Parting on Sunday

Daughter left to go back to Berkeley, this morning.  Her flight was at 11:30 a.m.  We got up at 8:00 a.m. and daughter did her last minute packing, including the cooked salmon and curry puffs I had frozen for her to take back with her.  Then, I drove her to the airport, dropped her off, and came home.  At first, I thought I'd have to wait until October to see her again.  But, she told me that she has been invited to attend her friend's bridal shower, in August, so she'll be coming down again, next month!  It's easier to say goodbye to her when I know I will be seeing her again in about 3 weeks' time!

After I came home, I vacuumed the family room and my bathroom.  I don't think that vacuuming the rooms, piecemeal, is the best way to do this, but, it's what I am able to do, right now.  I guess something is better than nothing?

I also did two loads of laundry and remade daughter's bed with fresh sheets.   I spent the afternoon and most of the evening reading the book I borrowed from my friend (about the women in the Bible).  I am almost done with the book and will be able to return it to her at the next rosary gathering, next Saturday.

I am going to try to have an early night, tonight, because I have to get up fairly early tomorrow morning, too, because my doctor's appointment is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe flight back to Berkeley (well, she flies in to the Oakland airport and then, takes the subway to Berkeley and walks the mile or so from the subway station to her apartment as she claims it's faster than waiting for the bus).
- I will be seeing her, again, next month
- Working appliances
- Safe drives to the airport and back
- Pleasant weather

Sunday's To Do List:
- Take daughter to the airport - DONE
- Vacuum the family room - DONE
- Laundry - DONE
- Weekly phone call with neighbor T - DONE

Monday's To Do List:
- Doctor's appointment (at 9:00 a.m.)
- Go to the AAA re. car insurance renewal
- Change my bed sheets
- Load of laundry
- Clean out the fridge
- Take the trash cans to the curb
- Vacuum the house
- Water the garden, front and back

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. It is so much easier to tell our kids goodbye when we know they will be returning fairly soon. I have no idea when my sons and families will be back here, but I will be in Portland in August so I will see that family then. Maybe we can make an early fall trip to New York and see the other. Meanwhile I am incredibly thankful Son2 and DIL2 live in the same city as we do.

    1. That it is, Anne. I'm glad your Son2 lives close by and you will be seeing Son1 and family in August. I'm sure your granddaughter will be happy to see you in person, again. :)

  2. Fingers are crossed for a good result from your doctor's appointment.

How lovely that your daughter will be back with you in less than a month ... the days will fly by until you're waiting at the airport for her.

I tend to think of my housework in terms of the different chores instead of by room, so when I dust I do the entire house, or when I hoover it's all of downstairs or all of upstairs.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I have to do some blood tests, and I have a referral for a gynecological exam (need to call and make that appointment, next!)

Yes, looking forward to seeing my daughter, again. :)

I try to vacuum the whole house in one go (it's only one story), but, sometimes, I am unable to do the whole thing. Same with the dusting. Right now, each day's cleaning takes 30-45 minutes, depending what I do. That seems to be all what I can manage.

  3. It’s nice you get to see daughter soon again. 😊

Today I have to call a doctor’s office and see if they accept new patients. My doctor is moving out of state.
My AAA car insurance renews automatically unless I cancel. I have to renew my AAA roadside assistance too. I have the least expensive plan and am wondering if I should get the next level, with 100 mile tow. Recently my car battery died, and fortunately I had jumper cables with me.

    1. Yes, I'm glad I'll be seeing her, again, so soon. I'll be seeing her, almost every month, from now until the end of the year! :)

Hope you find a good doctor, Nil. This was my first time going to this doctor and she seems good. She didn't nag me too much about being overweight! :D

I upgraded to the 100 mile tow, a few years ago. It comes in handy, if you drive longer distances (the lowest coverage was the nearest service garage within 7 miles, or something like that, if I remember correctly.)

    2. Nil, I recommend the AAA upgrade if you can afford it. The limited towing left us at a garage far from home in a bad neighborhood with razor wire fences. Not a fun experience. We upgraded and next time got our car towed to the garage we wanted. It was worth the money to us.

  4. Of course something is better than nothing. What the saying? Progress not perfection. Can you tell that this is something I have to tell myself sometimes?

    1. Yes, you are right. It is the perfectionist in me that wants all or nothing! Then, I can't do much, because cleaning the entire area would take a longer block of time and I don't have that much time (or the energy it would require).

  5. Your daughter certainly gets about! Mine is the same at the moment but she'll be more settled once the move takes place. Salmon and curry puffs sound delicious - is the 'puff' pastry?

    1. Yes, daughter is in Berkeley, because that's where her job is, but, most of her family and friends are here, in Los Angeles. So, she has to come down for various events. :)

    2. Oops, sorry, forgot to add, yes, the "puff" is the puff pastry. Sometimes, I use bread dough and it becomes meat or fish filled buns.

  6. Hi Bless, That's exciting that your daughter will be back to visit in three weeks! I need to pay my car insurance, replace my bicycle, and go to the credit union.

  7. It's great that you will have another visit from your daughter in August, and you will get to hear all about the bridal shower!

I've been counting Monarch caterpillars and I found at least 45 in our yard. This evening I wandered over to my neighbour's front entrance where there are several milkweed plants by the road. I found another 25 caterpillars and I didn't even finish counting because the mosquitoes had zoomed in on me. I've seen a lot of Monarch butterflies around this year and I am hoping that most of these caterpillars will survive to pupate and emerge as butterflies. There are still many eggs on the plants, too!

Also, DH and I spotted some ripe blueberries in our yard so I picked a whole lot of them!

    1. Apparently, I'll be seeing my daughter every month for the rest of the year! :)

Sounds like between you and your neighbor, you have a bit of a monarch butterfly nursery going on! How lovely!

Plus, fresh blueberries from your yard! Yum!
