Errands and Groceries on Tuesday

"We like a pillow for our head, even if it isn't soft"
Dancer, using the base of the stand fan for a pillow

Today has been another cooler day.  I didn't see any unwelcome critters about, either, which made me very happy.

I called the gynecologist's office and made an appointment, scheduled for next week.  Then, I went to the DMV counter at the Auto Club and renewed my car registration.  On the way home, I did some grocery shopping.  I was out of some items and I wanted to stock up on other items, so I bought two bags of cat food, 24 cans of tuna (on sale for $.59@), 2 cans of pineapple chunks in juice (@$.99), a jar of mayonnaise (well, Miracle Whip as that's what I prefer, $3.49), a box of pancake mix ($1.99), a container of pancake syrup ($2.89), a loaf of bread ($1.99), and a jar of peanut butter ($1.99).  I had been waiting for peanut butter to go on sale for $.99, and it hadn't gone on sale for that price, so I finally gave in and bought a jar at full price, because I've been out of peanut butter.  When I came home, next week's grocery ads were in the mail box and, guess what?  Store brand peanut butter will be on sale for $.99!  Oh, no!  I've half a mind to go back, tomorrow, to return what I bought, today, and get another jar at the sale price!

Breakfast had been cereal.  When I came back from grocery shopping, I made myself a tuna salad sandwich for lunch (I had been out of Miracle Whip, so couldn't make any tuna or egg salads).  Dinner was leftovers from the fridge.

I changed bed sheets and did laundry in the evening.  I decided to wait one more day to vacuum.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Medical insurance
- The Auto Club having a DMV counter
- Another cooler day
- Safe driving while I did errands
- Being able to video chat with my daughter

  1. Haha Dancer is funny.😊
$0.99 is a good price for peanut butter. If you return the already bought one, buy two jars and then you won’t have to go without it until the next sale.

    1. That is just what I plan to do, Nil! In fact, I'd like to stock up on peanut butter, as I am trying to build up my earthquake supplies (it's an easy food to eat if one can't cook, etc.)

  3. Isn't that just typical, that the peanut butter is reduced as soon as you pay the more expensive price!

Good news about the cooler temperatures and especially the absence of unwanted visitors.

    1. Yes, but, my fault for not waiting a little longer, I suppose, but then, if I had waited and it hadn't gone on sale, I'd be saying, I should have just bought it when I was at the store! You win some, you lose some.

Yes, I'm so glad we are having a few cooler days, before it heats up again, over the weekend. I am hoping that the unwanted visitors won't come back when it gets hot! I'll have to watch out for them!

  4. I prefer the tangier taste of Miracle Whip, also, and I hope your critterless days continue.

    1. Oh, good, a fellow MC liker! :D

I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I'd like to be doing something else other than spray, vacuum, and laundry! I'd like to work on my quilts, for example, but I've been afraid to bring them out, in case something gets on them!

  5. With your grocery budget you try to stick to a dollar difference in price is substantial. I would return it whenever I was near the store but I would snag the 99 cent jar even if it meant buying it before returning the other.

    1. Yes, a dollar makes a big difference when you try to keep to a lower budget. Although I went well over budget, this month! The lower priced peanut butter is at the same store, on the same store brand that I bought. So, it will be convenient to return the overpriced jar; I'll probably buy two new ones, instead, to add to my pantry for earthquake supplies.

    1. That's kind of what I was thinking, too, Akasha - the no bake kind! Or, even a peanut butter sandwich! :)

  7. That so often happens to me - I just do a big shop and get home to find a good discount voucher. The date will have run out before I need another big shop! Howvever, on Monday I got an emailed 15% voucher if I had shopping delivered on Tuesday. Just timed right!

    1. That was very good timing on that voucher! I'm glad you were able to take advantage of that! :)

  8. I think it's a good idea to buy another jar of peanut butter for your stockpile. You get such good deals, and you are so disciplined with your budget.

    1. That's just what I did, today! I took the jar back, with the receipt, and exchanged it for two jars of peanut butter! Then, I bought two additional jars, as well, for the stockpile! Two chunky and two creamy! I am now well stocked for at least 6 months (probably longer; I don't eat that much p.b.!) By the way, it's Food 4 Less that is having the $.99 sale, this week, on the Kroger brand.

  9. Shopping can be frustrating! My local store used to sell 2 litres of Iced Tea for $1.99, now it is 2 for $4, or $2.49 for 1 bottle! So I didn't buy any yesterday (too heavy to carry 2) and I went in today to buy 2 as I had parked near enough to bring them to the car, and they had completely run out! I think it is time I started making my own.

    1. Oh, no! How frustrating! Yes, making your own might be the way to go, although premade can be convenient, too.
