Monday

The Dictionary Wars by Peter Martin

Monday was a much cooler day, but, I really didn't feel like doing most of the things on my to do list, so, I gave myself permission to take it easy and read.  I finished reading "The End of Ice" by Dahr Jamail and started on "The Dictionary Wars" by Peter Martin.

In addition to reading, I did some laundry (washed three quilts), flea combed Dancer at least three different times, renewed some of my library books, took the trash cans to the curb for trash pick up in the morning, watered the garden both front and back, did a little bit of weeding, and visited neighbor S, across the street. Later in the evening, I video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The cooler temperatures
- Visiting with neighbor S
- Water for the garden and for all the laundry
- Being able to renew my library books, online
- Books to read

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Renew car registration
- Call gynocologist's office for an appointment
- Change bed sheets
- Laundry
- Dust
- Vacuum
- Water the indoor plants

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. We have cooler temperatures today but also heavy rain and a warning for thunderstorms. I'd planned to stay indoors anyway and finish off bits of admin.

Taking it easy and reading sounds like a perfect sort of day!

    1. You are busy! I'm glad it's cooler for you, even with the heavy rains.

Taking it easy and reading is lovely, except, now, I have a big long to do list!

  2. Your book about the dictionary reminds me of another book I read, "The Professor and the Madman." It's about the Oxford English Dictionary and the contributions a mentally ill man made. An interesting book that gives a lot of insight in how a dictionary is compiled.

    1. I haven't read that book, but I read something about it, a review, I think. Might be something to read, later on. My mother's paternal grandfather is supposed to have contributed to the editing of a Sinhalese-English dictionary that was printed in Sri Lanka, back when it was still a Ceylon and a British Crown Colony. A two-volume set, one being English-Sinhalese and the other Sinhalese-English; my step-father's sister gifted me the set that her mother had gifted to her.

  3. Your new book "The Dictionary Wars' sounds interesting.
After reading two fictions last week, I downloaded two crafts books. :)

My internet router stopped working, so yesterday I found another one at a thrift store for $5 and set it up.
Today I plan to prepare new syllabi at least for two courses.

    1. I am finding it very interesting. I'm still in the first part, which focuses on Noah Webster and his efforts. What are the crafts books you downloaded?

That's great that you were able to find another router and was able to set it up. I'm afraid I leave all computer-related tasks to my daughter! I tell her that she's my tech-support!
      :D

Ah, new syllabi and lesson plans! Must be getting close to when classes begin! When do you start?

    2. The two books are Kata Golda’s Hand Stitched Felt, and Paying with Books by Jason Thompson.
Hehee it’s good you have a trustworthy tech support person. 😁
Classes start on 19, but I have to go back to work on 15.

  4. Hi Bless, Monday was nice. I watered the garden today. I just washed the sheets, dried them in the sunshine, and put them back on the bed.

  5. You managed to get quite a few useful things done as well as reading. We have to give ourselves credit for what we do, rather than think about what else we wanted to do.

I got the bed changed and the bedding on the line, but before lunch I was feeling tired, the kind of tired that a friend of mine describes: "I feel I could just lie down on the floor"! I did lie down, on the couch, and after 15 or 20 minutes I was feeling better. I drove into town after lunch and ran errands.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I do try to focus on what I did accomplish, but, the items I didn't accomplish tend to loom large in the background!

I'm glad you took a rest and felt well enough to run errands afterwards. Take care. :)

  6. Compared to my Monday you were a virtual whirling dervish of activity. I did nothing on my to do list Monday. I had a totally self indulgent day and watched the entire season of Orange Is the New Black. My only accomplishments were taking a shower in the morning and making tacos for dinner.

    1. Yay, you had an "Anne" day, on Monday! Good for you! Such days can be very relaxing and tacos for dinner sound wonderful!
