Monday

Bonsai - clearly showing the wire used to form the branches in the desired shapes

Today was a slightly cooler day.   A high of 88F instead of 97F.

In the morning, while it was still relatively cool, I changed my bed sheets, did a load of laundry, and dusted the living room and dining room.  I was telling my daughter about my weekly cleaning schedule and how it was (or was not) working for me (I find the Monday cleaning to go well, but, tend to slack off towards the end of the week).  My daughter suggested that I tried a rotating weekly schedule - rather than dust the living room every Monday, do it on Monday of this week, Tuesday of next week, Wednesday of the following week, and so forth!  I am not sure how well that will work out, either, but, it might be something to try?

I also called neighbor T to check on her, since I couldn't chat with her, yesterday.

Stone Lantern at the Japanese Garden

In the afternoon, I drove my daughter to Anaheim (near Disneyland) to the hotel where she will be staying during the conference she is attending.  She didn't have a specific time she needed to be at the hotel, but check-in time at the hotel was 4:00 p.m. and she wanted to get there a little after that.  We left the house at 3:00 p.m.  It was around 45 miles from where I live to the hotel and I anticipated the drive to take a little over one hour.  Well, the freeway was bumper to bumper and it took me 2 hours to get to her hotel!  I pulled up at the entrance at 5:00 p.m.!  I went into the hotel with her for 5 minutes as I needed to use the bathroom before I drove back.  Then, I got back on the freeway and drove home - the return journey took 1 1/2 hours, which was more like what I expected it to be.

I had planned to put gas to the car on my way home, but, when I pulled into the gas station near my house, it was quite busy and several pumps were out of order.  I was too tired to wait, so I decided to put gas tomorrow morning, instead.  I came home, had a late lunch/early dinner, drank a cup of tea, took the trash cans to the curb for pick up in the morning, and watered the back garden.

Friend R called to thank me again for her birthday outing and lunch, saying she really enjoyed the whole experience and loved the garden.  I'm glad she enjoyed it.  Friend F called to say that she was hosting this month's prayer gathering on the 27th.  I also chatted with cousin P.

    1. They are, aren't they? They are supposed to resemble how a fully grown tree would look like, but, on a miniature scale.

Is it still very hot where you are or has things cooled down a bit?

  2. When your daughter said rotate the schedule, I thought she meant dust a different room every Monday so that rooms get dusted regularly even if not every week. Or maybe that's what her suggestion would result in anyway. Whatever, I think you're doing great.

    1. Yes, that's both what she said and what would result from rotating the schedule. This week, I'd do the weekly cleaning according to the schedule I wrote out (dust living room/dining room on Monday; dust family room and my bedroom on Tuesday; vacuum the house and clean the bathrooms on Wednesday; clean the kitchen on Thursday; one deep cleaning task on Friday, etc.). Then, next week, I'd dust the living room and dining room on Tuesday, do the family room and my bedroom on Wednesday, and so forth. After 5 weeks, I'll be back to doing the living room on a Monday. She had a rotating schedule like that when she was in middle school and liked it. It's something to think about - maybe I'll try it out and see how it works out. :)

  3. I'm probably being a bit dim, but I don't see the benefit of rotation to do a different room every Monday and so on. If you are getting the house cleaned regularly with your current schedule, why change? Have I missed something obvious?

    1. No, you are not being dim, Eileen. It's just that, I find I am more motivated to clean on Mondays - at least, I get through the living room and dining area, without any problems. But, by Wednesday or Thursday, I am not that motivated to clean. I feel that those areas, scheduled for later in the week might not get the level of cleaning they should get. My daughter thought that, if I rotated the rooms I did on a Monday, I might clean them more thoroughly and feel better about it.

Maybe, I should just reverse the order of the rooms, one week, perhaps the last week in the month, and see how that works out for me! That might be better than rotating the rooms and getting confused about which room I am supposed to be cleaning on a particular given day! :)

  4. Oh my goodness - these are high temperatures! I cannot imagine I'd even function! We did have the odd day at 87f last year, and it was hot for a sustained period, but not as hot as that! Traffic is heavy in the cities and on the motorways here too. Sometimes worse than others. I don't have a cleaning routine. Husband does basics like vacuuming and polishing (some) surfaces when I'm at work, but all the non-weekly stuff like washing down paintwork and cleaning out cupboards is my 'pleasure' (I don't think!!!)

    1. I am OK as long as the temperatures are in the 90s. But, when we get to 100+, then, I start to whimper! :D

Right now, all I am doing are the basics, when it comes to cleaning! Dusting, vacuuming, mopping the kitchen floor, etc. I do some deep cleaning as and when I feel like it, but, for the most part, I am trying to keep things maintained. I like a clean and tidy house, but, housework is not my favorite thing to do! :)

    1. No problem. :) By the way, did you find someone to replace S?

    2. Yes. S has left the cleaning company and her replacement, A, will be here tomorrow.
