Productive Thursday

Today, we had a light drizzle in the morning.  Other areas received more rain, according to the news, but, what we received barely even moistened the ground!  However, it was a little cooler, today, and more humid, as well.

I received even more good news from the new doctor's office, today!  My lab test results came back and most of the results were good!  My A1c blood sugar level was good, below even the "pre-diabetes" level!  Apparently, I am doing well with controlling the diabetes through diet; I've been off medications for it since last October.  She said some of the results showed that I might be dehydrated, so I am to drink more water!  And, of course, I need to lose weight!

Today, I vacuumed the house, changed the dust sheets on the sofas in the family room and my bed sheets, did two loads of laundry, ran the dishwasher, and washed some other dishes by hand.  Then, I went to the pet supplies store for more kitty litter and flea spray, for both indoors and out.  Later, I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed inside the house!

Yesterday, I found out from where the fleas were coming into the house!  There is a crack on the floor where the "new" bathroom (the "new" addition of family room, bathroom, and laundry closet is now about 20 years old!) joins the rest of the house.  The caulking has chipped off, leaving a tiny gap.  Well, apparently the fleas are coming up from under the house through that gap!  I need to caulk it, but, in the meantime, I duct taped it!  Then, I noticed that they were coming through the wall socket closest to that crack and duct taped around the socket, too!

Tomorrow, I will ask M to spray the garden.  I will also need to hire a professional exterminator to come out and spray under the house.

On the way home from buying the kitty litter and flea spray, I stopped at one of the Armenian grocery stores to see if they had my favorite loaf bread, but they didn't.  They were stocking up the shelves with a different type of bread (a flatter, elongated, oval shaped bread), but I didn't buy that or any other item.

I had what I call "breakfast fried rice" (leftover rice fried with crumbled bacon, scrambled eggs, a little dried Maldive fish chips, chili powder, curry leaves, and other spices) for brunch, today. Later in the afternoon, I had a little pistachio ice cream for a treat!   An early dinner of frozen lasagna, followed by a fresh mango and some crackers for a snack, later.

Today I am grateful for:
- Good lab test results
- Flea sprays
- Duct tape
- The light drizzle we received
- Working appliances!

Friday's To Do List:
- Buy more vacuum cleaner bags
- Vacuum
- Mop the kitchen
- Water the garden
- Have M spray the garden
- Other things as needed

How was your Thursday?  What have you planned for Friday?

  2. That's fantastic news about the lab test results, especially the blood sugar level. We won't mention the need to lose weight!

Good luck with eradicating the flea problem and sorting out the necessary repairs to stop them getting into the house. Is Dancer an indoors cat or does he venture out into the garden?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Too many treats when daughter came to visit! :D

Dancer is an indoor cat, although, he's been known to try to step outside if I leave the back sliding glass door open a bit too long!

  3. Good job on the diet and the A1c. Diet is really hard to control because many of the things that are not good for us taste so good.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Yes, it doesn't help when every single tooth I have seems to be a sweet tooth!

  4. Good old duct tape. At least you know where the fleas are coming from now and hopefully you will be able to get on top of the problem.
You must be thrilled with your latest test results. X

    1. I wonder what we did before the invention of duct tape? I am very hopeful; I haven't noticed any new fleas coming from those two particular spaces, but, of course, they might find another opening somewhere else! But, I shall keep up with the vacuuming, spraying, and laundering as much as I can.

    1. Thank you, Anne.

Yes, it's all out war when it comes to fleas! The first precept we undertake to observe as Buddhists is to refrain from killing, but, that precept has been shelved until the fleas are gone! :o

  6. Hi Bless, I'm glad you found the source of the fleas. It's good that you are having a professional exterminator help. I am grocery shopping today, probably by bicycle and bus.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Yes, I think some regular spraying of the yard would help. As it is, I am afraid to go out into the garden, in case I get anything on me!

I admire you for grocery shopping by bus and bicycle; it's frugal, environmentally conscious, and good exercise, as well! There was a time when I took the bus to grocery shop, but, not any more. I've been mugged, twice, while returning home after grocery shopping by bus (first time while boarding the bus, the second time while in the bus). My mother was mugged, once, while waiting for the bus! These days, I prefer to drive to the stores!

  7. What an upbeat day, with good lab results and finding where those wretched fleas were marching into the house, so that you could stop them. I'm not a Buddhist, but I do dislike killing anything, but sometimes it is a matter of self defense! I've wasted time putting spiders of all sizes and little beetles outside rather than squish them, but mosquitoes get no mercy.

I had a surprise today when putting up the umbrella over the table on the deck. There was a little bat inside! I put the umbrella down a little and when it is dusk, I will open it fully so he can go out and attack those mosquitoes!

    1. Yes, mosquitoes are just as bad as fleas!

Oh, I bet you were surprised to find a bat in your patio umbrella! :D
