! My daughter had the opposite experience - she bought a bottle of what was labeled "chili powder" and complained it didn't taste hot - apparently, she had bought a spice blend for American style chili (the type you make with ground beef and beans) and not the red chili pepper powder we use for curries. :D
DeleteTuesday's cheese filled pastry dinner sounds especially nice as far as I'm concerned :)
ReplyDeleteIt was nice! I had another cheese filled pastry as a snack, last night, too. I reheat them in the toaster oven to keep the puff pastry crisp. Microwaving them makes the pastry soft.
